OBJ, really gonna be our Returner???

yankeeslover : 9/30/2014 6:16 pm
or am I going crazy and reading wrong... i saw a few threads saying that OBJ when healthy is gonna be our returner going foward... is this really smart for a 12th pick and for someone with hammy issues? or is returning less stressful on that joint?
Also, is Holliday done for the season? I cant find if it was short term IR or full season IR..thanks in advance...
Yes
pjcas18 : 9/30/2014 6:18 pm : link
probably and Holliday is done, one returnable IR slot per team and Schwartz is on it
thanks for clearing that up

Very stupid rule, IMO. Who does it serve?

They are worried about teams faking or exaggerating injures to hide players on their roster so they don't have to release them.
I don't think so at least not right away
BillT : 9/30/2014 7:24 pm : link
Too much risk for a guy who's been injured. I think they'll stick with Parker until some later time. Just a guess.
Keep Parker back there
Mark from Jersey : 9/30/2014 7:37 pm : link
why chance something freaky on special teams?
Really, I'm more concerned about him fumbling
BlackLight : 9/30/2014 7:42 pm : link
than getting hurt.
after sehorn
msh : 9/30/2014 7:44 pm : link
i would hope they learned you dont risk a high first round guy you want to be a key player for you running back kicks
there is plenty of guys on the roster and FA you can sign for that

Tell that to Percy Harvin and Devin Hester and D Jax
he
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/30/2014 7:50 pm : link
has had zero practice with the offense.

If you want him to make an impact in the last 12 games, being a returner is the quickest way.

The hamstring is a set of muscles, not a joint.
Hips, knees ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and finger and toe knuckles are joints.
Not to mention where I hang out on weekends.
People got to get over Sehorn

It's going on 20 years, and yeah, it was horrible, but folks gotta get a grip.

I thought he was practicing
this week. ..if he doesn't
tc wont let him play...
I'll bet eli throws to him
and he runs wrong route
and INT
you made my point for me
msh : 9/30/2014 7:58 pm : link
harvin has never finished a full season and has a huge concussion problem the bears cut devin hester because the doctors said he was done due to injury/concussions and djax is a head case they got for free because he is a problem and mixed up wuth gang types the eagles under kelly couldnt overlook the way reid did
We didn't mind David Wilson returning kicks, right?

Julian Edelman, Randall Cobb, etc. Harvin was never injured returning a kick, he was injured as a WR/RB, so your point you think he made for you is reversed.
I never once worried about Dave Megget
Headhunter : 9/30/2014 8:22 pm : link
getting blown up returning a punt. I was at the Giant Jet game when Sehorn blew out his knee. It could happen at anytime , but you can't obssess over it. You have a guy that can change field position you use him.

You don't make up 2-3 months of missed practices in one week.

He is so far behind it's not even funny.
OMG a regular player returning punts ??
Blue Blood : 9/30/2014 9:06 pm : link
What would Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, Antonio Brown, Golden Tate, TY Hilton, Percy Harvin, Desean Jackson and Jacoby Jones think about a full time player returning punts...

What are the Giants thinking.. dont they know you dont put top quality full time starters on punt return duty !!!!!

OMG he might pull a vaginal muscle !!!!!
Strained labia majora
BlueHurricane : 9/30/2014 9:22 pm : link
Will keep him out even longer than the hammy. Gotta be careful.

go-big-blue : 10/1/2014 9:10 am : link
Actually, he should be more wary of the labia minora, those are a bitch to get a full stretch going during rehab
returner
giantfanboy : 10/1/2014 9:17 am : link
we put David WIlson back there when he was rookie
and he did a pretty good job

also in modern NFL a returners job is pretty much now
taking a knee or watching the ball fly over your head out of the endzone
This isn't even controversial.

It's so common for first-round picks to return punts and/or kickoffs that there's not much to discuss. Tavon Austin was the #8 pick last year. Fisher had him returning punts right from Week 1, and he was already an important part of the Rams' offense.

Yes, Jason Sehorn, Jason Sehorn, Jason Sehorn. We get it. Now get over it.

Steve Smith seemed to catch up pretty quickly. It's simple, if Beckham is a good player he'll get open.

My concern would be that he had no reps as PR
Victor in CT : 10/1/2014 10:28 am : link
at all in preseason. That's a tough job going in cold.
Dontboobigblue: If you're talking about Smith's rookie year (2007)...
Big Blue Blogger : 10/1/2014 10:36 am : link
... that was a completely different situation. He hurt his shoulder against Green Bay in Week 2, after catching three passes in the opener.

That was TC's stated hope for OBJ ... His college career is full of spectacular PRs ... He has great field vision, quick acceleration and can change speed and angles on a dime ...
While he waits and learns the patterns and timing ... he can be a great contributor ... and like you point out ... it's quite common ...
Was Beckham really that special as a punt returner at LSU?
Big Blue Blogger : 10/2/2014 5:27 am : link
I've seen one great return, against Ole Miss. On his other TD, the North Texas coverage unit looked like eleven Duke Calhouns. I know stats lie, but if Beckham were the second coming of Devin Hester, wouldn't you expect more than a 9.3-yard career average on a team that physically dominated most of its opponents? Consider his predecessors in the role. Patrick Peterson averaged 16.1 in 2010. Tyrann Mathieu averaged 15.6 in 2011.

Beckham also returned a missed FG 109 yards for a TD against UAB. Those opportunities are rare in the NFL, especially now that Jay Feely is out of the League.

I don't see a problem with Beckham returning punts. It just doesn't seem to be a big deal either way, especially with the blocking Quinn's units provide.

BBB, enjoy this video and find the answer to your question. Beckham finds the end zone on punt returns twice in a row.
Ira: I've seen the highlights of that North Texas game.
Big Blue Blogger : 10/2/2014 9:25 am : link
The return where Landry got flagged for an illegal block was pretty good. The one that counted was basically an uncontested sprint.

When LSU opens its season at home against a non-conference cupcake that goes on to finish 4-8 with blowout losses to Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State and Louisiana-Monroe, I think you have to take the highlights with a grain of salt.
I'm going to pin this thread when Beckham scores his first career TD
