Eli at 70.1% completion rate for last two games -

Del Shofner : 9/23/2014 11:55 am
"The Giants’ new quarterback coach, Danny Langsdorf, said during training camp that the team wanted Eli Manning to complete 70 percent of his passes in the regular season. It is an understatement to say that Langsdorf’s comment produced something of an uproar. Nationwide, the remark elicited mostly guffaws. ...

"For the season, Manning, in his 11th year, has completed exactly 65 percent of his passes (65 of 100). In his last two games, his completion rate is 70.1 percent."
interesting ... - ( New Window )
It's early, but I never doubted that Eli could thrive
Section331 : 9/23/2014 12:05 pm : link
in this kind of offense. In KG's offense, which depended on deep passes, Eli was never going to have a high % (just to be clear, not a knock on KG at all).
So he can't even hit 70.0%?
GiantFilthy : 9/23/2014 12:06 pm : link
And this is his 10th year in the league?

Nassib.
He still sucks.....

says the BBI Eli Haters Club.

I think Eli has played really well the last two games. The OL has shown improvements and hopefully they'll continue to jell.

Also hoping that ODB gets healthy and stays healthy. He will have a big impact on this O if he ever sees the field.

His 65% completion rate is currently
ZogZerg : 9/23/2014 12:14 pm : link
the highest of his career.
It will be interesting to see if he can keep it up once defenses get enough film on what the Giants do.
I must admit
NYG07 : 9/23/2014 12:17 pm : link
I was down on Eli after preseason and the Lions game. I grew tired of trying to defend him to others. He has really played great the last couple of games. I think this offense will completely rejuvinate his career. It is very refreshing to see the crossing underneath routes and wide open receivers compared to Eli having to constantly throw into tight windows in Gilbrides offense.
Lot of QB's have good completion %'s

it appears Eli is rapidly gaining more confidence in this offense. His persona at the line of scrimmage vs Houston seemed very different than in the first two games. Hopefully it can continue.

I think having RBs that can catch the ball out of the backfield with regularity and success (as Roger Craig did for years in Walsh's WCO) will be among the keys to the Giants overall success this year.

He is throwing the ball much better this year
HomerJones45 : 9/23/2014 12:21 pm : link
it looks like his motion or grip has been changed.

I hope some of you crying about the o-line watched the game last night. Both of those qb's took a lot of hits last night.
65% would have been 7th in the league last year.
BrettNYG10 : 9/23/2014 12:27 pm : link
Is 14th now. I assume most QBs have a higher completion % in the first half of the season?

Qbs can take hits from game to game, but when it continues over seasons it takes it toll.

Would love to see him keep it up...and then all those back-slapping clowns on ESPN or whatever can go get fucked

No Chris is right actually. One of the lamest ongoing types of posts on this board are the utterly hackneyed "-BBI" posts where someone will act as if there is some consensus on a given topic because he read it a handful of times. Or in some cases, like in this one, they'll straight up fabricate the existence of a position, knock the strawman down with a "but BBI told me", then bask in an illegitimate "see I was right all along" display.

Completely predictable.

Chris R....while I joke in jest, it's obvious that you don't read BBI enough. People, not all obviously, hammer Eli on this website unmercifully. He take more shots than a freak'n piñata at a 10 year olds birthday party.
there has been plenty of it to go around

but the faux signing of threads

is as funny as the other ones that get posted. i chuckle at them all the time. its all for fun gang, lets not micro-analyze our source of enjoyment here. we dont want our worlds colliding now do we?

If it weren't for the magical catches by the TE
mamamia : 9/23/2014 1:38 pm : link
Eli's completion average would be down. I say that in jest because posters bring up the drop issue and overlook the passes that were not on the mark but were caught through great effort. Accurate passes alow for YAC

Eli takes more shots here because he is the QB who gets the majority of the praise when they win. Eli also gets paid to cumulatively pay for 12 other team players so he does get examined under the microscope
if at least half of his passes dropped were caught
ANGPASS : 9/23/2014 1:41 pm : link
eli would be at 71% through 3 games. and if you noticed, the OL has been playing better the last 2 games. Also, Richburg looks really good. Schwartz is going to have to take over RG.

Given the drops, special teams fuckups, etc., this is not a pertinent question for this specific topic.
I love this new offense
LG in NYC : 9/23/2014 2:51 pm : link
I love that Eli has the oppty to get into a rhythm early in the game... that not every pass play is a 7 step drop requiring the OLine to hold the D for any longer than necessary.

Eli is smart. Give him time to scan the Defense, and give him the oppty to get rid of the ball quickly and with multiple depth options and this should continue.

That said, he still eschews the shorter option way too often in favor of the longer/harder to complete pass.
Eli is a good player

What you and other people who like to hammer Eli don't get is that this is a QB driven league. So complaining that Eli gets paid X amount of dollars is just plain short-sighted. Who cares what the guy makes. Is it your money?

The NFL is about the haves and the have not’s. What part of the NYG being one of the 32 teams in the league that are in the "HAVES" category don't you understand? I can name at least 20-25 teams that would love to have Eli as their QB. He’s a 2 time SB MVP and winner. He's a winner, what part of that don't we get?

The last time I checked there's only 2 other QBs that are currently playing in the NFL that can say that. Brady and Big Ben...just to save you the time.

So if you want the RG3, Geno Smith's, Tannehill's, Romo's, EJ Manual's, Culter's, River's, Alex Smith's....of the world go root for those teams.

Seems to me that increased completion percentages have been a systemic issue doing with the movement of the game toward an enhanced passing game. Specifically, the emphasis on limiting defenders from contact with the receivers.

I'd be curious as to completion percentages league wide for the first 3 games versus the past five years.

Exactly! But we knew that was coming. Anyone who criticized Eli when he was playing badly is automatically a "hater", no matter whether or not the criticizm was valid. Now he has played great and I have no doubt all the so called haters are thrilled.
I always thought that if Eli played in a West Coast-like system

There is nothing wrong with criticizing a player when they are not playing well. The problem with Manning is for nearly the last three years the OL has not protected him well. When a qb is not protected well for that length of time it clouds the whole picture. Lazy analysis says "eli sucked", but sometimes it's worth looking a little deeper.

Its equally lazy to just say blame all of Eli's struggles on other players playing poorly.

A qb not being protected and not playing well usually go hand in hand, no? That's the point. In football you depend on others to do their job so you can do yours. What did i say that wasn't true? If you want your qb to play well you must protect him.

mrvax : 9/24/2014 7:58 am : link
always understood that Eli's stats were never as good as other top QB's was primarily due the offensive system he ran.
It's a heck of a lot more likely to complete a short pass than a long one over time.

I'm not surprised his completion % is way up. When Gilbride retired I was hoping and praying a new OC would install s system where it was easier to keep the chains moving and that may mean a bit of WCO.

Eli was 28 of 39 last night,
Del Shofner : 9/26/2014 11:46 am : link
which is 71.8%. Plus there were several drops and the controversial INT. He is inching up towards 70% for the season - 66.9%. I know these are just stats and the W's are more important, but still ...
