Fate is a funny thing and I could easily see you returning to the Ginats next year (or even later this year if injries to WRs occur) when you are fully healthy and can contribute. It was obvious you were not yet at 100% all through training camp this year.
But clearly, he's not ready to play again (if he ever will be). I wish him well. His place in NYG history is forever secure, and even if he has to retire, he went to the mountain top.
I wish he had it in him to help us out this year. Maybe he can come back next year, healthier, and ready to go.
#82 will always have a special place in Giants lore. Manning to Manningham baby! I can hear Shepard (or was it Shepard's son?) announcing it on the PA system in my head.
that he would stretch the field with his speed and elusiveness. On balance, we couldn't ask for more than he has done, sux that the injury ended this year.
from that awful injury. Too bad because Mario clearly gave it his all and wanted to be a Giant again.
Nevertheless, he had some premium moments in his short career. Mario seemed to score a lot of touchdowns in key divisional games, and his Superbowl catch will be replayed for years...
In the 2011 playoffs you were just fantastic. TD's in each playoff game including the HUGE one to put us ahead in the NFC Championship game and then one of the biggest catches and clutch catches in Super Bowl history. Giant fans also should take note that Mario was targeted FOUR times in our game winning drive against the Pats.

Replaying that Manning to Manningham announcement in my head as well. MAHN-ING TO MAHN-INGHAM, spilled by Allen.
In addition to those marquis catches, in 2011 vs SF (reg season game - loss) he made a catch in the corner of the end zone looking back into the sun @ Candlestick that was pretty friekin' incredible.
In his rookie year, his 1st TD was at home vs 'Skins (I think) where he tiptoed down the sidelines for about 15-20 yds. I remember thinking that this "steal" of a WR would be just that...
Thanks, Super Mario!!!
With Nicks, Smith, and Hixon hurt, the starting WRs were Manningham and Derek Hagan. The Skins just doubled Manningham, took their chances with Boss and Hagan, and had everybody else crash the run game.
Until the one play late in the 3rd quarter when they took a chance on a blitz and left Hall alone on Mario-- 92-yard TD. He got literally 1 chance to make a big play as the only WR with any playmaking ability in that game, and he nailed it.
if he could return to his pre-injury form. He seemed to never fully grasp the Coughlin/Gilbride timing offense, but he sure did make some all-time catches when it counted.
wishing you well, supermario!
Well done Mario

Best of luck to him, whatever his next step might be. Considering how early his knee problems started, he's had a pretty good career.
