Philly sport talk idiot Mike Missanelli

blueblood'11 : 9/29/2014 8:34 pm
In the preseason he proclaimed the Giants were a mess. I think a lot of us thought the same even though they appeared to have a lot of able bodies on the team. Said they would finish in the basement one of the worst teams in the league. Said Eli was finished. Time to take him out behind the woodshed and this was the end for him and that the Giants needed to draft another QB.

Well, I think it's safe to say he was way off base. And I also think it's safe to say no one is going to concede this division anymore to the unstoppable Eagles.

Today on his radio show one of his callers was crying about the loss and the offensive line woes and other concerns for their unstoppable Eagles. Missanelli then responds to the caller that their next two home games were against inferior opponents and when they take care of business and are sitting at five and one they won't even remember this loss.

He actually believes the Eagles are so good that the Giants are inferior. Not a tick below. Inferior. That insinuates they don't belong on the same field with the Eagle juggernaut. Is there anyway this sentiment could become bulletin board fodder in the Giant locker room the week of their meeting?

This guys take just blew my mind. This Eagles team is good but they aren't that good. I know it's just stupid being stupid and I shouldn't give it a second thought but this is a classic example of why I dislike this team so much.

He was a joy to listen to the last year of Andy Reid's tenure
He made

the target on the Eagles backs that much bigger for those 2 inferior/weak teams.
Missanelli is practically...

Edward R. Murrow compared to the rest of the slop that makes up Philly sports radio. And he ran seeking off the air - he'll always be great for that alone...

EVERYONE including giants beat writers were calling them a mess - and everyone picked the eagles to finish first. I don't think you can complain about that.

And that eagles game still scares me to death in two weeks. Take no opponent lightly. And our LBs are nothing like San Frans. If we held the offense to no rushing yards and no points- then and only then can we talk.

He may very well be right.

None that I'm aware of.
I agree
blueblood'11 : 9/29/2014 9:03 pm : link
He's not that bad and was skeptical in the preseason about the Eagles on a lot of levels. So his take on the Giants I attributed as someone who really has no knowledge of the moves made in the free agent period and the lengths the Giants went to change the face of the team.

So, for him at this point to classify them as inferior after the charmed life the Eagles have been living the start of this season and the legitimate beat downs the Giants and Cowboys have laid down the past two weeks he isn't paying attention.

What the fuck are you talking about??? I made it clear we all thought the Giants were a mess. And I never suggested they take the Eagles lightly. And to hold any team even the least of them to no rushing yards is incomprehensible. Never going to happen.

I realize this will be a tough game but the Giants are not an inferior team. And they have a lot better defense front to back then last year. Lots of depth goes a long way. And they have that at every defensive position if you haven't noticed.

They will be competitive in this game. The Giants won't take the Eagles lightly that's for sure. However, the Eagles would be crazy to take the inferior Giants lightly.
If you really expect people to start...
Crispino : 9/29/2014 9:33 pm : link
respecting us, it's going to take a bit more sustained improvement. No one is really sure where this season is headed yet. I'm guardedly optimistic, but not ready to get all giddy about this team. Show me some consistency.

Sounds like we're more in agreement than anything, you follow exactly what I'm talking about... Because you yourself said as much.

Dude he's an eagles guy - why wouldn't he say the eagles will bounce back and beat the giants? They very well might, handily.

Then again - they might not.
I'm optimistic about the Giants,

but I remind myself that the combined record of the Texans and Redskins last year was 5-27.
Texans are 3-1 this year

Let's see if the Giants continue to improve. Let their play on the field represent who the Giants are.
I am fairly certain after 4
bhill410 : 9/30/2014 6:26 am : link
Game it's accurate to call the giants inferior to the eagles. Let's see them continue to perform at this level before we get worried about Philly sports talk. This can be safely classified in not a big deal whatsoever.
I never said
blueblood'11 : 9/30/2014 7:01 am : link
the Giants were better then the Eagles. And I realize in recent years we've seen this trend before. But this team is loaded with a lot of guys who have a lot experience up and down the roster. Look at the defense. Look at the secondary. The way they played in Detroit was flabbergasting when you look at the talent and experience on the field.

I think the biggest concern on the offense was the fact they were installing a new offense and along with it are the growing pains. It would appear they are moving past the growing pain stage wouldn't you agree. And the offensive line was so bad last year the worry was how do you improve it. They have not played that bad the past three weeks and as a result Eli is finding his receivers.

