sorry Isles fans, sounds like Tavares is in for a bad year
I could see it happening

Tavares is a monster.

Too bad the defense gives up goals faster than he can score them.

And as long as Crosby can keep absorbing the hits to the head from Marc Staal and his merry band of headhunters, the Penguins have basically punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference final. Any team that is down 3-1 to a group as talented and explosive as the Penguins is always in serious trouble. A team down 3-1 whose best player is Mats Zuccarello is basically finished.
Nothing against Zuccarello, but if he’s the best player for the Rangers, and he is, it means their highly-paid stars are not doing the job, which they’re not. Full marks to the Penguins for getting the job done, but this is a mediocre team they’re playing at the moment......

The Rangers simply aren’t that good. They have a long way to go before becoming anything approximating a legitimate threat to win the Stanley Cup, or even come close. It’s probably safe to assume now that the first-round series between the Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers pitted the two worst teams in this year’s playoffs against one another.

and a word from a reader on another one of his shitty columns

Writing a column with the general point: "Sidney Crosby isn't a dirty player because officials don't call penalties on him" might be more powerful if you didn't include a video of him committing a penalty not called by the refs.
Ken's not much for predictions
rsjem1979 : 9/23/2014 4:14 pm : link
His conference final matchups were:

East - Boston over Pittsburgh
West - Colorado over San Jose

Final - Boston over Colorado

Picked the Rangers out in the first round to Philly.

One of his other whoppers was a condescending early-season rebuke of "stat geeks" because the Leafs were winning a few games.

He's a moron.

Have to love hockey threads

Even something as innocuous as predicting an Islander winning the scoring title lights a fire in Ranger fans.
don't get me wrong, Tavares has a great shot
Greg from LI : 9/23/2014 4:25 pm : link
I just wouldn't go citing Ken Campbell's predictions about anything.
Campbell's an idiot,
BrettNYG10 : 9/23/2014 4:29 pm : link
And Tavares will be up there. Assuming he's healthy, I'd expect him in the top five. He's great.

yep, wasn't a knock on Tavares it was a knock on Campbell.
Greg, I am joking

but the Hockey News is the first place to have these predictions. I am sure we will see many more as the season gets closer.

not really. Tavares is one of the top forwards in the NHL and I could absolutely see him winning major awards over the next several years. They spite is really for the columnist, who wrote a wonderfully ridiculous piece about how the Rangers season was over when we were down 3-1 in the 2nd round, and that we and Philly were the two worst teams in the playoffs.
Hey I would love for Campbell to be wrong,

and Tavares finishes second in scoring and the Isles make the playoffs instead (and not just squeeze in the eighth spot either).
isles have

Interesting competition for ice time.

Line 1 has JT, okposo and ???
Line 2 has grabowski, kluemin and strome I think.
Line 3 has Nielsen, grabs and ???
Line 4 has cizakis, Martin and clutterbuck.

Conacher, Brock Nelson, McDonald, and anders Lee fighting for spots.

I'm not so sure grabs(if he slumps) and Martin have positions locked up.

Good problems to have finally.

Based on last night it sounds like the door isnt closed on Bailey showing he belongs on the first line. Conacher was with Grabs and Kulemin. Split squad, sure it's only preseason but interesting nonetheless.
Martin isn't going
mikeygiants : 9/23/2014 5:08 pm : link
anywhere, except maybe to the press box.

I left off bailey. Didn't realize......or did I?
