I still believe the giants are making a mistake

scott in albany : 10/14/2014 1:29 pm
not playing richburg at center. In my opinion he is a future pro bowl center. Walton does not impress me at all.

Put richburg at center and bench walton. He is a good back up. Find someone else to play guard.

Richburg is the type of player you build a offensive line around. Richburg was one of the few players who i saw last week who put up a fight.

I also think the giants should never ever give JPP a long term, expensive contract. I have been telling everyone since his rookie year JPP takes plays off. He has talent no doubt but i don't think he is worth big money.

One more thing, I still want reese fired. Too many bad picks. He does not understand you can not under value any position in the NFL.

Great solution! Why didn't anyone else think of that? You're a genius!
I don't think they are basing Richburg's position at Guard
Curtis in VA : 10/14/2014 1:32 pm : link
on Richburg alone.

All through training camp, they were looking for the best combination of talent along the line. Richburg may be better at Center but perhaps they feel that Walton at Center with Richburg at Guard would be better than Richburg at Center and someone else at Guard.

Problem is, who is that someone else?
David in LA : 10/14/2014 1:33 pm : link
Richburg is the only quality player inside. When Schwartz comes back he will slide into Jerry's spot. Jerry has been adequate some games, and pretty woeful in other spots. You really want to roll the dice with Mosley at G?

And just what uniform number does "someone else" wear? Call for benching a starter and not have a clue on who is going to take his place. And it's Reese that should be fired. Doh!
I agree with the OP
CMicks3110 : 10/14/2014 1:35 pm : link
I don't like Walton at all, small, weak, not quick. I rather Richburg at Center, and put Schwartz at LG
No argument here...I have been
MikeN in Ottawa : 10/14/2014 1:37 pm : link
saying that for weeks. Frankly, I am not even sure Walton is a good backup. He is terrible at the POA...constantly gets pushed into the backfield. He is awful.

If Schwartz is back after the break I think they do make this move. I am even starting to think Justin Pugh belongs at guard.

Well Schwartz is hurt.
Duly noted.

They want their best best playing

with the roster as is, that means Walton at C. Be grateful Richburg is playing at all. Perhaps when GS returns they'll reconsider.

Put richburg at center. Period. If the giants lose next week the season is pretty much over. What are they waiting for?
Schwartz isn't eligible...

"No excuses!"
Yes

we do.

Chris in Philly : 10/14/2014 1:48 pm : link
All right, soldier, let's see how you fire that mortar.

What coordinates, sir?

Coordinates?

Yes, sir, they determine where the mortar's...

Soldier, the army has spent a lot of money teaching you to fire that thing. Now set it and fire it.

Sir, we don't know where the shell's gonna...

Soldier, the only way to learn anything is to do it. Now fire the weapon.

Where's your drill instructor?

BLOWN UP, SIR!!
we'll use the schwartz
RasputinPrime : 10/14/2014 1:49 pm : link
which will mean Richburg at center. Just have to give it time. We aren't in a big enough tailspin yet.
So, apparently scott = Norman Dale?

I was waiting for this guy to post this thread after one bad week. Conveniently disappeared the prior 3. But here we are again.

It was a dumb idea then, it's a dumb idea now.
If richburg got hurt
scott in albany : 10/14/2014 1:51 pm : link
i guess the giants would play 4 offensive linemen. Sorry we have no one to play guard.LOL
The problem as I see it
Matt M. : 10/14/2014 1:53 pm : link
Is that it is unclear who the best options, other than Richburg, are at OG. Schwartz, for all the talk, was not looking good this summer before getting hurt. Jerry was an afterthought, except for depth, when he was signed. He has been very inconsistent. Moseley, I thought, showed enough last year to get a look this year. However, he sucked this summer also.

I agree that Richburg should ultimately end up at OC. But, right now, I'm not sure that is the overall best move. What I am not happy about is being committed to Walton and Richburg moving forward.
Fixed.

Scott, I'm fairly certain that the reason the current guys are startin
David in LA : 10/14/2014 1:54 pm : link
is because the guys on the bench are actually worse than them. You're not coming up with some groundbreaking solution, we went with a lot of different combos this offseason. Gee - you think there might be a reason why Brewer and Mosley aren't getting snaps? Could be that the coaches actually watch these guys in practice and judge them accordingly - you know, doing their jobs.
you forgot a random number, vibe

That's the best you can do? I mean, if you're not going to even bother to be responsive, what's the point of posting?
scott, we do.
Randy in CT : 10/14/2014 1:54 pm : link
But unlike you, the Giants aren't game-planning with this idea that you can just "stick anyone in there". They are actually trying to balance having their best 5 out there, with 5 players who can actually play the exact position.

It's almost as if football is complicated and you can't do just one thing to fix everything. weird. That.
Guys, give Scott some credit
David in LA : 10/14/2014 1:59 pm : link
he obviously fired up Madden and stumbled upon this "brilliant" solution to our problems.
It's funny
scott in albany : 10/14/2014 1:59 pm : link
I thought i was going to get blasted for my opinion on JPP or Reese, not Richburg.
Shoot,
Doomster : 10/14/2014 2:01 pm : link
didn't I read on this board that Reese had solved the OL problems?
who are you to question our coaching staff?
SHO'NUFF : 10/14/2014 2:04 pm : link
this same staff that let Diehl play 2 years after his expiration date... the same staff that brought O'Hara back fresh from injury to replace a highly effective Kevin Boothe, thus derailing our 2010 season...
Questioning the staff is fine.
vibe4giants : 10/14/2014 2:07 pm : link
Thinking 'find someone else' is the answer six weeks into the season is the problem here.

That is what I would do as well, Jerry needs to be a backup guard, and Walton needs to seriously not play. Walton did have one very good game this year, the other 5 have been sub par at best
I think Scott is right about Richburg. C is his natural position. Also
Victor in CT : 10/14/2014 2:11 pm : link
Center is more important than Guard. And Walton stinks.

That said, I don't think they can realistically do it until the bye week if Schwartz is cleared to play. I would also play Schwartz at his natural RG. Play Mosely at LG if he is healthy.

Well, the problem goes beyond center this past week
Giants2012 : 10/14/2014 2:39 pm : link
Pugh - annihilated

Jerry - gosh, I mean really? How does a fat ass move out of the way so quickly?

Walton - if his body language could speak it would say "HELP!!!!"

Richburg - attacking Fletcher on the ground was a start

Beatty - just waiting for a hang nail or his eye rolls out of his head from a defender poking him

Looks like we fixed the OL. Yup, bring on Dallas. Here we come

Good Lord
