According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions and impending free agent DT Ndamukong Suh are heading for a split. Suh is essentially in the final year of his rookie contract as 2015 is a voidable year. PFF's No. 2 NT/DT in 2013 and No. 4 in 2012 is prepared to move on and is going to break the bank on the open market. Schefter says Suh would like to play for the Giants or Jets to help build his brand in New York, although the Cowboys and Bears are also expected to have interest. |
Pass............
Don't want him anywhere near the Giants' roster.
Lets just see how this season plays out.
That implies Rex makes it to next year. Not so sure that happens if they wins up 6-10/7-9

to secure megacontract before Detroit capitulates which they will
I could see the Cowboys making a bid considering their sketchy defense, but their precarious cap situation would just bury them further down the road.
Bears make some sense. I don't see the Giants giving up such a huge deal. I think we will see us make a few moderate signings if any at all this coming offseason, perhaps another OL, S and maybe some depth additions.
Does Suh have any character issues besides being greedy? Also is it hypocritical to say we think Cruz was supposed to resign because of endorsements and branding opportunities available in NY, but not when it comes to another player who wants to do the same?My concern is what kind of person is he? A known douche, or no?

2015 Giants Cap - ( New Window )
Couldn't the Giants add something to his contract if he signed along the lines of the dirty behavior thing? Say he gets fined 3 times in the season for illegal whatevers...couldn't we void his contract?

It would be difficult. Giants have to extend Rolle, sign JPP and possibly extend Eli this offseason (although JPP and Eli are still under contract in 2015). That being said, creating a new Bank of Eli where he takes a big pay cut in 2015 and gets paid handsomely from 2016-2018 to add a lot of cap room is possible

Not a lot of guys on that defensive list we should worry about bringing back. If OBJ looks to be a player on O than we should be focusing on the D in the draft. Safety and LB being our biggest needs. Such would be a great addition but I believe the cap money needs to be spent elsewhere.
I thought the Giants were in pretty good cap shape next year too. They should have enough money to get JPP, Eli, one of Rolle/Prince locked away and then I don't see why they wouldn't have money for Suh too unless he asks for the moon. But if he wants a ton of money, this is silly to talk about in the first place. He's going to get paid big time but if it's at least somewhat reasonable and works under the cap, you go for it. You might have to let Prince walk but you draft some combination of CB/DE/S/LB and let that defense rock and roll. JPP/Suh/Hankins/Moore would be an amazing young DL.

Keep in mind that if we sign Suh, Jenkins is getting cut which would save over $2 million in cap space. No way the Giants are paying Kiwi $7.5 million so that's more saved money. Eli and Prince will get extended which will save a ton of space. Plus there's no guarantee we keep both Beason AND McClain considering age, injury risk and salary. If we want Suh we can do it with cap space to spare.
No and no!
Suh will get between 16 and 20 million per. I'd rather purchase 2 $10M star players- thank you very much. I'm glad the Giants would never consider Suh at that price.
If JPP has a good year, we'll be shelling out enough cap already.
This. Nuff said.

there are already relationships in place with cruz (roc nation) and prince (nebraska)
it depends on if jay-z advises him to take the money like he did with cano or take less money to get into the desired market

If Rex ran that franchise, DRC would be a Jet.
I don't believe he had a say in it. He certainly would not have wanted to go into this season with huge, gaping holes in his defense.
That being said, the Giants have already invested into that position through the draft and it looks like we may not have that much of a need atDT for the moment. If the Giants are going to break the bank on a position thats probably not the one they should be targeting.
Rolle is a trickier question. At this stage of his career, the best option is to pay hiim well, but without a lot of guarantees.
I'd also rather we sign a top LB and another S, along with perhaps another WR and DE, than another DT.
If he is available, I imagine we will open the checkbook. Good luck running on Suh, Hankins and JPP.

