I don't get the Redskins love/confidence

JOrthman : 9/25/2014 12:09 am
I've been watching all the shows picking the Skins to win, listening to all the analysis, reading the message boards, etc...And I don't get all the love their getting. I get the home field advantage on a short week, but they are coming into this game very beat up and nothing I've seen watching them has really impressed me. I understanding people picking them, but it's that EVERYONE seems to have them winning and winning easily.

I think more of that has to do with the match ups. The first week was the Packers and the juggernaught of Seattle at home. Seattle is very good at home anyway and Greenbay hasn't looked very good so far this year. Last week you had the ATL and Bucs game which is simliar to the week one game. ATL is very good at home and the Bucs suck. Yes the Ravens won over the Stealers, but the Stealers hadn't looked that good against anyone until last week.
I watched the quick version of the Eagle/Skins game last night
Jimmy Googs : 9/25/2014 8:27 am : link
and there was a marked difference in Cousins from the first half versus the second.

In the first half, he was sharp with his passes, spread the ball around to numerous receivers, and made the Eagles defend sideline to sideline with quick throws. This Redskin offense would be difficult to stop.

In the second half, he lost his accuracy and was missing receivers a lot more, and was not on the same page with them either. Didn't really see any meaningful difference in pressure but difficult to analyze coverages on tv. This is the Cousins I remember from last season.

Beg to differ
trueblueinpw : 9/25/2014 8:31 am : link
Our beloved Big Blue has one win but I'm not sure it was a "complete game". Just saying.... Anyway, Fail to the Foreskins!
A lot of pundits fell in love with the Eagles this year,

and with Wash's close game last weekend, they're reading a lot into that. Wash may be better, or it could be a case of division rivals playing over their heads.

It's almost as if some people just completely skipped over the 2013 Giants season. It's pretty incredible to keep reading comments like this over and over.

Nevermind backups in general, this same Kirk Cousins did nothing against us when we played him last year.

It'll be a tight game, it won't be an easy one but we can win and I think we will. I think we have a better team.
These NFL games are hard to predict
Essex : 9/25/2014 8:35 am : link
my guess is that this game is a tossup. We will struggle to cover Garcon and Jackson, they will struggle to cover our passing game. The former because their receivers are really good, and the latter because their secondary is that bad. In other words, who will do better, our good CBs in containing their excellent receivers or our medicore receivers in exploiting their horrendous secondary. Whoever gets that advantage will win the game.

Not to mention the fact that we are healthier and our secondary is much better then last year.

Exactly, exactly, exactly. Any responsible football fan of ANY team who saw that game would -- no, should -- say the same thing.
The homefield advantage on a Thursday night
Big Blue '56 : 9/25/2014 8:41 am : link
is bigger than general, imv. Yes, we've won on the road on a Thursday night, but I don't expect one tonight. Yes, they have injuries, but for ONE night, before a national audience, subs can effectively do their job as we've seen time and again through the years..
My main concerns...
rptl530 : 9/25/2014 8:42 am : link
Helu & Morris vs. NYG OLB's and Jackson vs. NYG deep safety.

I'll take my chances vs. Morris and the run game but NYG can't be playing from behind (10+ points). That's when the turnovers multiply.

Oh, and don't have a special teams fuckup.
I'm always waiting for the other shoe
Simms11 : 9/25/2014 8:44 am : link
to drop with this team. They've been so inconsistent the last few years. They have one good game only to take a step back the following week. I guess I can't be confident for that reason alone, but on top of that, the Skins want redemption on national TV and have lost like their last 7 division games. Regardless of their injuries, this is going to be a very tough one for us to win. Luck is going to have to be on our side this week.
I've checked a few online predictions and the majority
USAF NYG Fan : 9/25/2014 8:59 am : link
show the Giants winning.

However, I've watched a few videos on nfl.com and see what you mean. Very few of the talking heads have seemed to notice how much the Giants have improved each week. I've heard one or two say that Eli is still throwing interceptions when he threw 0 on Sunday. Granted I think Eli a gunslinger and he will throw interceptions but that's not a comment you make after throwing none the previous game.

