I remember him as a Met.

Davy Johnson gave him every chance, but he just wasn't good enough to be a starting shortstop on a major league contender.

The guy is a hero

Oh to be well paid for 13 years despite accomplishing nothing. One ALCS win in 13 years (I believe his first year on the job).

Last 4 years i believe they lost 90+ every year.

Just phenominal ass kissing and blackmail as needed. I'm jealous - wish I had that kind of job security.
The question is

how hard he roots for Joe Nathan this October. I know Tigers fans cant wait to see how that plays out.
Interesting tidbit

This is the first time the Twins have fired a manager since 1966.

For a minute I thought you were talking about Billy beane. Oh how I wish they didn't make the playoffs.
Interesting. Always seemed like a good manager to me.

It's not like they were full of talented players.
They had a lot of talent in the 00s
MetsAreBack : 9/29/2014 4:27 pm : link
Johan Santana, Joe Mauer, Torii Hunter, a healthy Justin Morneau, Liriano, Joe Nathan, Matt Garza, Cuddyer, young AJ Pierzynski, Jason Kubel was a very productive player back then, guys like Denard Span, a young David Ortiz, Cristian Guzman was a good player back then... Joe Mays and Kevin Slowey were productive young pitchers...

But they will forever be remembered as the Yankees postseason bitch. Lost to them all 4 or 5 times they met in October, and the series rarely went more than the minimum 3 games. Joe Nathan i think blew all 3 or 4 of his save chances in Yankee stadium. It was pathetic.
Seemed to me to be both a good manager and good guy.

I suspect that he will find a job fairly quickly.
