a perfect example of "mob" mentality. hertzlich was a favorite the great BC backer who was unassailable. any comments about his gait, speed, or decision making were met for two years by a total board defense and frequently by a personal attack on the poster.
now everyone is on line to throw shit at hertzlich without much objectivity either.
I agree he is a poor lb'er. I think no one my self included really grasps the subtle effects of chemotherapy on brain and nerve function. most go unnoticed in plain old people, but I think the effect on the cns of a pro athelete are devastating to that extra ability they have.
I think it makes little sense and its unkind to harp on his deficiencies. the coaches will do what they think is best for the team
no one is attacking Herzlich personally. Everyone is attacking his lack of ability on the football field at this point. His recovery from illness is a great triumph for him, but it doesn't give him a pass on the field. Either perform or be cut, that's they way it works in the NFL and he isn't performing.
does not translate to bursts required at game speed. Beckham could be one such burst away from going back to sitting.
Hope that scenario does not play out. But until I see several quarters of full speed football, I do not plan on thinking of him as part of the Giants offense going forward for this season.
Good point. It isn't like the Giants are being super cautious with him--wait...

Herz was unassailable as a prospect before he got cancer. I think its obvious that as a prospect the treatment took a irreversible toll on his body.
what he has accomplished off the field. His play on the field is something else. He was not even close to the player he was supposed to cover. His back was turned and he was running away from his guy. Wasn't even close.
or any of the other BBI Drs have any general comments about the re-injury risk of OBJ's hamstring, given it has been problemmatic for months?
I fully understand they haven't examined him and haven't had access to any medical data, but does the Giants behavior suggest:
1) They weren't initially being cautious and they now are?
2) They were initially being cautious, a set back occurred, and they are still being appropriately cautious?
3) They were being cautious, had an unexpected set back and are now being extra / over cautious?
Finally, is there any reasonable likelihood that the amount of time OBJ has been able to rest the hamstring will significantly reduce the re-injury risk, or will it (as I suspect) be a game-to-game / play-by-play crapshoot for the rest of the season?

Love the man and the desire, be he can't play LB in the NFL. I would be fairly shocked if Giant coaches put him back on the field with the outcome of a game still in question.
is that he's pretty good on Specials. Which makes him a reserve LB who only plays Specials unless there's an injury and unfortunately there is one now.
I tend to not spend time blasting him because of his great story and then also because he's a back up.

they give ODB shorter routes that would be less likely to re aggravate it but its not an exact science. key is for him to take it slow and not come out too fired up to prove something and re injure it.
if there is still talk of him 'managing' his injury after nearly four months of rest you can stick a fork in this dude. I think the Giants might as well tell him to suit up and give it everything he has to maybe get a single play out of the NUMBER 12 PICK in the draft. Then he can go directly to IR and rest another eight months and maybe, possibly, perhaps, be healthy enough to actually play next preseason.
Thanks for clearing that up for any of us idiots that think he might actually contribute this year. I will now follow Dante's lead and "Abandon All Hope".
PS. Are there any other players you think we should write off for this year? Beason? Schwartz? Kennard? Beatty? Oh wait, he has come back and played well. Prince? Oh, he has come back and played well. JPP? He has come back and played well.

I agree that Herzlich plays great on STs. But Fox really impressed me on specials since he's come onto the roster. So if Fox has more upside as a player I'd keep him vs. Herzlich if that was the choice. Of course, I'd likely cut Brown or Brewer as quickly as I would either of the LBs.
No reason to rush Beckham, Id rather they take their time.
The offense is humming and hamstrings are very easy to re-aggravate. To say nothing of the fact that he's had little to no practice time and doesn't know the O. Let him practice for a few weeks at 100% with no setbacks before they put him on the field.
Hope he holds onto the ball.
I hope he's ready.
Dont forget what happened to our last first round pick that got the ball in his hands.

After the first few games I was thinking this offense isn't going anywhere without Beckham contributing. Even if just to get defenders off Cruz.
Swapping Jernigan for Parker and Donnell's great catching has made the offense better than I thought possible w/o a decent X receiver.
It will be great to have Beckham out there.

best way to develop a weak 53-man roster...
