watched the Steve Bisciotti presser yesterday and then the OTL reaction on ESPN which had one of the writers of the story interviewed.
After watching both, I believe the story. I think it is a fairly typical corporate tactic to attack the messenger as opposed to dealing with the facts of the story which is that the Ravens and the NFL messed up big time. While I thought Bisciotti was forthcoming for the most part I also thought he engaged in an ass covering exercise by saying this all came from Rice's lawyers, agents and friends.
As the ESPN writer mentioned, many of the sources came from within the Ravens organization. To hear Bisciotti say he didn't think anyone would lose their job over this made me laugh.
I do agree with Bisciotti that their integrity and honesty was attacked but I also think rightly so. I personally believe there is little doubt the Ravens tried to get the least possible suspension for Rice and his excuse as to why he did not ask for the video inside the elevator just doesn't wash with me. Bisciotti said he was never given the information that Darren Saunders got from the cop about the video. To me, if he didn't, he should have and that alone should be enough to cost someone their job.
I also think your corporate sponsor/sheep argument is flawed (corporate sponsors behave the way they do because they don't want people boycotting their products), but I'm not going to be around much longer tonight to argue it out with you, to be honest.
But the fact that Ray Rice now has the reputation as the worst person and most reprehensible human to ever play in the NFL is ridiculous to me. As if this league hasn't had complete scumbags play in it before.
I don't think Rice is inherently a bad person. I do think what he did is heinous and a complete travesty. I don't think he is evil, or a monster, and consider these to be hyperbolic reactions that are emotionally tied to tertiary issues surrounding this story.
Also, I'm incredibly tired and sick of this story. Sports radio cutting away to cover the press conference, asking Flacco about "how difficult the week was" in the postgame show recently (to which he laughed it off "I'm a football player man, I don't care about that stuff" in a pretty earnest way)... I know that sports is inherently drama, but this is soap opera shit at this point.
I don't mind it bringing the issue of domestic violence into public discourse on news channels or society at large, and understand sports media's coverage of this story at certain points (outset, suspension, evidence goes public) but holy shit, please fucking stop now.
You realize you're talking to a "troll" your words.
My point exactly, you talk before you know if you are even qualified to comment. Find that Sandy site man, do some good. Then tomorrow, go look up Ray Rice and see how much good he did for countless people.
Doesn't excuse what he did but I was taught long ago, never get involved with other people's family matters, you don't live with them every day, you have no concept...
Have a good night man.
Dune, it has occurred to you that you're being ignored, right?
Excuse me for going off topic but
If you have named yourself after a band you admire, then claimed I was a racist, then announced you were a minority, let me point out that Sonic Youth could not be more white than any other band, well maybe Bread (David Gates?), they lack soul, rhythm, blues, folk or anything else that constitutes good music. They were a bunch of nerds mad at their parents and found a bunch of nerds mad at their parents to follow them. Velvet Underground wannabes that could never comprehend Lou Reed.
If however you named yourself after such a band to show folly, I apologize for not recognizing your depth...
