Graziano: Demps takes over at safety in tough week

is a really bad football player. I know the other options aren't great right now, but I'd rather go with the unknown and see what Behre has, instead of the known with Demps. We already know he sucks

what is the story with brown? he got benched that quickly? he blows one play (that we know of) and he's out? waht's the story behind this?

not good news imo. I've seen a lot of Demps over the years, he's just not a good safety, strictly a special steamer. Why throw Berhe into the fire in a game situation but not give him the nod with time to prepare? Makes little sense imo.

I'm just hoping it's due to the short week as opposed to them thinking Demps is THE option for the rest of the season. Hopefully it's Behre after the break.

Took 1st team reps today..

"Brown appears to have lost his job following a slow start to the season. He missed all of last year with a torn ACL, but is ranked a respectable 30th out of 76 safeties so far this season by Pro Football Focus. Brown has ranked well against the run (+2.8) and poorly against the pass (-2.9)."

I'm not saying those posters are wrong - I'm just surprised so many claim to have an educated opinion on the subject, and would love to know what those opinions are based on. Is it actually watching him play or just relying upon what his reputation is?

... who I know has been God-awful, fell out of favor pretty quickly. Hard to believe that Demps is much of an upgrade though. Kind of like the rookie but its a tall order to throw him in there and ask him to stay with Garcon/Jackson/Moss in the middle of the field.

My brother is a Chiefs fan, and I wind up watching at least a handful of Chiefs games every year. Ask any Chiefs fan what they think of Demps, and watch the playoff game against Colts again. The guy can't play

Really good kick return guy. Managed about 30 y/r last season. Not a defensive player.

Will Hill is gone and Cooper Taylor is done for the year. We had a lot of depth here and now we don't. I assume Demps will be on a short leash. He knows why he's being put in and he knows what will put him back on the bench. It's up to him now.

Would have loved him 5 years ago.

But with Hill, he was playing strong safety and flip Rolle which produce a pro bowl year. Maybe they don't want to keep flip Rolle on a short week.

it's me, but wouldn't Antrel Rolle be better suited to play centerfield safety in certain situations? He's just has more athletic ability than Brown.

He was super solid, fast and hit hard.

This He's a return specialist. Guess they had to put him into a position.

Will hill would have the back end of this defense solid as a 4 foot bong hit. Makes me so mad how this situation came about

The Megatron touchdown is one. He cames all the way over from the center of the field (where CJ was heading) to flatten Rolle who was expecting help deep center.

Has taken bad angles on several of the longer runs against us.

Has repeatedly left gaps in our zone coverage.

Of course this week as well.

He may still be slowed by injury and may get better with time - we don't know.

and Demps isn' much of an upgrade, so we don't have a good replacement for Hill on the team. I don't know if there's anyone out there we can trade for, but we do have cap room and if find someone better than Demps or Brown on a team that has great depth at safety, we should be offering a late round pick. For some reason this short season, there have been a lot of injuries at the safety position in the league. Not sure if you will find a team with safety depth.

Unrelated but there have been a lot of injuries to TE's this past weekend Pitta BAL, Watson NO, and Rudolph Minn joined the list...

As critical as I was about the TE position the Giants group has at least held it's own...TC even mentioned Robinson after the game as someone who they believe can develop...

Why? Not because of the last game, but because of all three games he has played.....he has screwed up....the last miscue on that td was the final straw....the defensive backfield is thin in just 3 weeks....we can't afford another injury.

I thought he did at the time and posted criticism about him but it was Brown not Demps (who was covering a TE underneath) who tried for an interception thinking Moore was going to force an off balance throw that screwed that play.

I hope Berhe is mixed in as well. I can see it.

Also, really stinks Cooper Taylor had to get injured like that. So unfortunate. He could be starting by now.

?? Demps has played one snap on defense all year. It was against Detroit. is that the play you are referring to? Otherwise Demps has only returned kicks so far.

and move Rolle to the FS spot/center fielder which was his natural position going all the way back to his days at the U

He tends to take bad angles with the ball in the air as well as in pursuit, we've a;; seen that. Love him at SS where he is a force against the run and short passing.

For example, I could see one starting in the base 4-3 and the other playing in the nickel.

As the season progresses, it's pretty important that Berhe surprises in a positive way. Demps is what he is, and Brown isn't what he was.

who takes practice reps with the first team. I've seen coaches to stuff like this to send a message to a player so it may not even convert into what we will see on the field. I don't see them going with Demps over Behr anyway.

nana. Hey blew many plays, gave up big plays every game. and was noticeably slower, TC said that even BEFORE this last gAME.They had issues with him going into the texans game. This was by no means over 1 mistake.TC pulled the plug after 3 weeks when he finally gave up and decided it just isn't there with Brown right now.

mah, I'll always maintain it was less about pot or breaking NFL rules tham him lying and breaking his personal word to both ownership and management. He destroyed the relationship on a personal level, and I think many don't really get that.They couldn't keep him without undermining their own leadership.In the long run they decided the problem at the position was the lesser of 2 evils, as opposed to creating a leadership issue that would never have been restricted to one man in the rotation. Greater good and all.