I know we need to see more have them be more consistent. You can say that about all teams. But if you are going to sit there and tell me the Giants are inferior to this Eagles team I think anyone who believes that is crazy. They have as much talent on that field as the Eagles. So how that makes them inferior is beyond me.

Someone ask Bill Belechick after the game about his quarterback situation. It was asked in context with how the rookie played during garbage time.

That should tell you all you need to know about the credibility of many covering sports today. They are more interested in creating controversy than reporting well thought out commentary.

Isn't that kind of the job of sports talk hosts? They are not reporters.

If the Eagles are so great
ANGPASS : 9/30/2014 8:08 am : link
Why are they always down by double digits? Yea, the come back and win, but the rules in the NFL today allow comebacks more than ever. Green bay came back and won being down 21-3 and the cowboys came back being down 21-0. that is what happens when you play prevent defense with these rule changes. at the end of the day, the eagles r overrated. when they play a great D, foles can't do shit.

Good idea. Shut down the Corner folks, no point in us talking! ;)
Eagles are eminently beatable. Key is to not let them get rolling
Victor in CT : 9/30/2014 8:22 am : link
early. If you can hold them to some 3 and outs or short, non scoring drives early, while having some long drives of your own, you can exhaust their D by halftime. Kelly won't change, he'll keep throwing every down.
The ultimate test
WideRight : 9/30/2014 8:23 am : link
will be Giants vs Dallas 0-line. If they pass that test, ten they can handle anything, and that includes Philly.

Thats where the focus should be. It means turning the D into stallwarts and the O into a ball control machine, not unlike some of Parcells old teams. I would love to see that happen.
Bottom line
blueblood'11 : 9/30/2014 8:29 am : link
It's been said in the NFL it is a fine line between winning and losing. No doubt. And in this era of salary cap and free agency keeping a team together is nearly impossible. Having depth is paramount. Keeping that depth from year to year is the challenge.

There is no question the Giants have more depth this year then in 2013. You look at he running backs, the secondary, along the defensive line, linebacker, and even the offensive line. That's what helps teams in this league win games. Depth. Some have more then others. The Giants have plenty of depth.

I know that assures nothing. It's what they do on the field. But it is quality depth. This is not an inferior team. You want inferior. The Raiders. The Jaguars who almost beat the Eagles. Those are inferior teams.
Wide right
blueblood'11 : 9/30/2014 8:37 am : link
Agree to a point. I think the Giants are showing to be a pretty complete team. They can run. They can pass. They can pressure the quarterback. They have a very good secondary. They've been good at stopping the run. I believe they will compete no matter who the opponent.
I heard Tony Kornheiser on Thursday's Redskins game preview
Bramton1 : 9/30/2014 9:37 am : link
say that the Giants were an inferior team, their line was a joke, and their quarterback was bad. He stressed Washington couldn't give the Giants any short fields, because they weren't capable of putting together a decent drive more than twice in a game.

I downloaded the Tony Kornkeiser podcast for the first hour of Friday's show. Said the Giants was still a bad team and Eli was still a mediocre quarterback. He was bashing the Redskins' defense for making a mediocre QB look so good.

Might have to download the podcast for Friday's PTI to see what the back and forth was on that.

People will believe what they want to believe, and once that belief is in their heads, they'll fight tooth and nail to hang onto it. In 2007, we win every playoff game. Didn't matter. Predicted to lose every one.

In Kornheiser's mind, Eli had a good game because the Redskins had a bad one. If we beat Atlanta, it will be because of the Falcons' injuries. If we beat Philly and/or Dallas, it will be because those defenses were lousy. Wonder what he'd say if we beat an Indy or Seattle. Probably say it was an off day.

Actually said the Giants beat the Redskins only because of the Eagles. He said the Redskins were so tired after playing Philly that they couldn't get ready to play the Giants. So there you go.
Fuck Sal Pal
blueblood'11 : 9/30/2014 2:54 pm : link
The Giants were on a short week too against much more physical opponent. And If the Eagles beat them up so bad it sure as hell didn't show up on the score board. The Eagles are not the cream of this division any longer. No one in this division is giving them anything. They want it they have to earn it. The Cowboys and the Giants are going to give them a run for their money.
