I don't know if Stanton is getting traded at all but Wheeler AND TDA heading up a trade is better than almost any team could out there. That's an incredible place to start. For one year of Stanton? I wouldn't even do it.

That's not the best start for an offer for Stanton. Apparently, Miami would want a top bat with arms tossed. The Mets cannot provide that type of hitter in a return the same way a team like the Dodgers, Cubs or perhaps even Boston can. The Mets can start with deGrom and someone like Lagares or d'Arnaud, but I'm not sure Miami likes that better than what the other teams have.
First of all, Wheeler is no longer a prospect. Period. He is an established number 2 power starter after only his first full season with Number One/Ace type potential still. He is under control for the next 5 years. TDA and deGrom are no longer prospects either. Both are now established commodities. TDA is likely a top 5 offensive catcher next year, and after winning Rookie of the Year, deGrom might be the ace of a staff that includes Harvey.
If the Marlins are looking at a nice prospect package they are getting offered something like Thor, Nimmo, Smith, and Montero. Maybe throw in a reliever like Leathersich. That package alone would rival would a lot of teams can offer. We aren't trading our established stars for a 1 year rental unless its a one for one.

Why would it be "one year" of Stanton? He's not a FA until following the 2016 season.
my bad. So two years. Like arc said there is no certainty we could even retain him. Not sure why I thought he was only signed until next year. Still. No chance Sandy is trading Wheeler, deGrom, and TDA, ect for Stanton. That's ludicrous.
well you don't trade for him unless you are realistically willing to give him 10 for 300 or so, which we know isn't happening.
Has Stanton come back since he was beaned or was he shut down for the year after that?
There is no way trading for Stanton makes sense for the Mets. Trading a lesser package for CarGo or another bat or something like Thor and Murphy for Mookie Betts, but not that package for Stanton. It makes the team worse not better.
is done for the year. As I noted yesterday I don't think Murphy is a great fit for Boston. He'd have to play 3b for them and they have Cecchini (I'm not a big fan) but he's a Murphy type who they already have. I suspect Betts is close to untouchable outside of a deal for a guy like Stanton.

Cecchini may have less power than Murphy, if that's why Murphy isn't a good fit for 3B I don't see Cecchini being a reason to not want Murphy. I think they move him for pitching They have a ton of question marks all over the pitching staff and others (probably Uehara) are FA's.
I don't think they want to trade Betts, but I also believe they felt like Bogaerts was untouchable and he's been kind of exposed (he had a decent season for a 21-year old, but short of expectations overall) and isn't long for SS. And they probably would have got more for him during the off-season than they'd get now.
So, maybe they change that for Betts.
I also think they were close to considering Jackie Bradley Jr untouchable and he's now lucky to be considered a 4th OFer, more likely a 5th OFer/defensive replacement/pinch runner 24th guy on the roster.
The Sox are smart usually about getting rid of guys like Bradley while they're still well regarded prospects before they venture into this JBJ state.

Gap to gap approach, above average raw power, plate discipline and strike zone awareness need work, moves well for his size, average runner out of the box, above average once he gets moving, at least average arm, should remain in RF.

Saying d'Arnaud will probably be a Top 5 catcher in 2015 is a huge leap of faith. At this point, if d'Arnaud can emerge as a Top 10 catcher next year, I'd sign up for that immediately.
Sure, on the bright side, d'Arnaud was so god awful from April to June and better in the second half, so there is reason to believe he can put together a 20 HR, 60 RBI season. The Mets will definitely need that production, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
D J (Arkansas): Did the Mets Kingsport team have any other players in consideration?
Clint Longenecker: The Kingsport club had a bevy of recent draft picks but many of their hitters were plagued by high strikeout totals and their pitchers struggled with their control. Outfielder Ivan Wilson led their league in home runs and has a chance to remain in center field. He is a very athletic player with a great body that has lots of strength. But he struck out in nearly half of his PA (46.9%). There is no way to produce offensively with that strikeout rate at the upper levels. But he has the tools, body, age and athleticism to intrigue. Shortstop Luis Guillorme has terrific hands that are lightning quick. His average arm and below-average speed probably fit best at second base in the long run. But his hands are special.
Wheeler is already established as a starter at this level and d'Arnaud hit well in the second half. This surgery seems relatively minor, so he will be ready before Spring Training. Giving up both of them for Stanton is a lot. Throwing in a 3rd high level prospect is insane. They can get the bat they need via FA.
of how good our system has actually gotten. The most recent rankings have us around 4 and that is NOT INCLUDING guys like Wheeler, deGrom, and TDA. Just out of our actual prospect pool(Thor, Nimmo, ect) we are still better than just about every team in baseball. Forget about Wheeler, deGrom, and TDA. These guys are young controllable stars. They aren't getting traded nor should any team have any right to ask for them.
We have gotten so spoiled by a surplus, suddenly everyone seems expendable. Shit. People would throw in Montero for a bag of balls lately and he still might be a number 2 or 3 starter! Its crazy!
Great game tonight btw! Love to see Duda hit 30 tomorrow!
I'm not so sure I trust the free agent market has what the mets need.
Truly good players don't get to free agency anymore. Signing guys long term and at big money at 29-30-31 years old isn't money well spent.
Granderson was a mistake. Drew would've been a mistake. I would hope people realize Nelson Cruz wouldn't be replicating this season if he exchanged Camden for Citi. The market isn't getting much better.

