The Falcons have lost three O-Lineman against the Vikings

sjnyfan : 9/28/2014 7:34 pm
TE Levine Toilolo is playing RT right now. LG Justin Blalock went down in the 2nd and RT Lamar Holmes and Center Joe Hawley went down in the third. This is after losing Sam Baker before the season started. No word on how serious it is but no doubt this has to help us next week in MetLife.
So sad,,,

The Giants can
mjvm52106 : 9/28/2014 7:44 pm : link
really get on a roll here with a win against the Falcons. I don't care about injuries here or there as every team faces those problems, the only thing that matters is getting the win.

The Giants can really show something here and make a move in the division if the Eagles end up losing to the 49ers and the Boys to the Saints tonight.
Much more important this week...

still hurts, a lot, but they'll dress 8 OL next week, be they scrap heap guys or their own.

Let's see how that translates and if Matt Ryan feels some heat from the pass rush. Julio Jones an Roddy White are still out there as is Hester....
It only helps the Giants

two weeks ago the Giants had a leaky o-line too.
Atlanta's defense

I would rather have had the Falcons win today

We're only 2-2 and 1 game back. No doubt we will want to continue our success and this will be a big test for us, especially on D and Specials. One game at a time. We have to start o make home field an advantage too.

William Moore left the game with a shoulder injury. No word on how serious
We are lucky we are playing Atlanta at home...

They seem to look like a completely different team when they are on the road.
Beating the Falcons
Gregorio : 9/28/2014 8:46 pm : link
- Run to establish the pass. The Giants do this anyway but there is more justification for maintaining this approach. In each of the Falcon's losses, their opponent number of run attempts well exceeded pass attempts. In each of their victories, opponents passed more than they ran. This is only from a 4 game sample size but it's the making of a pattern.

- Control the clock with long drives and keep Matt Ryan off the field.

- As usual win turnovers.

Hopefully Matt Ryan
Simms11 : 9/28/2014 8:56 pm : link
won't have much time to pass. They've got major injuries on their oline now.

Was looking at one of their fan sites and they think they can take advantage of a weak Giant defense. Not impressed by Giants and think Falcons will come out hungrier because of this loss?! We'll see.

The Falcons defense looked absolutely horrendous today.
arcarsenal : 9/28/2014 9:35 pm : link
I was salivating watching how bad they were. If our offense plays a clean game and doesn't give the ball away, we should put plenty of points up.
We better pack some Kleenex

It's a good thing the Giants still have a chip on their shoulders. Otherwise, it would be easy to get cocky against the mess Atlanta appears to be.
the Giants always struggle vs backup OL

watch their 3 OL have career days vs us.
Had the Falcons lost the 3 Olinemen
mrvax : 9/28/2014 9:47 pm : link
to injury right after we played game #1, I'd have asked if we could sign those guys. LOL.

These are backups to the backups.
manh george : 9/28/2014 9:47 pm : link
And, with Fewell using a very long rotation, DLs will be fighting to get PT against these guys. Could be a fun day for DaMonster coming off the edge, and for linemen opening lanes for blitzes right up the middle.

Left guard Justin Blalock, a mainstay on the offensive line, suffered a back injury with 6:53 left in the second quarter and did not return. His injury appeared to the less serious of the three.

Later, right tackle Lamar Holmes left the game with a foot injury. He had a boot on his right foot after the game.

Center Joe Hawley, who left the game on crutches, suffered a right leg injury. [....]

The Falcons haven’t won a game outdoors since triumphing at Tampa Bay on Nov. 25, 2012. Their only road victory in 2013 came against the Bills in Toronto with the roof closed at the Rogers Centre.

If Blalock makes it back, the line will probably be:
Big Blue Blogger : 9/28/2014 10:53 pm : link
Matthews-Blalock-Konz-Asamoah-Carimi. Former Badgers Konz and Carimi get an opportunity to shed the "bust" tag they have worn since they left Wisconsin a year apart. Although all accounts indicate that they both suck, they aren't completely devoid of talent.

If Blalock's back keeps him out too, I guess Carimi moves inside to guard and Ryan Schraeder plays tackle. Or Tice (he's the OL coach now) can plug the rookie James Stone in at Blalock's LG spot during the week and hope Blalock recovers by game time.

Desperation may put an extra emphasis on concentration. Now if you had absolutely nothing to play for, and your team is losing week after week, that's another thing. Said team might as well just pack it in.

Coming off a win, one might be entitled to relax a bit and have mental lapses. I guess it all depends on the leaders of the team and coaching staff.

I'd say we were pretty desperate against Houston, aside from the Donnell fumble and botched FG.
Little doubt this Atlanta team can be had next week,
BlueLou : 9/29/2014 1:51 am : link
especially in "our house." Of all the things I'd still worry about re. this upcoming game, it's that the Giants or at least some members of the team may be "looking ahead" at the next two divisional games away at Philly and Dallas.

Please take this one game at a time.

Their defense can definitely be had, and if we get reasonably consistent pressure on Ryan that will help limit the damage their big guns Jones and White can inflict.

Not that that's news, exactly...

Frankly with good focus on Atl and minimal TOs a relatively easy W wouldn't surprise me in the least. No f-ups on STs too!
Atlanta hasn't won a game outdoors

Losing makes you concentrate coming off a loss?
Headhunter : 9/29/2014 7:47 am : link
If rather win and count on being a professional to prepare for each game and have a coaching staff set me up to be in a position to beat my man. The only thing losing does is breed a losing mentality

Good WR and QB. Bad OL and running game. Worse D. Coming off road loss. Back to back road games is never good for a team.

Another game Giants can get the ground game working
Bully for us.
Victor in CT : 9/29/2014 8:17 am : link
Lets hope Perry Fool doesn't decide to go with 3 down lineman in an attempt to "confuse" the backup OL :-)
Well

We know at least one of thier DE's over persues going for sacks and we should be able to run on that side all day.

I know this gets old saying it, but this game is a must win. It's potentially being gift wrapped for us, and good teams win those games. Bad teams find ways to screw this up.

Furthermore, Philly is playing St. Louis and Dallas is playing Houston. Good chance they both win next week.

Simms11 : 9/29/2014 9:21 am : link
to shed the can't win on the road out of the dome label. Giants need to come out on fire and get a lead in order to get them to force things. Hopefully Giants won't be looking ahead, because this team is dangerous and hopefully Giants won't get overconfident and undisciplined.
Losing safety William Moore...
Gmaniac : 9/29/2014 9:36 am : link
... might prove to be the worst injury of all for ATL.

Moore is a quality, underrated player.

Them losing Moore would be the equivalent of us losing Antrel Rolle.
Trouble on Altanta's O-line is very helpful but
Jimmy Googs : 9/29/2014 9:39 am : link
someone still has to get in Matt Ryan's face, keep Julio Jones under control, and tackle Devin Hester on Special teams.

Falcons still had a lead entering 4QTR yesterday, so its not like they can't still play decently.

That being said, I like our chances...

Fred in Atlanta : 9/29/2014 1:16 pm : link
I turn on the Atlanta sports radio, their comment on Osi was that somebody better tell him it is not off-sides to go to the backfield after the ball is snapped.

Atlanta has zero sacks in three of their four games played. So they have not been very good rushing the passer.
Let's just win
old man : 9/29/2014 3:14 pm : link
our own games, the rest will take care of itself.
Keep the pressure on Matty Heisman, wear down their OL for the 4th qtr.