Haynesworth was a two-time first team all-pro in 2007 and 2008. Suh may have started hotter right out of college but lets not let Haynesworth's Washington years distort how good he was before then.
For most Giants fans, it was 2008. Or maybe Will Hill.
Beyond that, somehow people are tuning into the idea that guys who aren't available to play because they're assholes, aren't actually that valuable.
Given your confusion and general lack of awareness on the subject, I only have one more thing to say…good to have you on BBI, Mr,. Goodell.
If anything, the on field antics are out of his general character from what's been presented. Teammates love him and they say he is sharp and smart. This team could do a lot worse.
and it will make up for the Beckham over Donald blunder....(3, 2, 1,...
Might he take a smaller deal to play in New York? Maybe, but in that event, the Jets will probably still be able to offer more. Also, his agent and financial advisor will remind him that New Jersey's taxes are significantly higher than the taxes in, say, Florida. Any NY discount probably isn't going to be very big.
What FAs at those spots are available next season?
Need 2 LBs.
An OL and speedy RB would be nice too.
Suh? Maybe if he gives a newtown discount and promises to be a good little boy.
Orakp & Maualuga seem to be the most promising potential prospects as of now.
Let's look to the draft to fill holes I suppose.
If the worst offensive line in the history of the NFL, according to the majority on BBI, can render Watts basically useless, put up 45 points on him, demonstrates that any player needs good players around him to excel.
Just look at the cast around LT.
If Shue wants in at a reasonable price, I'd kick the tires.
If not, no effing way.
I'd make a play for Suh and try to give Fewell more guys on the DL to rush.
I wouldn't be surprised to see JPP ask for the same money, but he certainly won't be getting anywhere close.

Even if Suh really wanted to come here,I would be hesitant with people who use that term.
for he is a force, unblockable at times, nasty streak
against a headcase, cap price?,already have jenkins, hankins, bromley and kuhn, thats 3 draft picks plus a high price free agent at the position already
he wants to win sees the giants as a way to get a ring they won 2 in recent years and have a solid roster and figure to challenge for the next few years
i also wonder about the distaction of a guy like him on the giants, when this team won it all on those runs it was because they played like a team and thursday night it seams they are getting that team spirit back. why risk it,and as has already been said he wants paid big i guess
you would need to at least have him in and speak to him get a feel for where his head is and what price he wants and then decide it would be impossible to keep prince, jjp and sign this guy i would rather keep our guys in that instance
prince has really come on the last 2 seasons and jpp is getting back to form too
I think that is a dubious decision when you consider we can spend it on Suh instead.
DRC his whole career is a lock to get 4 INTs a year. I cant pay a guy a FA deal that wont make impact plays.
He's a nice player, but not an impact one.

Prince is the one locking unto the opposing #1 more often than not and he's made huge strides in the last year or so. He's also improved on playing the ball in the air. If you don't consider that an impact player, I don't know what to tell you.

I do not doubt for 1 second Prince is an ascending player, a rare one at that, whose best years are STILL ahead of him.
My problem is that Prince still doenst project to be a probowl caliber DB. Yes, he is improving, but I'm not convinced he's going to improve into a guy who can be a 4int/20pDEF kind of player. DRC most certainly is because he's basically done that every year of his career.
So if I am given the option of the three, which are
A) Pay Suh
B) Pay Prince 5-7m/year
C) Don't pay Prince
I think the obvious choice is to select A or C. I don't think in this league you can justify paying a guy whose basically very average in terms of production 5-7m a year. Prince isnt a guy who is putting up 4int/20pdef.
How exactly does he fit with the Jets. He is a 4-3 DT who has never player NT in a 3-4. Plus, they have 2 DE in Wilkerson and Richardson who are going to get money
Suh is clearly good at what he does. But that price tag will be so high that it is a disinvestment in the rest of the team. My guess is as a FA signing, he will play hard until he knows he doesn't have a Super-Bowl caliber team and then will he will not play hard...
It would seem to me that as much as the Giants value the D Line, they would certainly be interested in a player like Suh.
They offered him 80 Million - ( New Window )
While Suh has crossed the line, I think it's just a matter of refining his concentration and ability to "turn it off" as quickly as he can turn it on.
What I think we are going to see is that the improved offensive line and better fitting offensive scheme will show that Eli is still the goods, and that we can be contenders again and so it might be easier to get certain free agents who want to win rings.
But the last time he had issues staying healthy was 3 years ago.
huh? How do people watch football and not see how good Prince has been? He was excellent last year and has been more of the same this year.
I don't get what people think they're watching sometimes.
As for Suh, at a reasonable price, how could you not want that type of talent?
These are the same people, who only see the tangible numbers (interception, pass defended, etc.) without seeing the nuance of the position. That's why many of them were touting how Steve Brown was great because of his gaudy numbers when he was far from great.
Prince has been consistently great for the past two years. He may not get you the interception numbers, but the guy is just rock solid as a CB.
He is the best DT in the league and is an absolute force and makes this dline one of the top 3 dlines in this league
The casual fan might think Canty was a waste of money, but he occupied double teams pretty consistently for us, and he filled a position of huge need at the time. Just because his stats didn't show up on the box score does not mean he never lived up to his contract.
Yeah, he was a solid player.
Prince - ( New Window )
