What's up with Peyton Hillis

nicky43 : 9/25/2014 12:44 pm
I'm sorry if not up to date but I don't think he's taken a snap at all in the first three games and wondering why. Is he suspended or injured? If so will he be available this game?

I like the rookie Williams but agree with those who have observed the kid is off to a slow start. So I'm wondering why I'm not seeing Hillis out there.

What's up?
Made a nice

tackle on special teams last week.
Ummmm... He's the #3 RB on a team that so far has only used 2
BillT : 9/25/2014 12:48 pm : link
Just guessing.
He has soft hands
nicky43 : 9/25/2014 12:48 pm : link
Surprised I haven't seen him in for some short pass plays or for some Jennings relief.
did anyone pickup

He sucks

Dottino (on WFAN) feels Hillis will see work tonight. Hope he can hold on to the football.
He's depth.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/25/2014 12:50 pm : link
At some point, we'll probably be glad to have him. So far, he hasn't been needed. It's nice that he contributes on specials, which enables the Giants to dress him for games as insurance.
He is doing good work

The less we see Hillis the better

Ya,
CRotondi : 9/25/2014 12:58 pm : link
hillis is not very good at all.
I realize he's the number 3 RB but
nicky43 : 9/25/2014 12:58 pm : link
he can catch and block better than Williams and considering Williams hasn't been making any great plays I'm just surprised we haven't seen him doing any relief for Jennings in three games.

Maybe they are trying to speed up Williams learning curve to give him as many snaps as possible.
Enoch....

It's a very long season

Yup, and that's worth it's weight in gold.
What's not up is his speed
jcn56 : 9/25/2014 1:05 pm : link
He's slower than I am. And I'm not exactly chasing down cheetahs from behind.
Your last sentence makes the most sense Nicky.
Jimmy Googs : 9/25/2014 1:07 pm : link
Reps for Hillis at this point, if Williams is healthy, have no value.

Williams needs to learn the pro game, speed of the defense and improve on catching/blocking. He can't do it on the bench.

Hillis' reps at this point should be few and far between.
I thought he looked good on that preseason goalline TD
FranknWeezer : 9/25/2014 1:07 pm : link
where he Walter Payton'ed over the DL and scored.
Nothing.
AcidTest : 9/25/2014 1:33 pm : link
3RB. Isn't going to get a lot of carries, or any really, absent Injuries. ST in the interim. Seems to be a good soldier. What this team really needs is a breakaway back. Something to get in the offseason.
We may see him take some snaps tonight
Jupiter : 9/25/2014 1:34 pm : link
It's a short week, Jennings can use some relief, and Williams has been mediocre so far.
Hillis
Jerry K : 9/25/2014 2:00 pm : link
Hillis looks trimmer and quicker than he did last year. I was surprised the Giants continued to give Jennings the ball against the Texans late in the game when they had a sizable lead. With the Redskins coming up in just four days why overwork Jennings when Hillis could have taken some of the burden?

I could understand not wanting to put the ball into the rookie's hands too much (A Williams) for fear of fumbling but it seemed almost an ideal situation for the veteran Hillis.
Googs is correct
JonC : 9/25/2014 2:06 pm : link
They know what they have in Hillis, and they believe big things are in the near future for AW, and he's apparently earned the reps over Hillis.

Hillis is a serviceable RB, but he's no longer the 2010 version.
Also, it's true he apparently drifted into the doghouse
JonC : 9/25/2014 2:08 pm : link
with the ankle during camp.
Hillis also has a history of fumbling. Williams-like Jennings-doesn't.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/25/2014 2:19 pm : link
That's another reason to let AW spell Jennings when a breather is needed.

Hillis does not have a good record in the ball-security department. 1 fumble per 53 touches in his career.
not saying much
Houston : 9/25/2014 2:38 pm : link
But Williams looked better last week than the week before. At least he was getting positive yardage :>) ~ he will have his day and will only get better -
30 carries for a RB is not 'overwork'.

OL did a good job, and the speed of the game will slow down for AW
JonC : 9/25/2014 2:40 pm : link
Collectively they should continue to improve.
Wait..

Bullshit - Coughlin never plays rookies.

Pugh, wilson, randle, richburg, kennard, williams, he'll even hosley played. I think it's time to recognize that Coughlin doesn't play rookies who aren't ready.... haha
A few thoughts
Matt M. : 9/25/2014 3:45 pm : link
1) He had 30 carries in 1 game. So what?

2) Isn't this what true #1 RBs do from time to time.

3) Odd that someone is clamoring for Hillis after one of the most dominating rushing performances we have seen in a few years.

4) I also don't get people up in arms that Jennings is on pace to eclipse his previous high in carries by a decent margin. No shit. He never started a season as the premier back on a team before.
Agree Matt - it is not a big deal once in a while
Jimmy Googs : 9/25/2014 4:11 pm : link
but makes no sense to have that many touches in any normal frequency. 16 game season takes its toll on #1 RBs which is why nobody wants them after age of 30.

Got to be able to move the chains with additional folks otherwise we will undoubtedly see a less-productive Jennings as the season goes on.
30 carries is on the high end
LauderdaleMatty : 9/25/2014 4:54 pm : link
and with a short week getting another RB carries wouldn't be crazy. Williams hasn't looked very good so far. Not bad but last uyyear Hillis had about the same average per carry. To suggest Hillis who is a proven vet and can pass catch and run block better than Wiilliams receive some snaps might be a good idea.

I'm glad Williams is getting emanigful snaps and he looks like a very good RB prospect but not losing last week was nice. If Hillis can help in areas that Williams can't he should be used.
Win the game first

everything else is second or lower
Anyone watching last year
mattnyg05 : 9/25/2014 5:55 pm : link
could tell you that Hillis, while running behind a diarrhea line, was not that bad. If they suddenly can run block he might be a nice runner to spell Jennings.
Matt
Jerry K : 9/25/2014 6:31 pm : link
Exaggerate much? No one is clamoring for Hillis. Don't be a ***. 30 carries once in a while might be fine but remember this is a very short week.

Enoch, thanks for the real information re: Hillis fumbling. I wasn't aware of that.
BTW
Jerry K : 9/25/2014 6:37 pm : link
No running back in the NFL last year averaged 20 or more carries per game.
He has clobbered some guys
