Giants alternate uniform

NYFG 23 : 10/9/2014 11:19 am
If the Giants HAD to wear an alternate uniform once a year, what would you want the jersey to be? Would you want them to go back the Red jerseys?

The 80's jerseys?

A blue on blue sort of thing?

gray on gray?

Or would you choose from much older jerseys?

Remember that there is a new rule that says if you wear an alternate uniform, you have to use the regular helmet.

didn't Skiba say something about them last year ?
the reds.

#16 there.
Nike could try to force the issue
Greg from LI : 10/9/2014 11:47 am : link
But I doubt the Giants would ever agree to wear anything like that Pro Combat shit.
If they could adapt the jersey from 1934, that'd be sweet
pganut : 10/9/2014 11:49 am : link
I really like the 1934 jersey,
81_Great_Dane : 10/9/2014 11:53 am : link
but I don't think we'll ever see that. A lot of people want to see the V-neck 80s uni. That'll probably happen. I don't have any particular affection for that uni, though I loved the teams that wore it.
I like #12 as well.
TheBigBlueOne : 10/9/2014 11:54 am : link
Simple.
80's uniform no question

I don't hate any of the old styles...
Jan in DC : 10/9/2014 12:03 pm : link
Honestly, who cares? They're for 1 or two games a year, I say do it. It's fun, and we still get to see the best unis in sports the rest of the time.

And the 80's Blues!!!

I'd love to see Eli in the 1980s / 1986 blue uniform.

I also agree that from the "really old uniforms", I do like 1934. I don't particularly like anything red in a "Big Blue" uniform, however the 2007 to today red and white away uniforms have become memorable because of the two SB wins.

I also like the away uniforms from the 1980s as well; the all while with blue numbers.
Always liked
Phil from WNY : 10/9/2014 12:09 pm : link
the 1975 uniforms - except for the helmet. The team sucked but I liked the uniforms.
The blue pants in 1975 looked pretty good
Greg from LI : 10/9/2014 12:11 pm : link
The jersey looks a bit too much like the Bills for me.
I got a question for when team are wearing these alternate uniforms.
TheBigBlueOne : 10/9/2014 12:14 pm : link
Do their current helmets change as well?
80's. Definitely 80's.

Still a LOT of fans of that era around, throw us a bone!
I'd prefer
FJ : 10/9/2014 12:26 pm : link
A modern version of one of the jerseys from the 1930s, along with grey pants.
Thankfully they phased the red ones out
NYG82 : 10/9/2014 12:28 pm : link
The only throwback I am interested in seeing the team wear are the 80's uniforms but without the GIANTS helmet even that doesn't make much sense.

Thanks to the thread starter though for putting in all of the pictures. This thread pops up constantly but at least this one contains pictures of what to choose from.

Until the NFL changes their one helmet per season rule, I doubt we'll see any throwbacks.

I think by rule they now have to use the regular helmet, due to player safety issues.

I like that helmet design, too. Would have loved to see it once a year.
This uniform history for the Giants is FAR MORE ACCURATE

than any other.

Case in point - the 1934 Giants jersey was red, not blue.

I personally like 1971's unis
McGIANTS : 10/9/2014 3:45 pm : link
Sure the team didn't fare well that year, but this is the best mix of the 80's and somewhat, today's look too.

another vote for the 1980s as alternates
WeatherMan : 10/9/2014 3:51 pm : link
couldn't stand the reds.
you need to go with only two primary colors
haper : 10/9/2014 6:11 pm : link
With the Eli red throwbacks in the OP, you have three primary colors; Blue helmets, red jersey and gray pants. Compare that to the LT 80's uniform which are blue and white.

if they took the red elements of the away jersey and made them blue. I concur.

I agree, because you'll end up with two primary colors and not three.

But....

I think, and have always thought, that the 80s/90s uniforms are nothing special, and I actually like the red alternate unis. And, I'd much rather the '34 unis as a throwback than 80s/90s.
No love for these beauties?

Too similar to Dallas for my taste. Which is probably why they did red anyway.

SHO'NUFF : 10/9/2014 9:53 pm : link
if it had a Super Bowl trophy attached to it.
The problem
TheNeumann64 : 10/9/2014 10:56 pm : link
with our away uniforms now, is that the most signature thing on them is the Red Stripes on the sleeves, and most players barely even have sleeves anymore. So they look cool on like a fan wearing a jersey, but the actual players? Just a lot of bunched together red under the shoulder pads.

If I had to see an alternate, I'd love to see the White away jerseys from the Parcells era. I'm not much on throwbacks from the '20's of '30's, which no one alive remembers anyway. I like the '71 jerseys posted, but if we're talking one game a year, I'd definitely go with the Parcells-era jerseys, preferably the whites.

Minus the dated helmet logo, those are actually pretty nice. I'd hate blue pants with a blue jersey, but blue pants with a white jersey looks pretty good there.
Ive been saying for years, since they got the red jerseys,
j_rud : 10/9/2014 11:22 pm : link
that I'd like to see grey jerseys, it was cool to see that Wilson jersey, I don't follow that stuff so I had no idea it was out there.

For awhile I didn't like the idea of the 86 era throwback, not really sure why, maybe bc the blue on the helmet doesn't quite match the blue on the uni's, much like Minnesota for a long stretch. But I've warmed to the idea in recent years and was disappointed when they canned that idea.

If so, you gotta realize there's no way Nike would go the old school/throwback route. They're highly more likely to be Oregon-ish. Face it.

If a team really doesn't like one of these modern but Any Given Sunday ugly uniforms, especially a traditional team like the Giants, who basically wear throwbacks every week, can it be forced on them?
No
Sneakers O'toole : 10/14/2014 9:22 pm : link
the NFL and the teams retain all control over uniform design. I suppose it's possible that the league could choose to relinquish that control, but that would be their decision to do so
