Was this Eli's best game ever in the NFL

Phil S : 9/27/2014 3:40 pm
I am hard pressed to name a better game than this for Eli. Whether you look at statistics, the way he led, his avoidance of mistakes I just cannot remember a better game for him. I was not even including of his running touchdown.

NFC Championship Game

vs. San Francisco would be my vote.
That game was most notable
Phil S : 9/27/2014 3:43 pm : link
for him taking a beating in the second half and over time. Not to diminish his effort but we won that game with two turnovers not Eli's arm.

favorite game of his is still the 2007 NFC Championship Game.
Definitely right up there.
bceagle05 : 9/27/2014 3:46 pm : link
He had some great ones in 2011, including the season-saver in Dallas, which gets my vote. The two drives in the last five minutes were unreal.
Can't be his best
Headhunter : 9/27/2014 3:47 pm : link
he threw an interception in the Green Zone
2006 against Philly
dep026 : 9/27/2014 3:51 pm : link
where he led a OT comeback win despite being sacked 8 times would be my vote for regular season.
Eric what were
Phil S : 9/27/2014 3:53 pm : link
his stats that day? They scored 23 including overtime compared to 45 this week.
Statistically it's probably up there...
Britt in VA : 9/27/2014 3:54 pm : link
but "best" game ever? There have been other games where he didn't do much statistically that I thought were better, gutsier, more meaningful games.

2005 Broncos, 2006 at Eagles, 2008 at Pittsburgh, 2011 at Dallas...
Ah, statistically!
That Said : 9/27/2014 3:55 pm : link
Nah. I'll still take his toughness vs. the '9ers.
The beating he took against the 49ers
robbieballs2003 : 9/27/2014 3:56 pm : link
in that playoff game was unreal. That game was just asking for something bad to happen to us with the way SF's front seven was just killing Eli and the weather too. He didn't have the stats that game but more important than the stats was his ability to not make a mistake and keep us in that game long enough for SF to make a mistake. That was one of, if not, the most stressful games I have ever watched.
I wouldn't say his best ever
Giantology : 9/27/2014 4:03 pm : link
But definitely his best since SB46, and a very enjoyable one to watch. And the offense still has room to grow, which is exciting.
I'd say
AnyoneButPhilly : 9/27/2014 4:04 pm : link
It was his best first half of a game
Easily the JPP blocked kick game against Dallas for me.
Mike in Long Beach : 9/27/2014 4:07 pm : link
The dude didn't seem to care that nobody on the Giants wanted to block that day. He had to keep a championship season alive.
He's definitely come a long way
Simms11 : 9/27/2014 4:08 pm : link
from his first start - 0 QBR at Baltimore!

I'm hoping that this season is similar statistically, for him, to the 2011 season. If so, that would probably mean good things for the team overall, as well.
His first start was against Atlanta.

For mastery of a big game, I'd go with the 2011 Super Bowl
Go Terps : 9/27/2014 4:13 pm : link
Complete control of offense, outclassed a great opponent, made an impossible throw in a game winning drive...all under the pressure of the Super Bowl.
here's game log for eli's rookie season
ray in arlington : 9/27/2014 4:15 pm : link
the Pittsburgh game was really good. I felt hopeful after that one.
Eli 2004 - ( New Window )
Not even remotely close.
BlueLou : 9/27/2014 4:15 pm : link
The 1st two mentioned above in a toss-up, the two NFC championships Eli won, once in Green Bay in ridiculously cold and windy weather and vs the Niners in SF when he withstood the worst beating I've ever seen laid on a QB and still threw that 3rd and 15 dart to Mario for a TD in the 4th quarter. He "survived" at least a half dozen drops in that GB game, and folks remember Plax making a chump out of GB's All Pro CB (Harris?), but Eli was on fucking fire in Favre's house; that was a beauty.

Forget stats man, they really don't define Eli at his best. Though it may be very, very fun to watch Eli compile them in this McAdoo O.
I'd go with the Packer playoff game
Headhunter : 9/27/2014 4:17 pm : link
It was so cold it looked like Coughlin's face would get frostbite,Favre did not want to be out there and Eli treated it like a day at the beach
That game vs GB was one of Gilbride's best called too.
BlueLou : 9/27/2014 4:19 pm : link
He wasn't afraid to put the game on Eli's shoulders one whit and it paid off handsomely.

