just don't see what he's going to add this year. He doesn't know the playbook. I also wouldn't want him at all because of his past problems. We are supposed to be getting away from players like him.
but it's not just the depth that's shot, it's the position.
Randle, Beckham, and Parker are not a legit trio of WR's.
I won't pretend to know more than the coaches/GM's (or maybe I am), but for a team that needs to be able to pass to move the chains that's not going to get it done.
We're one more injury away from signing people off the street anyway
so familiarity with the playbook isn't really a concern.
As for his behavior - just like Marvin Austin, it could be that he needs one final kick in the ass to set him straight. If done for a low draft pick, then the only thing you've risked is someone who'd likely pan out to be a PS squad player next year anyway.
to over the cap, he (Mike Williams) is guaranteed ZERO after this year. I trust them more than rotoworld.
Rotoworld looks correct here.

it's not time to give up on the season and IMO rolling out those three WR's and add in Corey Washington and Julian Talley is waving a white flag practically.
I don't know if Mike Williams can learn a playbook or not or if he's the right player to acquire, but I feel like doing nothing is being complacent.
I don't think the Giants should give up a lot for a WR, but I don't think they have to.
1) Reese's stock answer when asked about any player is that they look into everything that is available. Whether they act or not is a totally different question...however
2) As we saw last year with Beason, if the Giants see an obvious upgrade at a low cost, particularly at an area of need, he will pull the trigger
3) With the McManus trade to Denver, Reese has an extra 7th round pick to play with. So that would free up a low draft pick for a guy who can help out this year
4) Sullivan coached him at Tampa. You wonder if the Giants would give him a call to get his input
It's not guaranteed by whomever acquires him, so you can always renegotiate or cut him. If he does a great job, then you work with him to extend him. If not, you're out a low round draft pick.
This would be a good test of another theory - that Gilbride's offense was too complicated to pick up for someone coming off the bench (or off the street). I don't think Williams would pay off immediate returns, but if McAdoo's offense is easier for WRs to pick up, you'd think he'd be able to start paying dividends within a few weeks, especially with a bye coming up.
The guy has failed at commitment at each level of play and continues to walk away when things go South. If he were a Giant this year, he'd have quit this Monday.
I'm not crazy about the idea because we're already in Week 6 and I wonder what kind of impact he'd have and whether that potential impact is worth giving up a draft pick? I guess if they're going to make a move, with the Bye coming up, now would be the time to do it.
I also believe in Eli's ability to make the players, in particular the WRs, better. I think if given time by his O-line that Eli would be fine with a WR unit of Randle, OBJ, Parker, Washington and Talley. I do see some people's point though about what would happen if we lose one of them as well to injury though.
That all said, if the Giants think that trading for him is the best move, I'll trust their judgement.
We don't need this, and it isn't our style to make this trade out of desperation.
The nature of the system, Eli's ability to scan the field, find open guys, and spread the ball around... As well as the emergence of Beckum and Donnell... We still have weapons.
Short term, though - the guys on the roster are going to get a shot
The problem is we've exhausted all our depth. Getting Williams puts another body on the bench should someone else get hurt and possibly someone who might be useful getting starting reps.
This of course requires that Williams understands that he's not actually a #1, not right off the bat at least. Seeing as that's why he wants out of Buffalo, that might not be a trivial matter.
The player's failures with commitment suggest he won't change in this regard.
We do need a WR, depth is shot and logically we're more than one wideout down, given CW's route set and overall skillset are very raw. He's not shown anything in the short or intermediate routes where his size and length are less helpful than downfield on the boundary out of traffic.
Hopefully I'm wrong and Julian Talley scored 17 TDs in one season for the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena League, and I feel like that's going to be his professional football peak.
I'd love to be wrong here and we'll find out soon enough.
this stretch of the schedule will make or break the season:
Dallas
bye
Colts
@Seahawks
SF
Dallas
5 losable game. If the Giants wake up on Monday 11/24 at 3 - 8 I wouldn't be shocked.
And I don't think I'm being a pessimist, looking at the season as a whole losing all 5 of those games would not surprise me.
of course if they went 3 - 2 I'd also not be surprised.
Just saying those games are all easily losable IMO.
If the Bills wanted Nassib for Williams, would you consider it? It may be an option. He already knows the Bills Offense and he has to be better than EJ Manuel. We would need to bring back Painter or sign another back up. I woouldn't do it, but Bills might.
