Orr: The moment the Giants realized JPP had grown up

Defenderdawg : 9/26/2014 6:42 pm
Orr:

"Jason Pierre-Paul was not previously viewed by his teammates as a mainstay in the film room. But over the last week, he began picking up on some of Cousins' mannerisms and couldn't help himself.

"JPP even saw it, he told us that (Cousins) was staring down his receivers," Prince Amukamara said on Thursday night, delivering a bittersweet complement."

Orr with a comment from Kiwanuka:

"That is an awesome accomplishment for (defensive line coach Robert Nunn), who basically lost all of his hair trying to groom him"

He is PFF's number one 4-3 DE against the run...

Good to hear

I was always worried that JPP would never really reach his ceiling because he'd always be trying to do the minimum amount of prep work and then skate by on athleticism.

I'm still worried. This kid is probably the most gifted DE in the league. He should be on that JJ Watt level but he isn't. I hope he gets there.
JPP

Will be fine
I also find this funny

It doesn't take much film study to realize a QB is staring down receivers. This shouldn't be something we all get excited about. Its actually disheartening that a guy in the league as long as he has been is looked at as not a mainstay in the film room and is getting praise for saying a QB stares down his receivers.
Why wouldn't he be told this information even if he was a slacker

.
Yeah

Seems like an easy observation to make.
As much as we crushed the Redskins

On Thursday, I thought Trent Williams had JPP's number for as long as he was in the game.
JPP blew up Williams on a few occasions
djm : 9/27/2014 10:50 am : link
He drew at least one hold and had a few pressures and QB hits. Williams didn't own JPP in the least and Williams can play.
I love JPP.
Klaatu : 9/27/2014 10:58 am : link
But does he have any other pass-rush moves besides the bull-rush?

No and this is a big problem with JPP. He's been playing in this league long enough to have mastered several DE moves and he hasn't. Or, he just doesn't use them.

Nunn should be working with JPP every week learning to get good at a few basic DE moves like the swim move, etc.
Trent Williams was holding on for dear life and had a holding flag

thrown on him.

What did people watch? JPP was not invisible. He's probably the primary reason the D-line's been so good. Ayers and Kiwanuka are feasting off his work.
This is the best JPP has looked to my eyes in some time.

The only thing that concerns me is that almost every game he seems to aggravate his shoulder. He needs to stay on the field.
Can anyone explain JPP's contract situation
BlueHurricane : 9/27/2014 11:33 am : link
Everyone keeps saying he is a FA after this season. The "roster" portion of BBI says he is signed through 2016.

I Agree. He looks better this year. I have no complaints.
JPPs pass rush moves haven't developed
GIANTSr01 : 9/27/2014 12:15 pm : link
but he is still arguably the best DE against the run and he's relentless when he's out there which helps free the other guys on the pass rush.

One thing I'd like is for the to reduce his snap count by 5-10 a game and try and keep him fresher for the 4th. He's currently playing almost every D snap, which seems excessive with the DE depth they have and Jenkins who can slide over to DE for some run downs.
contract
GIANTSr01 : 9/27/2014 12:17 pm : link
according to overthecap, he's signed through the 2015 season (i.e. he's a FA in Feb/March of 2016)

more contract
GIANTSr01 : 9/27/2014 12:20 pm : link
Spotrac says his 2015 year voids after the 2014 season's SB and he becomes a unrestricted FA. So it must have been a "fake" year added for cap reasons.

Spotrac - ( New Window )
if it took until the 3rd year

for him to appreciate the value of film study - that's a pretty damning statement, especially for a guy with limited experience before becoming a pro
It's not a damning statement, holy shit
David in LA : 9/27/2014 5:53 pm : link
he was a raw player from a small school, there's an adjustment period for guys to get acclimated to the level of preparation.