Tampa Bay
NYBEN : 9/27/2014 4:35 pm : link
Game 2012 ..over 500 yards and 3 TD's don't worry about the 3 INT's actually if you count 1 of the INT's he had 4 TD's. Giants win 41-34 that's all that matters. Hakeem Nicks' last big time game as a Giant

I think years from now when I think of Eli, the 2011 NFC Championship will be the absolute first game that comes to mind, every time. What a legendary performance, on so many levels.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/27/2014 4:55 pm : link
don't know...but given the weather conditions, one of the most impressive QB performances I've ever seen.
Eli has had greater moments
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 9/27/2014 5:03 pm : link
against far tougher competition. I would never consider this Skins game to be on the level of his 2 NFC Championship games, his '11 Super Bowl, his '11 game against Dallas, and other games where he showed his clutch gene against tough opponents. Eli has Heavyweight titles under his belt, beating a mediocre team like the Skins in Week 4 simple can't be his greatest game.

But in terms of treating a punching bag like a punching bag, this Skins game may have been his greatest. He took care of business and looked as in control as I've ever seen him. 5 TDs, 1 fluke INT, 18-20 passing in the 1st half with 2 drops. Probably his best performance against a mediocre team ever.
Hard to pick one game
JOrthman : 9/27/2014 5:03 pm : link
but what was very impressive about that game is who he was throwing to. I know if before the season, if BBI knew Eli was going into the game with Cruz, Parker, RR as his three WR's and Fell and Donnell as his TE's, you'd think it would be a rough game. He took that group, put up those stats and now has people talking about Donnell in the same sentence as the top TE's in the league.

Either Green Bay Playoff game would be my choices with a nod to the 2011 game. 49's defense in the 2011 playoff game had the Giants stopped cold most of the afternoon. Same with the super bowl games vs New England. Defense by the Giants won those games.

Yep, with the pounding that Eli took, being able to score like that against that defense on the road, I don't think Eli could do any better than that in my book.

What Eli reminded me of on Thursday was Phil Simms in XXI. It was as if we has incapable of throwing an incomplete pass.
In terms

Eli
PaulN : 9/27/2014 5:29 pm : link
Looked as efficient as he has ever looked, but it is 1 game and it was not a significant game in comparison to what he has already accomplished, so the comparison is not fair really. Someone mentioned the 49re game, he was not nearly as efficient, BUT, he is playing a very good defense in the NFC championship game and on the road, so how can you compare them?

Eli still doesn't get enough credit for the way he played in those conditions, on the road, in a championship game.

No way was it 2011 NFCC game. He took a beating, but he also chucked and ducked about 3 INTs that were dropped. Yes, we won the game, but it was really our defense and special teams that got it for us.

His best game imo was the 2011 divisional game against GB. We were underdogs on the road against an explosive offense that shredded us in the regular season. Eli had to control the tempo and prevent turnovers. He did both
Both NFCC games were his most impressive.
arcarsenal : 9/27/2014 7:45 pm : link
The game he just played against WSH was just more pretty. But those 2 NFCC performances were gutty as hell and his 2 best given the circumstances, conditions, etc. He was throwing darts in GB and he outdueled a legend on his turf. I'd be hard pressed to name any other time where I was more proud of Eli specifically.
Looking back is cool..
Q : 9/27/2014 8:01 pm : link
At some point in the next two, three years, maybe as soon as late January, Eli will have to silence that 12th man far away from home, for another shot at a ring.

I'm looking forward to it, as I'm sure Eli is.

The giants offense did little to nothing in the second half vs green bay, the defense played a great second half. As for the 2011 NFCC game, i don't care how many ints the 49ers 'dropped'. Maybe i will start counting 'shoulda been tds". Last i checked you gotta catch them for it to count. You sound like Ron Jaworksi, he said the next morning on mike and mike about the 2011 nfcc game when asked about Manning's performance...I don't look at interceptions, but could have been interceptions. That is how he explained a night where a qb was beaten into the ground and excelled against easily the best defense in the league at their house.
Surprised not to see Super Bowl XLVI mentioned more in this discussion

No remembers the rope he threw to manning ham? Only a few make that throw also later in the game he had a great throw to Bradshaw.

But yeah it was just defense and luck. Wow
