already played 3 full seasons of Junior hockey. Last year he scored right around 100 points. I know he needs to fill out a bit, but wouldn't he benefit more from spending the time learning the game from St Louis, Nash etc?
Duclair is a winger so he won't be replacing Step who is a C. Miller will play some C, we still have Brassard and Moore.. Hayes will get some looks at C, there's Lombardi who isn't helping himself by not being able to stay healthy.. Mueller has played well. So.. we'll see how it shakes out
They need to keep him around. Stepan's injury is irrelevant here, it's only on the wing.
Who you keeping out of the top 6 wings?
Nash, MSL, Kreider, Hagelin, Zucarello, are all givens.
Glass/Malone/Stempniak are 4th liners.
That leaves Duclair, Fast, Hayes (if not at Center), Miller (probably a Center), Haggerty and Kristo as the options. Lindberg in there to if you move Miller or Hayes to the wing.
Maybe I'm impatient but I really don't get the risk averse types Â
Avoiding contract to count on the overall 50 limit. You let a 19 yo kid play a lot more while not having the pressure of an NHL season. You let him mature physically and mentally on a lower level. You let other prospects who are more matured get the spot and unfortunately can't bring the Jr eligible guy back.
All things that seem to be null and void when a kid has game like this.
a legit question....who comes off the lines he would need to play on? It's a good problem to have but, you have to get rid of a contract, he needs a place to play and you would also bump another older prospect off the radar.
Sending him down accomplishes nothing. There is nothing else he can learn down in juniors. He's proven he can play at NHL speed and is defensively responsible. Remember, you also have 10 games to let him play and can still send him down. If he falters, send him back. But right now, he is on the team
who doesn't shoot high, wide but buries the puck. You don't put him on the 4th line, you put on your big boy pants stick him on the second line and don't look back. Not a lot of human beings can do what he does naturally
the door to Duclair sticking around on the team for the first 6-10 games and going from there. As for the lines, why not play Duclair with Hags, regardless he has to be in the top 9. I wouldn't be shocked to see one of our top 6 wings play center to start the year, if not you might see moore play center as a top 3 and then possibly mueller as the 4th line center. Either way all good problems to have. If duclair struggles early he gets sent back to juniors and haggerty gets a shot. Also tough for Fast. he deserves a spot as well, thats why I think they move someone to center that we are not expecting.
but the penalty Duclair drew was as impressive as his goal. He is by no means a finished product but sending him back to the Juniors to work on
what he could be working on up here under the wing of St Loius, is a waste
that the Rangers are working on moving someone to free up a contract so Duclair can stick. If he's already burning a year of his Entry Level Contract and he's played as well as he has it makes sense. Rangers have spots to win and he's played well enough to get some play there. Ideally you'd love to send him to the AHL so he can get top line minutes against pros but obviously they can't do that. This is the next best thing. He has nothing to prove in Juniors anymore.
is a nice player that will be fun to watch develope also. There is a lot to be excited about, but the Rangers are paper thin on Dmen, an injury or two back there and I don't see the depth
Which is great to see. The NCAA free agent pipeline has really been an invaluable asset for the Rangers to supplement their system with developed talent after having traded away draft picks.
HH, there is plenty of depth on defense. At the tip of the spear the Rangers may have the deepest and most well-balanced top 6 in the NHL. In additional, they have Allen/McIlrath beating down the doors in Hartford, Bodie learning the pro game, and Kostka/Hunwick perfectly capable of playing the 7th defenseman role. The Rangers are in an enviable spot with regards to the blueline.
Elliotte Friedman dropped a few bits of knowledge on the Rangers situation with franchise savior pre-season standout Anthony Duclair:
2. The New York Rangers are at the maximum 50 contracts, with Anthony Duclair making a push for the roster. Because of his age (19) and when he signed (Jan. 2, 2014), his entry-level contact will not “slide” this season. So, he will burn the first year of that three-year deal in 2014-15 whether or not he plays in the NHL. Can’t pin down who, but there is no doubt the Rangers are trying to move at least one body so there is room if necessary.
Any confusion about what exactly Duclair’s contract status is should now be resolved. If he were to stay with the Rangers, his contract would count against the 50 limit, thus putting them over by one contract. Since his contract does not slide, the nine game tryout period does not apply. As a result, Duclair can stay with the Rangers until he proves that he’s unable to perform at the NHL level consistently. This is great news for Duclair as it makes the Rangers decision to keep him with the Rangers that much easier.
As to who the Rangers are trying to move? Fingers crossed for Tanner Glass! Despite signing a three year deal this summer, his position on the team is actually somewhat precarious. There really isn’t a spot for Duclair readily available, one will have to be made, which would create a push down effect on the lineup. Lee Stempniak could potentially find himself in a fourth line role and I’m pretty sure the Rangers have NHL plans for Ryan Malone. It’s October and Glass is already scheduled to be a healthy scratch. is Friedman's thoughts. Only the first paragraph. The rest is the bloggers opinion. Including this:
Quote:
It probably won’t be Glass though. I’m sure he’ll get at least until January to prove his incompetence. The easier move would be a player like Ryan Bourque, who is out of options with the Rangers. Another guy is Dylan McIlrath, who probably could return a mid-round draft pick based solely on the fact he’s a former first round pick and there are still some dumb general managers in the league.
No way they move McIlrath. He's finally turning into a player that's not a liability out there.
The part from Friedman is valid. He is burning a year of his rookie contract no matter what. He can't be sent to the AHL because of his age. Therefore, you have to give him a look in the regular season. The Stepan injury is the perfect opportunity (yes I know Stepan is a C and Duclair a W). AV has the luxury to give him a game, 5 games, 10 games or more to see if he is really ready. If he's not you send him to the Q and move on.
The other issue is the 50 contracts. Again, this is meaningless. We are not talking about trading Glass or McIlrath. The 50 contracts is every pro signed. There are guys that you never heard of that can be dumped with no effect on the team.
I think its the other way around. One guy can score, the other can't.
//still bitter
