...has been drastically improved - he's made more hustle plays blocking downfield in 2 weeks than I can recall in the last 2 years. That being said his technique in pass protection is still hit an miss but mitigated by how quickly the ball comes out. When we get to the middle of this schedule and play some backfields that are going to really challenge out receivers, and Eli may be forced to hold the ball a little longer, I'm concerned some of the shine will come off what has otherwise been a solid turnaround (that being said I don't think he's the only one who's reaping that same benefit).
he's really worked hard, and to get healthy, the get in in game condition while learning a new offense at the same time is impressive. I have to tip my hat to him.
We had massive amounts under the salary cap committed to him, and there was a real risk that he would ultimately have to be replaced by a new, very high draft choice or cap allocation on a veteran.
The rebound to this level (whatever the level is) was never a given.
the entire team was brutal last year. Singling Beatty was always dumb.
Because other players played poorly, Beatty's poor play shouldn't be brought up?
And no one played as poorly as Beatty who was also in their physical prime and once a good player. His decline was astonishing.
Nope, not at all actually. Feel free to bring it up all you want, I don't care. But as another poster above stated, some people would rather he fail just to be right. I'm guessing you may be one of them.
He got hurt on a hustle play. His power and toughness were average in the past. Last year his technique fell apart. This year he looks to be both stronger and tougher. His pass blocking technique is improving, but not where it was in 2012. He will be fine if he stays healthy. He is good at riding his man behind the QB. Last year that did not work because Eli had to drop back further due to the surge that came up the middle on almost EVERY play. When he tried to adjust people beat him to the inside. Solidifying the middle of the line has made a huge difference. Beatty can take away the inside rush via leverage and is fast enough to react to the outside rush and push his man wide. Eli has not dropped as deep and Beatty has looked better.
was the absolute certainty by a bunch on here that Beatty would be a repeat of last year performance-wise..He had injury issues last year..My question to those people effectively was, "why can't he be the 2012 version?"
Now (and yes, there's a long way to go), it's a lame, "wow, didn't expect this." When you're so damn adament, of course younwon't expect anything of this sort..
Beatty rebounding is much bigger than most people understand.
Had he struggled like last season OT would most likely be our biggest need during the offseason. When you consider that JPP is a free agent and in the unlikely event that he leaves via free agency DE is a huge need with Kiwi also an UFA to go along with DT, LB, WR, TE, S (with Rolle a free agent), and CB (with Thurmond and Bowman UFA and McBride and Prince in the final years of their deals. .

Its easier to be miserable. That's what I learn each day on this board. Most of the time I ignore it but the Beatty stuff is a perfect example.
My biggest worry about Beatty was never even about ability. I worried about how much he wanted to be good. There have always been whispers about him not loving the game and not wanting it badly enough.

My answer would have been that he's had to answer questions about his consistency and motivation since college. I think those are valid concerns. Its never been about if he can be a great player, but more how badly does he want to be one. I'm still waiting for him to finish out two productive seasons in a row. I don't think that is too much to ask of someone who is being paid close to $40 million over 5 years.
how much of the improvement in OL play on passing downs can be attributed to Eli getting the ball out faster in with this new WCO offense.
Eli this season through 4 games is releasing the ball in 2.21 seconds, which is 3rd in the NFL behind Peyton Manning and Andy Dalton.
The fact that he's releasing the ball almost as fast as his brother means he finally has an offense suited to him like his brother (I'm loving McAdoo's work)
I've been one of his harshest critics and the last two games he's been good to very good. And I for one am fucking over joyed that he's playing good because I want the Giants to win.
The moronic notion that most would rather be right than have one of our players play well is just that. So sit at home at feel all morally superior if it helps. I for one don't give a shit about being continually being wrong. These last two weeks and especially Thurssay night were well worth me being wrong that Beatty would continue to suck.
For all the wailing and moaning on here about how much he's costing the Giants, his actual numbers are hardsly out of line. In fact, given his performance in 2012 and now this year, are a relative bargain. I fail to see where he got an extraordinary amount of money considering other Tackle costs. Tackle costs for 2014 - ( New Window )
Beatty might have completely flattened Keenan Robinson, the Redskin LB
who "picked off" Eli in the end zone, but he was really only the 3rd guy in on that tackle. Richburg and Jerry both got a piece of Keenan first but he just got away from them, or almost got away from them, when Beatty arrived to lower the boom.

He may revert but I sure as shit hope not.
I assure you it has nothing to do with moral superiority. I know none of you in real life, and wouldn't really judge anyone except for the select few that go out of their way to be horrible people on here.
That said, if you go off of the posting activity of certain posters, negativity and rubbing it in your face go hand in hand. I don't do call outs, but plenty exist on here.
If ESPN told you that Joe Blow, a light hitting shortstop, was leading the majors in batting average at the quarter mark would you would feel the need to loudy proclaim that joe blow isn't the best hitter in baseball? No, of course not because everyone would understand the context of joe blow being off to a great start doesn't mean he's now the best.
Now PFF stats and the more straight-forward batting average aren't a great comparison but the point remains the same.
RE: RE: We have users here proclaming that the season is over in march
I think Beatty's play is a combination of 1) his being healthy and 2) the Guard play next to him is much better. If hypothetically speaking you have four lousy lineman and 1 good one, the 1 good one likely would still look lousy. He is depending on the gaurd to do things and be in places, and if he's not then all hell breaks lose. Its sort of like blaming an Int on Eli when the WR runs a bad route.

Except maybe Nicks also
Also, how much can be attributed to the fact that these guys now have 7-8 games playing together as a unit.

Nobody was right about the offensive line or the TEs.

I'd love to re-visit "the" season is over thread from April or whenever that was.

Oh, we will! :)
He creamed Jonathan Joseph of the Texans and completely flattened the Redskin who caught the pass off the rebound.

This URL is from Jenny Vrentas detailing each year of his deal. (I'm putting the URL for the list of Tackles as a bona fide link.)

Yep, that thread will definitely be entertaining to re-read...

I've got it bookmarked.
Well, that's not going to happen, but it doesn't mean he can't have a nice, long career.
He just needs to be good most of the time, nothing more
