Orakpo seriously compromised. Torn ligaments in hand

BlueHurricane : 9/23/2014 3:11 pm
He still wants to play one-handed with club cast. We shall how well he can hold up.

I was very concerned about the short week on the road; but after hearing Coughlin's interview yesterday on how they are comfortable with their "short week" schedule and remembering how they kicked the crap out of Carolina on a Thursday night game on the road a few years ago coupled with how beat up the skins are I am feeling better.

There's a guy...
BillKo : 9/23/2014 3:13 pm : link
who can't stay healthy.

Going to bring a club, like Carl Banks.............
Honestly, I like our chances on the short week
SGMen : 9/23/2014 3:23 pm : link
Why not?

Skins have a superb offense and will score but so will we. Still like Jennings running and receiving on a short week.
I like our chances too this week
mfsd : 9/23/2014 3:27 pm : link
but I don't know if that Carolina game is a good reference point...that was an utter crap Panthers team, IIRC.

Of course, I'm not sure if the 85 Bears or 86 Giants or 00 Ravens or 13 Seahawks could have even slowed down the legendary Ramses Barden that night...
I'm feeling good too

Brian Orakpo has 40 sacks in 67 career games
Greg from LI : 9/23/2014 3:30 pm : link
He's a pretty good pass rusher, but people talk about him like he's Jared Allen or Demarcus Ware.

The Ramses Barden game was not on a Thursday night.

Same here.. Matt Barkley, Terrelle Pryor, Scott Tolzein and Josh Freeman KILLED us last year.
Yes
McNally's_Nuts : 9/23/2014 3:36 pm : link
it was. He and Andre Brown went off that game.

Holy shit

I didn't think Alzheimer's would hit me this early in life.
I wonder if the "Thursday night" phenomenon is a little overstated for
BeerFridge : 9/23/2014 3:57 pm : link
a divisional game like this. The Giants have made the trip to the Skins many times before and know the opponent pretty well. I, for one, like the idea of keeping the momentum rolling.
I like our chances because
mfsd : 9/23/2014 4:01 pm : link
our offense is getting hot, and the Skins are banged up so the short turnaround is tougher on them

Of course, the way the NFL goes, after losing that war to Philly I fully expect the Skins to come out and play a tough game this week
If you believe the backup qb jinx
j_rud : 9/23/2014 4:03 pm : link
You really do believe in magic or some other universal, cosmic interference. This defense as a group is yet to face a backup together and they're not taking Cousins lightly.

Kittner and Krenzel, bro! Who cares if none of the guys on this team were on those teams. We sux against backups.
I was at the thursday night..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/23/2014 4:07 pm : link
game and it most definitely was the one where Barden abused the Panthers.

Last year was a Sunday, and we were shellacked.
I mean, fuck it...
arcarsenal : 9/23/2014 4:09 pm : link
It's not like we beat Kirk Cousins Week 17 last year either.. he threw for 169 yards, 0 TD's and 2 picks.

We cannot beat backups.
The last time the Giants had a bad Thursday night was
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/23/2014 4:11 pm : link
that Bronco game, I think. I tried to block it out of memory.
People must have missed last season.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/23/2014 4:12 pm : link
That's how we got alot of our wins. Beating up on backup QBs.

I look at Cousins as a 1st string quarterback. I think he's a better quarterback than Griffin, even when Griffin is healthy. The Eagles draft room wanted to draft Cousins instead of Foles three years ago, but was overruled by Andy Reid who thought Foles was better, although he also thought that Russell Wilson was better than both.

Doug Johnson! Jay Schroeder!
RG3, as a rookie, was legitimately in the conversation for MVP
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/23/2014 4:20 pm : link
Cousins isn't a better QB. That has to at least wait for more than 3 games after a year where he posted a 60 quarterback rating.
you think he's a better QB than a healthy Griffin? Based on what?
Greg from LI : 9/23/2014 4:20 pm : link
Two games against terrible pass defenses? Again, did you see Cousins play last season? He stunk.

The big point here is that he's hardly an unknown coming into this game. There certainly sufficient film on him at this point that he doesn't legitimately meet the criterion of backup QB anymore.
Tough Game
BBurns : 9/23/2014 5:17 pm : link
Rather play Cousins as much as Fitzpatrick escaped
way too many times RGIII when healthy can be a PITA
but long term Cousins I think is the better option .
Need more of the same as last week win the turnover
battle and be able to run the ball .
Defense needs to shut the run game down if they do
I think we win a close one .
"Tough Game"
D HOS : 9/23/2014 5:28 pm : link
Cousins worse than Fitz
Win turnovers! Run the ball!
We win a close one!

destroys Zelmo so this is big news. In fact he uses Beatty so much that he's jammed up for another couple of weeks after the game. Got to hand it to Zelmo. After Donnell fumbled, his hustle tackle was huge. Same thing with Brown scooping up the missed snap and then refraining from pulling a Garo Yepremian. " I keek a touchdown." If the Giants rally to have a decent season remember those 2 plays.

we remember the kurt kittners vince youngs and drew stantons; but there are also the brooks bollingers josh freemans and matt barkleys who didn't do anything against our D; so yeah, i really don't think it's a bugaboo.

was pretty effective with the club but orakpo is no RW AND it does limit one of their key defenders so that will make life somewhat easier for beatty.

Good news about Orakpo!
redthumper32 : 9/23/2014 10:21 pm : link
Jints stop the run, score early and they will win.
I also feel.....
BillKo : 9/23/2014 10:43 pm : link
Cousins will eventually be the starter. Why would you judge him on a handful of games? However, he has flashed in a few games, and I feel is better suited to run an NFL offense, esp one such as Gruden's.

RG3 is talented, but I'm not sold on his throwing ability and accuracy, as well as how smart he plays. You can't run around like it's college......durability is a huge issue with him.
Exactly what injury does RG3
