Vs the Cowboys - Oct. 18, 1999

njguy : 9/23/2014 11:29 am
After reading a recap of this game here on BBI, I'm interested in reading the full play by play of this game if one even exists online. I've been searching for 2 hours now, but me and online don't get along very well. If anyone knows where I might find it, please share the link to it.
Thanks!
I went to that game

Giants won by 3 if memory serves. Tiki had a big PR I believe. Tiki started showing serious chops as that season progressed. He caught a lot of passes out of the backfield and just looked more explosive and decisive with the football. He was ok his rookie year but I think got hurt late. Struggled a bit, maybe hurt again in year 2 but in year 3, 1999, he started to take off.

we held dallas to 24 yards rushing. Kent Graham was efficient 15-21 didn't throw any picks. Aikman did throw a pick. Tiki had 5 catches for 73 yards. Toomer 5 for 44. Ike 2 nice grabs..

Robert HArris, Strahan and Widmer had sacks.

The main significance of that game was that the last play wrecked Brad Daluiso's career.

I know they have box scores. Not sure about play by play.
that's right

we kicked the ball to Deion at the end despite their being no need to kick to Deion there. Didn't he take it to the house but a penalty nullified the return? Those Fassel teams were just maddening...
that was the game we almost lost
Gordo : 9/23/2014 11:46 am : link
when Deion returned a punt to the house that blew out Daluiso's leg, i think it got called back. also i noticed that Dallas had a receiver by the name of Jason Tucker,
i wonder if that was the reason Aikman always screwed up Justin Tuck's name... good times

I think they kicked the ball to someone else, but they got the ball to Deion by a forward lateral, so it was called back.

well looking at the play by play it looks like it was Deion who did the lateral.

the play by play is available at the link to profootball reference provided above - have to scroll down all the way to see the play by play.
The pro-football-reference box score includes play-by-play.

The kickoff return on the last play was nullified because of an illegal forward pass. The call was correct, but it was really close. The Giants got lucky there - except that Daluiso, who had developed from a kickoff specialist into a very good PK, blew out his knee chasing Sanders on a play that was already coming back anyway. He came back the next year, but never regained his ability to drive the ball.
Pro Football reference has play-by-play 1998.

I was there that day too but my memory is foggy these days. The plays I'm most interested in is the series that led up to the Daluiso game winning FG. Weren't we damn near the goal line at 3rd down and what happened that we got pushed back that Daluiso had to kick a 21 yarder?
I see it now thanks

I followed the link and saw the play by play. Mind isn't too bad I guess. I did remember that we were down at the goal line correctly. Don't get old...it sucks!

Thank you BBI Corner Forum gurus!
njguy: I think Graham was just trying to line up the field goal.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/23/2014 12:17 pm : link
The dumb part was calling timeout with five seconds left. They should have run the clock down to about :02, to leave no time after the field goal. The idea, of course, is ro leave time to try again after a bad snap, but at that point, the Giants were out of timeouts. So a bad snap would have run out the clock anyway. Worst clock management I've ever seen, foreshadowing the 2003 loss to Dallas that began Fassel's downfall. Losing Daluiso was icing on the stupidity cake.

Parcells worst clock moment
ray in arlington : 9/23/2014 12:26 pm : link
was against the cardinals in '86. Instead of punting on 4th down, he had simms throw a long incomplete pass to try to run out the clock, but the play didn't use up all the rest of the time. The Cardinals got a shot at the end zone and almost got a tying touchdown.

Ray - remember that game, was in St Louis. A frustrated Simms was interviewed after the game, and said something paraphrasing "We can't even run the clock out right."

I think the play was around their own 40 yard line......
