Actually feel good about the Dallas game..

Big Blue '56 : 10/13/2014 12:24 pm
Never felt it for the Eagles game, not for a minute..Like a bunch of you, you kind of get the sense(that's all it can be) how the next week's game is gonna turn out and more often than not the feel turns into basis of fact. We'll see of course..But as an aside, I can't remember the last time we won a game when the players talked smack or with too much confidence heading into the next contest. Can you?

My reasons for this "sense" of mine:

1) The hype will be all about Dallas..Much more than the usual Dallas Hype..The talk will be twofold: The usual America's Team theme, PLUS, the BEST team in football at present fellating..TC will talk that up all week

2- Given the above, it's human nature to get full of yourself, especially an organization as dysfunctional as Dallas' is..They just beat the SB champion in their house which is rarer than rare..

3-I do not believe the OL will perform this way again as they have been improving..The best of lines have horrific days..They will fix the leaks imo, just watch, though as I've said, Jennings' ability to help protect Eli was a huge loss..Heal fast, hurry back

4-We lost arguably our second biggest O weapon in Cruz and that, added to the Cowboys overconfidence, will, no doubt, imo, allow us to "sneak" up on the Cowboys with a diverse passing attack with Donnell being featured more. OBJ, Randall and Donnell should be able to mitigate the Cruz loss somehow, BUT, we need to effectively run the ball.

5-The Giants will be very quiet this week, study even harder and allow their being buried by MOST, be their catalyst towards a top performance..

Murray will NOT reach 100+ for the first time this year, because EVERYONE, including many here, will cede him 150+ in all likelihood..The Giants will shut him down, imo..

Sorry this "feeling" or "sense" is not fact-filled or devoid of any facts..

Now we're definitely going to lose.

before the Seattle game, Dallas was giving up the most yards per play in the league.

Now, they are able to control the ball with their running game, thus keeping the ball away from the opposing offense.....which helps great.

We certainly have a chance in the game....every NFL game is different.

And Dallas will no doubt be confident, and perhaps over confident.
Me too

Different day, location,and team.
And we all knew in our hearts that, after game 5, games 6 and 7 would give fans a measure of what the Giants would be this year. And yes the injuries into and out of last night are brutal. Also, this season was going to be a growing pains season as we transition both a new O but also new players on D.
That all said, at least we know that based on the Watt and Seattle DE misses that TR has a spin right move he likes and can pursue him accordingly.
Lets see what results are before we panic.
If we really are only better than Oakland, Jville, StL and Washington and those level of teams, its what it is.
In the meantime, lets go BigBlue.
Depending on how things go with DRC, etc.

It's very possible that Dallas will skull fuck the Giants. We're in pretty bad shape.

Last night really threw me for a loop after the previous 3 threw me for a loop for the opposite reasons.

I'm just gonna get drunk and enjoy watching the Giants play Dallas on a nice fall afternoon.

Go Blue.

All the talk coming from
Bleedin Blue : 10/13/2014 5:29 pm : link
the Eagles post game, about how they figured out Eli's hand signals, and where he was going on his audibles, brings back the nightmare of the Panthers' game. The game where Delhomme was telling his defense to look for Eli's hand signals, and what they meant , and where he was going to go with the ball.
This was such a bad loss, but it was still just one game. I hope they can put it behind them, deal with Cruz's loss and move forward.
Dallas is going to put up points
Dave in PA : 10/13/2014 6:27 pm : link
I don't think the Giants will be able to hang in a shootout. Based on Dallas' recent play and the Giants just putting on one of the most pathetic performances I've ever seen in the NFL, optimism is almost nonexistent
No one should be confident about this game
Patrick77 : 10/13/2014 6:38 pm : link
The Giants did nothing right last night and have been beaten by every reasonably good team they have faced thus far. Dallas is better than the Giants.

Not saying they can't or won't win. Just saying anyone having confidence in the Giants clearly isn't watching them. The lions game wasn't an aberration. And it's not like the team is deep enough to replace injured players with decent production anyways.
An up and down league you say

Up one week down the next. Is that what you accept and expect from this team? Because if that is what you are willing to accept then all you are getting is a five hundred team. And that is a team going nowhere.

just going along for the ride...brings back memories of the 2011 season, how many times were we the best team in the NFL, only to get clobbered the following week:

losing to Seattle at home on the INT return, 36-25, after 2 impressive wins @ PHI and @ ARI

4 losses in a row, @ SF, home to Eagles, destroyed @ Saints 49-24, then GB loss at home

Then how about the pathetic home loss to Wash after a thriller blocked FG @ DAL, JPP, the week before...
They'll probably play much better

need to basically not shoot themselves in the foot (drops, penalties and turnovers) and play with a sense of focus and urgency from the opening gun to close. there is a small margin of error with the injury depletion.

need to get play action going on offense and play hungry aggressive defense from the start.

Dallas will be getting all the attention and the bullseye square on their backs. Plus, Eli tends to play well against them, especially in their stadium. Hell, even in the opener last year, he rebounded from that terrible first pass and lit them up pretty well.
fkap
Matt M. : 10/14/2014 4:21 pm : link
I actually think the opposite. This is the kind of game they usually win under Coughlin. Just when it seems like they can be counted out, they will play up to an opponent and give hope (sometimes false hope). Being undermanned, going into Dallas, Dallas fresh off their upset of Seattle, the giants will be clear underdogs given no shot at winning. That is why I think they just might do it.

