It's a big problem that's come home to roost. Colin@gbn posted a lengthy opinion on it at draft time that was a good read. We're looking at a similar decline at DE, and they had to spend via UFA to address it at CB as well.
They must draft better, just to get the arrow pointing up in terms of the talent pipeline.
to see the team give Washington a legitimate shot.
Can't be worse than just keeping him on the bench for the majority of snaps.
Totally agree. The argument against that is that Washington doesn't play Cruz's position, but I'd get him on the field anyway, at least in four WR sets.
Depth is getting shot with injuries. If we get hit with anymore injuries, especially one of the vets were are in serioius trouble. If your going to make a move, do it now before it's too late.
is such a non factor. These guys are professionals, he will learn the playbook. We don't run a super complicated offense anymore.
Williams has shown he's anything but a professional, and even if he was, we've had far too many "miscommunication" INTs because Eli and the WR were not on the same page. If you want to trade the McManus pick for him, fine, but we should really just roll with what we've got. Parker can take over in the slot. Get Washington some more reps in 4 WR sets. Sure, he could be Ramses Barden 2.0 as someone said, but it's way too early to make that judgment, and nobody here was saying that while he was lighting it up a la Cruz in the preseason.
first three seasons rival any Giants first three season I can recall. Similar to Hakeem Nicks first three seasons.
I didn't hear a thing about him until the Schiano years, when they also traded Aqib Talib, Josh Freeman went off the rails, and Doug Martin went from super rookie to bench warmer among other issues.
I'd give Williams a clean slate, let TC do his job and coach him.
Corey Washington was a UDFA signed after being cut by AZ. Beside the body type, where is there any comparison?
raw, projects, supposed red zone targets, can't separate, can't play specials, yeah I guess you're right they're completely dissimilar. In fact the draft vs. un-drafted is really the only dissimilarity.
best bet is giving up a 5th with conditions that could go up to a 3rd. Goes up to a 4th based on amount of snaps he takes this year. 3rd if he's on the roster after game 1 next year. I don't know if he's worth that, but the Bills sound to at least be playing hardball through the media claiming they want a 1st rounder. This of course is bullshit, they know he's not worth that. I think conditions need to be added her to sweeten the deal.
The deal with Mike Williams is supposed character concerns, which don't play well with the Giants. His upside is that he's had to 2 good seasons in 5 years and all of them have been with terrible QBs outside of one decent year by Freeman.
This reeks of desperation though. I trust Reese will not do some stupid deal.
Maybe I'm wrong but hasn't this guy been a bust on every team he
You can be a lot of things in the NFL - drug addict, wife beater, 'anonymous source' - but it seems there's nothing worse than a quitter.
I'd still give up a low pick, but like I mentioned earlier - the guy said he thinks he's a #1 in the league and demanded a trade. It doesn't quite sound like he's ready to accept a part time role in an offense, or that he's ready to accept his part in his downfall thus far. Even with a slew of circumstances to explain away why he's at the point in his career where he's a healthy scratch for a DT to play on specials, he's still at least partly to blame and it seems like he might not accept that just yet.
How do we know he can't seperate, he hasn't played.
He's not a 4.3 guy and has to learn the pro game, especially coming from a small school, where he could dominate based on his body size. To call him Ramses Barden 2.0 6 games into his rookie year, where he's basically had no snaps is jumping the gun in a big way.
Yeah, he said he's a #1, but that's not why he's asking
to be traded. He wants a trade because he's not even suiting up. I'll trust the Giants to do their due diligence, but I doubt Williams is going to be the answer.
I said it could be wrong. These tall UDFA WR's that bounce around on PS are attractive because of their size and potential but in most cases probably don't pan out.
RE: Maybe I'm wrong but hasn't this guy been a bust on every team he
played for? He was a high draft choice who hasn't don't a thing, why would we want him.
You're thinking of Mike Williams from USC who was a 1st round pick and a bust. This is Mike Williams from Syracuse 4th round pick who had over 20 td's in his first 3 seasons.
or a player with something to prove? Bring him in and work him out and find out
Since he's under contract, you can't just bring him in and work him out. They'll have to do their due diligence in other ways, like reaching out to Mike Sullivan and get his thoughts.
this guy needs a new agent (right after Giants redo his contract, of course). Who signs a deal like that? high dollar amount, but 0 liability if the team cuts him. Looks like no signing bonus. That's a recipe for never seeing those dollars.
Over the Cap has a new format which lists base salary as guaranteed for every year. I checked Eli, and per OTC his salary next year is 'guaranteed', which is not true. perhaps they mean since he's vested, if he's on the team for the opening game, his salary is guaranteed. That part should be a given. I'd rather know what is truly guaranteed by contract, not by league rules.
this is Mike Williams from Syracuse who walked away from his senior year. Mike williams who would not resign with TB, and Mike Williams who now is demanding a trade.
Look at his numbers, but realize that this is a guy who quickly leaves any situation he's in. Like I said above - for this year - fine, kick the tires, but let's not expect commitment or hard work to come from him.
as in Giants management thinks they have a legit shot to do something big this year notwithstanding the display of football we all saw on Sunday night.
"I said, 'We like Mike Williams. We expect him back and we expect big things from him,'" [Bills' GM] Whaley said. "But like anybody, if he gets us compensation worthy of a No. 1 wide receiver -- which he claimed he is -- then we would entertain it."
"The Giants are not interested in giving up a draft pick and paying Williams a hefty salary, a person familiar with the situation told NJ.com. Williams is making over $1 million this year and guaranteed more than $5 million in 2015..."
Is on the Pats PS he present decent size 5-11 205 and very good speed for the slot position. He has more tools to work with than anyone on our roster in the slot presently.
Mike is far from the smartest kid in football, but he's not a bad kid.
You never know, what's happened in Tampa and Buffalo might just motivate him. He has to know he doesn't have that many chances left to stick in the league. If that doesn't make him work hard than he's just a moron.

he may even be better than r.randle
sure it's week 6 now. we could still finish 13-3. u gotta try to improve the team if u can
Yeah, I was wondering who the "vets" were. It's "vet" and he allegedly still has communication issues with Eli.
After that there is a rookie, a journeyman, and and two UDFA's.
the cupboard is bare.
The fact that people's knees seem to keep coming apart sure as hell doesn't help.

if it doesn't cost too much.
Not much risk - like the Beason trade.

That's a bit dramatic... Don't you think?

Some posters on here on beyond pathetic.

Probably, but is there a long history of UDFA WR's from DII Newberry College making it to the NFL? Odds are against him.

They show very clearly Eli could be cut with very little dead money (only pro-rated bonuses).
The guaranteed portion of the contract is displayed underneath the contract amount in italics.
And Mike Williams signed a 6 year 40M deal with 15M guaranteed with the Bucs in 2013. he was traded and his guarantees don't go away.
But then he signed a new deal with the Bills that gave him more guaranteed money.
I don't think he needs a new agent.
He's the kind of guy that you keep waiting for him to grow up.
My theory is that you'll still be waiting for that when he's dead.

Sounds like a coach killer to me.

Yeah, just ask Randle. Another mental gem from LSU.
