Giants 2015 free agents

DaveW : 9/29/2014 8:14 pm
It may be a little early for us fans to consider this (but we can probably rest assured that it's not too early for the front office). Thanks to BMac for the link.

Free agency numbers from spotrac - ( New Window )
And Prince should really be on that list, too.
BillT : 9/29/2014 8:20 pm : link
He got a one year extension but he's really due to be resigned to a long term deal.
Williams, Rolle, Thurmond and JPP
Big Blue '56 : 9/29/2014 8:39 pm : link
are my priorities, but if we lose JPP, so be it..If Prince is a FA, then he moves to the top
I have to disagree with you on JPP
David in LA : 9/29/2014 9:22 pm : link
it's not a "so be it" type of deal. If we lose him, that's a huge loss and leaves a sour taste in the offseason.
you lose JPP
Blue Blood : 9/29/2014 9:39 pm : link
you have to get another starting DE who is young..

Williams to me is not a priority at all..

Rolle and Thurmond possibly.. but need cap friendly deals..
Snyder figure
rdt288 : 9/29/2014 9:50 pm : link
Is that correct?
I'd take those numbers with a grain of salt.
Lurts : 9/29/2014 10:06 pm : link
They have Calvin Pace as a Giant free agent in 2016.
23 mil under projected 2015 cap
Chip : 9/29/2014 10:10 pm : link
once you subtract Wilson contract. projected 14o mil. If you restructure Eli or extend with him easily another 10 mil. Real easy to sign JPP, Prince and Rolle. Will have to tender Donnell. Numbers from OVer the cap.

With some pretty good accounting, such as making the first years of Prince's and JPP's deals moderate, but all guaranteed, we can fit a certain defensive tackle from Detroit who wants to play in NY
JPP is a must re-sign
djm : 9/29/2014 11:04 pm : link
Giants won't let him get away.
Larry Donnell, John Jerry, Quintin Demps & Walter Thurmond
George from PA : 9/30/2014 5:42 am : link
should be relatively easy signing....Larry should be a restricted FA...Walter coming off injury and the other two are more valuable to us but not really big names.

So,

JPP and Antrel are going to be curious issues.

I love Rolle but at what price...for how long....

JPP is probably more valued in open market...then he is to us. I feel he needs to do more to deserve a big $$$$$ signing

Would be good to have JPP, but I won't consider him a "must" unless he goes back to 2011 form, which despite having a good season so far, he's nowhere close.

He's still young, but he's already had back problems, would that be a problem down the road?
JPP is a must sign
Big Blue '56 : 9/30/2014 7:28 am : link
if he reverts back or is close to 2011. Otherwise, I wouldn't break the bank for him. I'd let him walk if need be..
Prince a must. JPP is a tough one. He's playing well
Victor in CT : 9/30/2014 8:07 am : link
and looks to be in condition, but is it a salary drive? And he really hasn't developed any technique. It would be a loss, but a big $$ contract could turn out to be an albatross if he gets lazy. Rolle is getting up there age wise, but is still playing at a high level. Maybe a front loaded deal? See ya to J. Williams and Paysinger.

Did you ever think that Larry Donnell would look like a "must keep" player at this point in the season?
Contract design can mitigate
PEEJ : 9/30/2014 8:11 am : link
some long term problems. Giants seemed to shy away from large signing bonuses this off-season (except DRC).
Picking up the option...
rptl530 : 9/30/2014 8:18 am : link
on Prince was a no-brainer so that buys NYG some time. I believe that will get done this year or next.

Of that list only Rolle is a must with JPP being a close second.

Of course it all comes down to money though and NYG will stick to their script in dealing with it.
JPP and Rolle
Doomster : 9/30/2014 8:40 am : link
are the only ones on that list worth going after......but at his age, you are not offering Rolle 7M per, and JPP has to show he can play a whole season before he becomes part of your future plans......

On the open market, Rolle will not get that kind of money, but JPP may get a big offer if he lasts the season and plays well....
I don't trust JPP a to stay in shape once he's paid
Go Terps : 9/30/2014 9:02 am : link
.
FWIW I think JPP
Kyle in NY : 9/30/2014 9:15 am : link
is getting close to that 2011 form. Excellent against the run, creating pressure, high energy. The sacks will come.
Donnell will be an ERFA. He costs almost nothing to keep in 2015.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/30/2014 9:22 am : link
Assuming he's in their plans long-term, the Giants hold all the cards in negotiations. It makes a very big difference that he was on the practice squad in 2012 rather then the 53-main roster. Imagine if Cruz had spent 2010 on the PS instead of IR. Unfortunately, his very public preseason coming-out party against the Jets pretty much ruled that out.

Jacquian Williams is the Giants' linebacker of the future... and seems likely to remain exactly that, until he leaves.
Keep in mind
sjnyfan : 9/30/2014 9:36 am : link
Kiwi is due $7.5 million next year which he's not getting. Either he gets a reduced slary again or cut outright which would save nearly $5 million. That will help come free agency.
sjnyfan: Just to be clear, $7.45MM is Kiwanuka's 2015 cap number...
Big Blue Blogger : 9/30/2014 9:47 am : link
...not the amount he's due. But you're right about the potential savings from cutting him.
JPP
Fish : 9/30/2014 11:46 am : link
is a MUST sign. Without him our DL is vanilla.
Something tells me that Rolle would be willing
eclipz928 : 9/30/2014 12:03 pm : link
to give the Giants a hometown discount should they resign him. I get the sense that Rolle loves being here and would want to retire as a Giants. I can see them coming to terms at around $6 mil/year, which I think would be reasonable.
If Larry Donnell keeps playing this well
George : 9/30/2014 3:44 pm : link
He will attract a lot of attention from other teams. His price tag will be significant.
jpp, prince, donnell and rolle is price is right
msh : 9/30/2014 7:37 pm : link
hynoski and wiliams should be easy enough/cheap enough to resign. jpp is a must you dont find starting pass rushers like him easily and when you do its way more

prince is the priority in the secondry, top 5-8 CB you dont risk losing that, rolle is a good player but his price and age mean it must be for the right cap price

isnt donnell 2 years into a 4 year deal so 2016? restricted FA?

the rest would bother me much maybe and thats a big maybe for jerrnigan
