NFT: Southern Tier/CNY Question-

Sean : 10/1/2014 3:56 pm
This is just a quick question for BBI'ers in this region of NY because I'm seeing conflicting information on the internet-

Is TOMPKINS COUNTY considered part of Central NY or the Southern Tier (or could it go either way)?

Thank you.
I consider it to be Southern Tier.

Ithaca belongs to US, not CNY. Syracuse, Auburn, Canadaigua - top of the lakes are CNY.

Tomkins is a 'peripheral' county.

Southern Tier - ( New Window )
central ny to me

Tompkins County is generally considered to be part of the Southern Tier region, not Central New York.

I grew up in Binghamton, with relatives and friends in Ithaca, and worked professionally in the Southern Tier region before moving elsewhere, so I do have a little first-hand knowledge of that area.
I've seen it categorized as both..

I grew up in Tompkins County and never considered it part of the Southern Tier. Central NY, yes. Finger Lakes Region, yes. Southern Tier, no.
Ithaca is awesome..

Really, the diamond of the Southern Tier. Well worth the visit if you've never been.
So it seems we are split..

so I take it, it really could go as either and is on the fringe.
