Geno Smith To Jeering Jets Fan: "F- You"

Patrick : 9/28/2014 11:57 pm
Haven't seen this posted yet.

Not only did Geno Smith lose today, but the Jets crowd booed the quarterback and chanted "We want Vick" as the Lions won. Smith, who completed 17 of 33 passes with a touchdown and two turnovers, wasn't happy after the game, and chose to respond to a Jets fan with a "fuck you." A nearby camera from WLNY caught Smith's comments on video.

It amazes me that New York City doesn't have two successful football franchises. The Giants have had some bad quarterbacks over the last 40 years, but they've also managed to land two franchise quarterbacks with Simms and Manning. By contrast, the Jets haven't had a top-flight quarterback since Namath was sent packing after the 1976 season. Todd, O'Brien, Sanchez.. That's it.. When I was a kid in the '60's, the older guys were Giant-Yankee fans, and the younger ones were Jet-Met fans. I became a Giant fan because of Tarkenton and a Met fan because all my friends were Met fans. Still am to this day. I hope the Jets grab a good one next year.

They cover up our SB trophies, which should tell you everything you need to know about the mentality of that franchise. I'd wish the plague on them if I wasn't afraid it'd spread.

If it were me, I'd leave them the Lombardis out on display and remind the players that we had some catching up to do.
Good for Geno.

..to be competitive is a real QB. Not to blame it all on Geno but he does not look like a future franchise QB to me.

Imagine if the Jets had Eli? With their O line and D they would be competitive no doubt about it.

That is what a franchise QB gives you, that is why Giant fans are so lucky.

I think it's too early to boo him if you're a Jets fan. You need to give this guy that you invested a Top 40 pick on more than 20 games to prove himself. He has been thoroughly mediocre but he does look a little better this year. And it's not like he's surrounded by a great offensive cast that would thrive without him.

This is why the Jets are the Jets. When they signed Michael Vick, they knew this was a possibility. Just like they knew it was a possibility that fans would turn on Sanchez when they signed Tebow. They are a circus of a franchise. They never seem to have a real plan on offense.

McNally's_Nuts : 9/29/2014 10:26 am : link
haven't exactly done Smith a favor in surrounding him with talent either. Unless you consider Eric Decker who was always viewed as a complementary piece and CJ2YPC.

I know Decker, Kerley and Johnson on the team, I don't know who else is on that squad.
All this clamoring for Vick is weird from our green cousins
dpinzow : 9/29/2014 10:41 am : link
Did they not see Vick play the last couple of years in Philly? They think they're getting 2005 or 2010 Vick when in reality he's going to play more like the Vick of 2012-2013 who broke the Eagles' back time after time with turnovers

If we take out of the equation what fans we're talking about, Eli's half of 2004 was worse than the first year and 4 games Geno Smith has had

What are you talking about? I do not get why people hate the Jets so much. And their "fanbase" is almost the exact same as the Giants...New Yorkers. Prob more LI'ers and maybe skewed younger but still largely New Yorkers.

For all the talk of the "little Brother inferiority complex" posts like Matt's are what look insecure.

You probably have been on another planet since 2009 or don't live In New York because the amount of trash talk from that fat slob since day 1 has been a disgrace. It was never this bad before he took over I never hated the Jets until the 2009 season. An their fan base is a bunch of jerk offs like driving by a giants practice this past summer yelling Eli sucks giants suck.
Their fan base is New Yorkers
Overseer : 9/29/2014 1:07 pm : link
like us. If fans yelling Eli sucks makes you despise a team, then you must despise fans of 31 NFL teams (32 last year).

The game where the trophies were covered up was a Jets home game. They share a stadium so the reality is they get 8 games a year where it's their turf just like the Giants get 8. I never saw the problem. They do it for all their home games.

Rex is a loudmouth but he's not Buddy Ryan for God's sake. He and the Jets mean absolutely nothing to the Gmen outside of once every 5 years or so. I just don't get the level of the hate for them. They're a shit AFC team. It's like rabidly hating the Dolphins.

