I cannot remember a Giants starter that is less talked about than Jenkins. He has been a solid Giants, good pass rusher, decent against the run. Stats on PFF are that of a top 15-20 Interior Lineman, how come we speak so little about him?
1) He's not a young draftee
2) He doesn't make "flashy" plays (he gets great push up the middle but others often get the actual sack)
3) He's not a high priced FA signing
That all said, he's an integral part of the DT rotation and hopefully Bromley can develop into a player of his caliber.
Fred Robbins in '07, Chris Canty in '11, Jenkins in '14.
During the Coughlin years, the Giants have done a good job of putting a stabilizing veteran in the middle to complement young talent like Cofield/Alford, Joseph and Hankins. Jenkins was a necessity after Marvin Austin flopped, and he has worked out really well. When the Giants signed him, he looked like a two-year stopgap, with a bit of dead money in year three; it's a pleasant surprise that he might wind up playing out his whole three-year deal at a high level. It partly depends on how quickly Bromley develops. CJ sure doesn't look done.
play his entire deal at a high level. Though outside of JPP, the snap counts for the Giants DL have been pretty low so that should help keep them healthy all season (knock on wood).
If Bromley develops this season, he could be a cap casualty to save ~$2.2M though at his current level of production that's probably unlikely. Plus depending on what they do with Eli, they figure to have at least $10M in cap space.
Jenkins could get hurt, or his performance could plummet, or a 2015 draft pick could beat him out in camp. At his current level of play, though, he would be a relative bargain at $2.2MM, even in a rotational role. Remember, if you release him and eat the remaining $667K of unamortized bonus, you still have to replace him. A good rotational 3-technique isn't cheap, unless you get lucky with a rookie.
He is the type of vet player that you must have. Not flashy, but capable, knows what he is doing and can handle himself out there. As an interior DT who can play the run and get a pretty good push, he is very valuable.
Every time I hear/read his name, I want to yell out:
Don't know why/how you can to that conclusion and I'm not debating it, just curious. Did you watch him specifically on replay?
Jenkins is the kind of player you want around if he can still be productive. 1 year contacts only though at this point.
I haven't reached any conclusion - sorry didn't mean to imply I did, just saying I notice him less than last year. And it's possible based on age he's lost a step.

He's over 33 years old, the end comes quick for these guys.
Last year much more active and visible.
this year, he has his moments but disappears for long stretches.
He's still on the field over 50% of the snaps, so he's not value-less, just not as good as last year.
