What a season.
Atleast this team never called it quits, Girardi deserves credit for that.
I really thought Beltran was going to be a strong bat for us when we signed him, I'm just really disappointed at him in particular. I know he's old but damn.
But it probably had an impact on Beltran's bad season. Sucks.
1-0
Hitting and IF defense will be the issue.
We'll be in the hunt for next season. I hope we can still afford McCarthy lol.
2-0 and Big Mike continues to look solid.
I'm a bit concerned about Pineda's velocity tonight. Seemed to be only hitting 91 last inning. Was he faster early in the game?
4-0
Thanks, RP. I hadn't followed his velocity since he's come back, just the results, which have been damned impressive.
Really exciting to see how solid he has been.
thank you and good night.
yeah, i'd say he has shown enough to get excited for next season.
thank you and good night.
If Pineda was healthy all year the Yanks would be in one of the wild card positions, even with the crappy offense
agree with sincty - pitching was not the problem this year, production from the 4-5-6 slots was the problem.
Quote:
pitching wasn't an issue much this year. More often then not this team would be lucky to score two runs in a game. They were at the bottom for most of the year in runs scored in the American league. That is pathetic and I am really surprised this team even has a winning record. Brian Cashman has his work cut out for him this off season. The middle of this order needs to be fixed in the worst way.

Production from 2-6 was a problem. Ellsbury and Jeter were not nearly good enough as 2-3 hitters
That said, Ellsbury leading off with Jeter in the 8-9 hole would with correspondingly worthy players hitting 2-3 would have helped tremendously.

The problem, contra Jon Heyman, is that until August it wasn't obvious that we had a better #2 hitter than Jeter, at least according to the conventional wisdom that #2 should be a top OBP guy who doesn't clog the basepaths. Jeter was probably 3rd best on the team at getting on base heading into his horrendous August. That is sad in its own right, but until Jeter slumped and Prado came along it wasn't the big deal people made it out to be. And by the time Jeter was headlong into that skid they were as much about selling tickets as about anything else because our playoff chances were pretty miniscule.