Williams is on the block, but I'd prefer if we make a trade to take a veteran who would step in. As much as I think Greg Jennings is shot, There are a lot of people at the end of their careers who would be able to step in better at probably the same cost.
It's a big problem that's come home to roost. Colin@gbn posted a lengthy opinion on it at draft time that was a good read. We're looking at a similar decline at DE, and they had to spend via UFA to address it at CB as well.
They must draft better, just to get the arrow pointing up in terms of the talent pipeline.
to see the team give Washington a legitimate shot.
Can't be worse than just keeping him on the bench for the majority of snaps.
Totally agree. The argument against that is that Washington doesn't play Cruz's position, but I'd get him on the field anyway, at least in four WR sets.
Depth is getting shot with injuries. If we get hit with anymore injuries, especially one of the vets were are in serioius trouble. If your going to make a move, do it now before it's too late.
is such a non factor. These guys are professionals, he will learn the playbook. We don't run a super complicated offense anymore.
Williams has shown he's anything but a professional, and even if he was, we've had far too many "miscommunication" INTs because Eli and the WR were not on the same page. If you want to trade the McManus pick for him, fine, but we should really just roll with what we've got. Parker can take over in the slot. Get Washington some more reps in 4 WR sets. Sure, he could be Ramses Barden 2.0 as someone said, but it's way too early to make that judgment, and nobody here was saying that while he was lighting it up a la Cruz in the preseason.
first three seasons rival any Giants first three season I can recall. Similar to Hakeem Nicks first three seasons.
I didn't hear a thing about him until the Schiano years, when they also traded Aqib Talib, Josh Freeman went off the rails, and Doug Martin went from super rookie to bench warmer among other issues.
I'd give Williams a clean slate, let TC do his job and coach him.
Corey Washington was a UDFA signed after being cut by AZ. Beside the body type, where is there any comparison?
raw, projects, supposed red zone targets, can't separate, can't play specials, yeah I guess you're right they're completely dissimilar. In fact the draft vs. un-drafted is really the only dissimilarity.
best bet is giving up a 5th with conditions that could go up to a 3rd. Goes up to a 4th based on amount of snaps he takes this year. 3rd if he's on the roster after game 1 next year. I don't know if he's worth that, but the Bills sound to at least be playing hardball through the media claiming they want a 1st rounder. This of course is bullshit, they know he's not worth that. I think conditions need to be added her to sweeten the deal.
The deal with Mike Williams is supposed character concerns, which don't play well with the Giants. His upside is that he's had to 2 good seasons in 5 years and all of them have been with terrible QBs outside of one decent year by Freeman.
This reeks of desperation though. I trust Reese will not do some stupid deal.
Maybe I'm wrong but hasn't this guy been a bust on every team he
You can be a lot of things in the NFL - drug addict, wife beater, 'anonymous source' - but it seems there's nothing worse than a quitter.
I'd still give up a low pick, but like I mentioned earlier - the guy said he thinks he's a #1 in the league and demanded a trade. It doesn't quite sound like he's ready to accept a part time role in an offense, or that he's ready to accept his part in his downfall thus far. Even with a slew of circumstances to explain away why he's at the point in his career where he's a healthy scratch for a DT to play on specials, he's still at least partly to blame and it seems like he might not accept that just yet.
How do we know he can't seperate, he hasn't played.
He's not a 4.3 guy and has to learn the pro game, especially coming from a small school, where he could dominate based on his body size. To call him Ramses Barden 2.0 6 games into his rookie year, where he's basically had no snaps is jumping the gun in a big way.
Yeah, he said he's a #1, but that's not why he's asking
to be traded. He wants a trade because he's not even suiting up. I'll trust the Giants to do their due diligence, but I doubt Williams is going to be the answer.
I said it could be wrong. These tall UDFA WR's that bounce around on PS are attractive because of their size and potential but in most cases probably don't pan out.
It will require TC/McAdoo to motivate him,but the talent is there.

Couldn't agree more.

Worth watching for a low cost return.

We took Nassib to develop behind Eli and either trade him for a profit or be a fall back option should Eli get hurt.
They must draft better, just to get the arrow pointing up in terms of the talent pipeline.

he may even be better than r.randle
sure it's week 6 now. we could still finish 13-3. u gotta try to improve the team if u can
Yeah, I was wondering who the "vets" were. It's "vet" and he allegedly still has communication issues with Eli.
After that there is a rookie, a journeyman, and and two UDFA's.
the cupboard is bare.
The fact that people's knees seem to keep coming apart sure as hell doesn't help.