The one reason, and it is a big one, I think we might not, has nothing to do with our injuries. Rather, it is the quality of OL play Dallas is getting. The Giants DL and LBs have to be magnificent on Sunday.
I'll add
Matt M. : 10/14/2014 4:27 pm : link
that even though the WR and possibly RB corps are thin, i think they still have enough to do damage if the OL holds up. Beckham moves to a starting role. He and Randle give opposing something to think about, especially when they also have to account for Donnell and to a lesser degree Fells. We may see more 2 TE sets, with one in the slot or motion, instead of 3 WR sets. We may also see a little more of Hillis strictly for his pass protection and hands out of the backfield. But, i fully expect Williams to shoulder the load running the ball.
I'm with you doc
gidiefor : Mod : 10/14/2014 5:03 pm : link
I think we are going to make their backup QB play - and stop the run - which is doom for the boyZ - and our Oline is going to bounce back big time

last Wednesday the threads were all about how much we would beat the Eagles by. Now, the talk has turned to winning three more games the rest of the year.

The worst part is that people post that kind of shit with a straight face.

we're not out enough to be almost counted out. I agree that perception has it that we win those games. This is one of those have to win to realistically stay in games. My perception has it that we typically lose those games. Of course, my other perception is that TC led teams rarely live up to perception (ie they're all over the place), so what do I know?

Not whiplashing. I missed the predict the season thread (did we have one?). but I was thinking 8-8 plus/minus (leaning toward minus) a game. We're on track.

I was looking at all the thread starts on the first page and instead of rolling my eyes and lamenting, "good lawd," I actually laughed. Pretty clear we got badly outcoahed. Frankly I don't expect that to happen twice in a tow to a TC coached team. Now I do think we will have a serious issue vs the Dallas OL and Murray, but I expect a close game, one way or another.

Sunday Night was the final reinforcement I needed to realize for good that our "sense" doesn't mean a fucking thing. Anything can and will happen on Sundays. This is just not a predictable sport save for a few instances.
Of course not, but are you telling me
Big Blue '56 : 10/15/2014 3:00 pm : link
that you had a strong sense(I don't recall what you said) that we'd beat Philly? I certainly didn't
.
arcarsenal : 10/15/2014 3:21 pm : link
I did, actually. I thought we'd throw all over their secondary. I thought there was not enough talent in that back 7 (especially without Kendricks) to account for OBJ, Cruz, Donnell and Randle and that OBJ was going to get singled up a few times and burn them badly.

I thought the Eagles O would do a little damage but I figured Foles was banged up and a couple of big hits could really throw him off early. I thought we would contain McCoy the way we did so well last year. I genuinely thought we would win this game and it went nothing like I thought it would.

We can compare offenses, defenses, ST's, the ways teams are trending, the way players are playing, account for injuries.. it doesn't matter. Games rarely go exactly the way we think and a lot of times, and I doubt this one will either.

I can usually get a pretty good feel for a game after just a few minutes. But until then? Fuck if I know.

I felt the same thing before the Carolina game last year.

The week before, Carolina lost 2 DB's and had to start a street FA signed that week. They were banged up at RB and WR and outside of Kuechly, their defense seemed pedestrian.

Then, they just sent the house at the OL, broke it down and we were mauled.

I've given up trying to get too high or low because frankly I can't predict a damn thing. You know - it is pretty much like that with all teams.

Which is the reason the NFL is starting to circle the bowl. It's roulette wheel football.

This has got to be one of the most difficult sports to bet..I imagine it could be a killer on the wallet
I felt the same as arc last week

I thought the Giants would control the clock and that LeSean would be totally slowed down by a disciplined defensive effort. What I didn't see coming was total regression by the OL. I am of the opinion that the Eagles game would have been a nailbiter with a Giants OL performing up to its capabilities.

Now down in Dallas those jokers are strolling through practice coasting on the fact that they just beat the best team in the NFL and meanwhile the Giants need the win desperately. I am cautiously optimistic that we will have a very competetive game on Sunday. Not necessarily a win but I think the G-men will bring it.
Good one.

You know I usually lean toward the optimistic side like you. Unfortunately, I don't see it this year. There's no more room for error, and I (unfortunately) think this team still has a few clunkers left in it.
We clearly aren't going to the Superbowl.

BB56, I think if I had seen your post prior to the game I would have told you this. Nothing has changed since last weekend that would lead me to believe that this team will go through some kind of transformation and become something they are not. The players are not going to become better players after one "good week of practice". So, although I wish your optimism would become a reality, it will probably not happen. Even with no injuries, we are playing with players that are less talented...period. We need to be playing against teams that either A. are less talented or B. shoot themselves in the foot multiple times in the game.

We got excited about crushing the Redskins because Cousins just came off of that good game. Well, they performed the same way for the next few games with Cousins throwing int's and now our win just does not look so special anymore.....because the skins are not what everyone thought they were. They are what I referenced above.."A" less talented AND "B" shooting themselves in the foot multiple times in the game.