All I can think of is that they don't have time (or don't take the time) to actually watch every game. They look at the stats, highlights, maybe lowlights, etc. That's why we occasionally hear one of them say the defense is allowing too many points or Eli is struggling. They have looked at the stats from the last 3 games without noticing that we have dramatically improved (especially Eli).

he may become good over time. He is still inexperienced. I expect to see him do slightly better than he did the last time he faced the NY Football Giants.

If we hit the field and dictate the action like we did against the Texans, we'll win this game.
The formula is very simple.
nicky43 : 9/25/2014 9:28 am : link
New York is a bigger market than Washington. Negative news draws a bigger audience than positive news. So put the negative news on the bigger market and you draw a bigger audience. This is one of the main reasons why the press is often down on NYG even at times when they should not be.

Does anybody STILL believe reporting is about reality?

do not do analytical analysis of the teams. They go by statistics like points scored points allowed etc. and other guys opinions. They have to make a call on the whole card every week and that would be too much work, Easier to go with the flow. Vegas with the vig is money driven by where the bets are going. No one knows thier teams weaknesses and strenghts like a die hard fan. Thats if they are honest with themselves.
Both teams are 1-2
RinR : 9/25/2014 10:43 am : link
but I guess the talking heads have liked what they've seen more in the Redskins 3 games than the Giants.

And I dont get all the love for Cousins. He is something like 1-5 as a starter. I know I am in the minority when I say this but I'd rather be facing him than RG3.

The Giants laid a steaming turn on national television to open the season. Followed it with a give-away loss to a backup QB and then beat a running team at home who was missing their best running back.

We have not "earned" anything. I am not convinced that the skins are that good, but if we lay another turd on national TV it will be a long time before the Giants get or deserve any respect.

In the past we have tended to stay back and play coverage against backup QBs. We will lose if we do that tonight.

Coming on the heels of your 'Did we even play yesterday?' thread it feels like too much concern over what other people think of the Giants. And coming off the Giants best performance in something like two seasons, it seems early to be worrying about the Giants getting enough credit for that one performance.

It's two 1-2 teams playing on a short week. People are picking the home team. It's not unreasonable. If the Giants lose tonight, it's a safe bet that no one's going to start a thread 'Well, the pundits sure got this one right!'

So, maybe, let's just hold fire until the Giants have accomplished something more than a one game winning streak before we're worrying that they're not getting enough love from non-Giants fans.

Your extrapolating my overall theme or opinion by combining two seperate threads on two completely different topics. One was on the previous game and this is on the upcoming one. Did you read what I wrote in the threads or just the titles of each.

If you had read this thread at least you'd know I've stated multiple times I have no problem with who any picks to win. I'm not going to go further then that, because I've already done that in multiple posts.

Of our lines...IT ALWAYS DOES.

If the Giants OL takes another step forward opening up holes for Jennings and giving Eli 4 seconds to throw the ball, we'll score points...a lot of them.

If the Giants D line keeps up what they have been doing, Jackson and Garćon wont get any separation and we'll get turnovers and sacks.

I have a feeling just based on the coaching history of this staff, and the fact the Giants have trended up two games in a row, that they take anpther step forward and win tonight.

Giants-27
Skins- 10

I also think we might see a few balls thrown down the field this game. Its the next logical step in the offense's progression.

I did read the other thread, yes. It was a 'rant' (your word) about you being 'all excited' to watch coverage of the Giants first September win in two seasons. And then being all disappointed that you only saw :30 of coverage. Not enough love.

And here you're complaining that the Redskins are getting too much love.

The two threads aren't as separate in reality as they are in your mind, as they both revolve around the Giants not getting enough time/attention/credit/l-u-v to suit you.

And I'm saying that as much fun as last week was for Giants fans, it makes complete sense that only Giants fans think it's a really big deal and it didn't carry over to this week. (Except for Giants fans.)

Hopefully, there's opportunity for you to be 'all excited' again later tonight. Because the Giants will get plenty of attention. The 'love' of disinterested parties will have to be earned, as always.

The first post was written within the first 24 hours of the win over the Texans and was a rant over very little coverage of the game. This thread is about the love the Redskins are getting going up to this game. I don't understand how you think they are related. As stated several times this thread had little to do with what people thought of the Giants and was me surprised at all the Love the Redskins were getting. I really don't feel like breaking it down anymore, cause I didn't' think it was that complicated. Others got it and commented on it, see comments from dorgan for example.