The giants players were Even sick of their trash talking why do
You think Jacobs went after Ryan when we beat them In 2011.. An as for covering up our Super Bowl logo the giant players were furious over it..
----------------------------------------------------------------------//----------------------------
So, after the Giants routed the Jets 29-14 in the "Fight Before Christmas", Diehl, kicker Lawrence Tynes and long-snapper Zak DeOssie emerged from the locker room to push the curtains aside.

"This is Giants Stadium!" Diehl yelled as he headed back inside to join his teammates. "This is Giants Stadium!"

"Before the game we said fine, let them hang them up," Diehl said. "But after the game -- after we took care of business -- we wanted to show them that this is an organization with pride and we exposed them."

Before the game, Tynes and running back Brandon Jacobs attempted to remove the curtains, but a Jets official moved them right back into place. A security guard was put into place to prevent any further tampering.

The Jets were allowed to control the displays because they were the home team. MetLife Stadium -- formerly known as New Meadowlands Stadium -- is co-owned by both teams. Giants co-owner John Mara saw the curtains and said the Giants don't do the same to the Jets when it's a Giants' home game. The Jets have those curtains up at every home game because it's the players' entrance.

"They do that all the time," Mara said. "You have to ask them about that. We don't cover theirs."

"I won't mention what I thought," coach Tom Coughlin said when asked about it.

Giants defensive captain Justin Tuck said: "The fact of the matter is, I have a Super Bowl ring."

All week long both teams had been doing a lot of yapping. Coach Rex Ryan said the Jets were the "better" team in town. But when push came to shove, the Giants proved him wrong and came away the victors in "The Battle of New York."

"We let our play do the talking," Diehl said.

After the game, Ryan said: "They were the better team today, and they're the better team this year. Clearly, I was wrong."
The Jets have too many talented veterans...

You've spent the entire thread telling people how to feel
jcn56 : 9/29/2014 8:05 pm : link
about the Jets. You likened Matt's statement to something he'd say about the Eagles (not sure why disliking both is somehow off limits, although you've tried to extrapolate from that statement that he hates them equally). You've tried to explain away any reason anyone gives for hating the Jets, from claiming we're the same fanbase based on region to the rift back during our last regular season meeting to saying that Rex Ryan isn't his dad (as if hating the buffoon because he reminds you of his shitbag father isn't good enough).

You're entitled to your opinion, you're just not entitled to treat it like it's fact. If you don't get it, fine by me, but it doesn't make you any more right than all of those of us who dislike those turds.
I just don't get the dislike

typically that's implied when speaking of something non-factual like one's view toward a sports franchise. I'll be sure next time to begin my sentences with "In my opinion" so there's no confusion for you.

In my opinion, the degree of hatred toward the Jets by some Giants fans is excessive and petty and I don't understand it.

Again, just my opinion. Not telling anyone else how to feel.

Vick is better. Why the jets brought in a vet backup only to leave him benched while the starter struggles I have no clue.

Rex is going down with geno's ship. He's a fool just like his old man. At the very least he should start geno and bring in Vick second half. But I'd bet that Rex doesn't want to "lose geno"' or he's being stubborn or his hands are tied and the gm wants geno playing.

Whatever. Fuck that organization. If they ever won a title their fans would make life miserable for NYG fans in this area. The media coverage all but begged for the jets to take the spotlight from NYG. Fuck em.

Their fan base has been humbled, and more importantly, so has their head coach... the attitude of their fans seems to have disappeared with the bravado of their head coach. Rex's behavior has been much more tolerable over the last 18 months than it had been. The fans have been much more tolerable with their team sucking it up.

Woody Johnson is still very petty and his jealous of the Giants is so sad and transparent that I love it when the Jets lose.

I definitely root against the Jets still but not nearly as much as I used to.

I don't believe they are worthy of consideration and certainly should not get under anyone's skin. They can have the back page of the NY Post. The Giants get the front page of the NY Times, headlining Super Bowl victories.