Wright had his best years batting lower in the lineup. I don't think it is any mistake that when he's forced to hit third, his production has declined.
Stanton can provide the kind of synergy in our lineup that simply transcends the absolute value of his production; he will make other guys better.
We don't have a guy who can hit 3rd. If it takes Degrom/TDA, so be it, Stanton has the ability to dynamically change this team. If the Marlins came to the Mets and said, he's available and the Wilpons don't pony up the cash and prospects I will absolutely cease being a Mets fan.
Stanton is a once in a decade kind of player, and basically everyone outside of Harvey, Wright, and Lagares is expendable on this roster.
Missed a ton of time with hamstring issues this year and has inflated Coors numbers (he hit .400 there this year)
I know his splits were great last year but he doesn't have the type of power we really need. He would probably be a 16 or 17 HR guy for us and hit .280ish.. whcih is an upgrade but I'd like to think we could do better and I think we need to.
gets moved this off-season and the Mets can put together as good an offer as anyone.
I disagree with others and don't feel they should or will.
Trout is a once in a generation talent and he's surrounded by two other once in a generation talent (albeit at the tail end of their primes or even past them), but whatever and how has that worked out?
You don't need Stanton's bat to win. Especially if it means mortgaging your future and removing any depth and margin for error.
Who was the "Stanton" on the past WS champs?
2013: Sox? no one
2012: Giants? no one
2011: Cards? an old Pujols?
2010: Giants: no one
2009: Yankees (Arod, who was regularly crucified in the media for prior playoff failures justly or unjustly)
2008: Phillies: no one
2007: Red Sox: Manny? no, no one
2006: Cardinals (Pujols)
2005: White Sox: no one
2004: Red Sox: no one
2003: Marlins: Cabrera? 20 years old batted .268 during the season, no one
And then we begin getting in the Yankees years who IIRC didn't even have a player hit over 30 HR's on their championship teams, so no you don't need a bat like Stanton to win and certainly history shows this.
You need a balanced lineup, good defense, good starting pitching, a good bullpen, chemistry, and some luck.
I would not trade the farm+ established players like Wheeler for Stanton and then give him 10 years 300M and the team who does most likely won't win a championship.
He's a good hitter, has speed and a little pop. He walks a lot, too. I think he'd be a good lead off hitter - which we can certainly use. And, he's probably available.
I'm not worried about the Mets trying to pry Stanton..
Because they wouldn't be willing to give them the 300M deal that goes along with it but I agree that in the end, the cost probably outweighs the value.
Cuddyer isn't a bad player I just don't think he's enough of an upgrade. A Cuddyer/Lagares/Granderson OF likely doesn't even give you one 20 HR player. Maybe it doesn't matter but I think we really need one more guy with 30 HR pop.

Why would you think it wouldn't give you ONE 20 home run player when Granderson hit 20 this year taking 2 whole months off? I want a 30 home run bat in LF too but where is this guy? Im not seeing him. There aren't many left in baseball period. What is Duda? Third in home runs with 29? The power guys are gone. 20 is the new 30. lol And Cuddyer is about as good as your gonna find assuming he stays healthy. He can hit 20 too.
that the rebuild is over and Sandy is going to be blowing up the phones this offseason. We already know he was checking in on Tulo and Cargo like crazy at the trade deadline and even told them to MAKE SURE they called the Mets before they traded either.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if he pulled off a blockbuster or two. We have a lot of excess parts as well that could help teams. We'll see. Im excited. Hell, if didn't do a single thing I think we are a wild card team with Harvey back.
actually had Conforto in the majors in 2015, I think he expected him to play A ball this year though, and make it to AA kind of quickly in 2015 and get called up in Sep.
if that's true though, you're looking at a 1-year bridge to get your LF.
Assuming of course Conforto pans out. I think based on where he started the Super two date in 2016 is more likely than September roster expansion 2015, but in either case you don't even need two full seasons hopefully.
I don't know why you keep just discounting Grandersons bad months.
They were part of his season and the player he is. He's streaky. When he's good, he's really good.. when he's bad, he's really, really bad.
I don't think he's going to be any better next year.
Cuddyer won't be a 20 HR guy here, either.
I'd take a shot on Tomas. He could be the 30 HR guy. But I know we'll pass and watch him do it with someone else while we get nothing more than an average year out of Cuddyer.
he still hit 20! Im thinking he'll bounce back a little next year now that he's comfortable and batting a little lower in the order. He also missed almost all of last year so Im thinking that led to his slow start in April.
There is seriously like a 1 percent chance Tomas hits 30 home runs in MLB next year. Just because Abreu and Puig ended up being stars doesn't mean every player in Cuba can come here and take over the league. As I said, I'd role the dice with him but you are completely wishing upon the stars that it works out. Id be thrilled if he hit .220 with 20 home runs in his first season actually and I'd still have doubts he could even do that.
Normally that's good news, however I'm conditioned to consider that the kiss of death.

You're out of your mind. That package doesn't come close to getting Stanton.
That said, Terry Collins is continuing his season-long quest to watch a pitcher's arm fly off on the mound. In this case, it's Torres.

Sign Tomas and be done with it. (They won't do that either)
It's going to be a Cuddyer type to bridge the gap to Nimmo/Conforto. It's the cheapest option so it's the one the Mets will choose. Guaranteed.
