Why is it always extremes around here?

ThatLimerickGuy : 10/14/2014 8:15 pm
When we win I read about how we can compete with anyone in the league and when we lose we are an embarrassment to the NFL.

This is the new nfl. There aren't going to be many 14-2 or 13-3 teams in the League anymore.

It gets tired around here when there is a collective bipolar overreaction every week.

When we win it's about how donnell is the next jimmy graham and how we are going to be 13-3 and not 7 days later people are talking about firing a head coach.

Maybe we are just a middle of the road team like 28 of the 32 teams in the nfl capable of blowing out division rivals at home and getting blown out at a division rivals stadium.

I'm all about making suggestions and discussing things that we believe should be done but it's so feast or famine around here that it gets weird.

Good observation.

emotions go with the teritory. And we are a middle of the road team still learning a new O and with one of our main weapons gone for the season. 7-9.
Because we've got reason for hope given our past SBs
chris r : 10/14/2014 8:22 pm : link
With Eli and Tom but also reason for despair with so many debacles the past two season. Both optimism and pessimism are reasonable for this team IMO.
I agree
ThatLimerickGuy : 10/14/2014 8:25 pm : link
But it's ok to be optimistic and pessimistic without going back and forth between 0 and 100 at the drop of a hat
BBI does nothing collectively.
shepherdsam : 10/14/2014 8:26 pm : link
Why is it so difficult for some to understand there are a lot of people on here?
We're you not excited after the three game streak?
chris r : 10/14/2014 8:27 pm : link
We're you not crushed after getting shutout and generally brutalized by a division rival AND losing our best offensive weapon in the process?

I really don't se how any fan could be stoic throw that.
Or even spell through

It was the nature of the loss
JFIB : 10/14/2014 8:30 pm : link
Not just the fact that we were beaten. It's really not hard to understand why everyone's reaction is so extreme. We weren't even remotely competitive in the loss to Philly. A total embarrassment. A poor enough showing that it is causing doubt amongst many BBI'ers about this teams ability to make a showing in the rest of our games. After last years depressing season and this seasons seemingly false hope, it's very difficult to be optimistic about the rest of the season.
Weird?
Rocky Thompson : 10/14/2014 8:36 pm : link

How bout laughable?

Listen to Shep, the funniest man on BBI, it's not collective, it's a collection of a whole lot of Giant fans.

Worse place to watch a Giants game, is with a whole lot of Giant fans.

There's maybe 25 posters that know what they are talking about, 12 of them don't post anymore. Gather the information that's useful, ignore the rest and start an interesting NFT...

It is easy to understand the giants fans extremes
ANGPASS : 10/14/2014 11:02 pm : link
when they win, it is in dramatic or killer form and when they lose it is a complete disaster. This team has a lot of potential and when they win, we think it is coming together and when they lose we panic because we worry we are not as good as we thought. Everyone does it. it is the beauty in it. otherwise, what is the point? who watches sports with a straight face regardless or win or loss? ...besides eli...
I gotta admit...

There once was a team from New Jersey
who'd make rivals beg out for mercy
These games they would win
Thank you Eli and Coughlin
we'll see you two in Canton, surely.

There once was a team called the GIants
as reliable as an old appliance
you'd think they were stout
then they'd get shut out
and look like '08 Lions
I feel whole...

This team has been so up and down
blueblood'11 : 10/15/2014 7:15 am : link
and as a result I think it shapes peoples opinions on the team. The thing that bothers me most at times is the game planning. On the offense Eli was under center a lot in this game. It seemed McAdoo was reluctant to go five wide with Eli in the gun and spread out the defense. The Eagles kept eight men up tight all night and they just seemed to play right into it.

As for Fewell's gem of a game plan what a mess. Carl Banks talked on his radio spot about them being undisciplned throughout the game. If that was the case wouldn't you think Fewell could see that and make the correction. And If you look at the Eagle defensive game plan it really played havoc on the Giant offense. They were willing to do things differently to screw the offense up.

When do you ever see Fewell have a game plan like that. When his defenses are being had it's like a snowball going down hill and he is never able to stop it. It's the hallmark of his tenure as DC. I don't know how he is still employed by the Giants.

THIS ^^^
I don't see why this is so hard to understand. We all lament a loss, but this went way beyond your garden variety loss. It was such an embarrassment of ineptitude that it results in reasonable concern about what it potends for the rest of the season. Of course a win in Dallas will change that perspective ... it should. It would mean that this was an aberration, not that BBI is bi-polar. But that won't keep our arm chair psychologists from their pronouncements.

FatMan in Charlotte : 10/15/2014 7:26 am : link
because it is a fan site. Most fans either expect to win or resign themselves to defeat. The people who post don't tend to be guys who are like "Meh, maybe we'll do OK".

Thus, you get posts that either completely dismiss the teams chances to win and when a win happens, it is only because the other team fucked up, was playing a backup QB, or some other lame excuse.

Meanwhile, you get posts that think the Giants are going to win every week, and when they don't, it wasn't because we played a better team, but because we fucked up, either with bad coaching, bad drafting, or bad players.

I wish more people would realize that other teams sometimes make plays. I remember a game a few years back where a Redskins TE made a spectacular catch. The ball was snatched out of the air with an awesome effort. Did people post that it was a great catch? No. They bitched about the slow ass LB covering him. They bitched about Fewell's scheme that allowed the TE's free reign. They bitched about Coughlin continuing to keep Fewell around.
Abandon all hope...

But, I think the nature of the last loss, to some (Like me)says that championship teams, Playoff teams don't lose games like that, that way.Rolle made it a point to say it was basically a lay down. he didn't use those words, but that's what he said. When a team does that, has a loss like that at any point in it's season, I dont expect them to do anything. They can improve, they can get better, they can solve problems and build for the future, but the basic character of a team doesn't change within season that drastically. This was more the team that went 0-2, and some miniscule percentage of 0-2 teams ever make the playoffs. we did it and won a superbowl, but I'm willing to bet that's the last time in any of our lives we'll see this team do that.the laws of probability dictate that happens once every 26 years, and to the same team twice?25 times 32 and see how likely it is to happen again, randomly.I feel the same way I did last year after the 6th game.I just don't think this team is going anywhere this year with all the injuries.the personnel has basically gone through a blender.I'll watch, I'll root, but I just feel kinda blah about the season right now.Maybe I'll be singing a different tune in a month, but I'm usually pretty positive.it's an 8-8 team to me, whether it's 7-9 or 9-7, it's in that ballpark.Nothing is substantially different that what expectations were preseason. So yeah, we probably shouldn't be so up and down Manic.

What bothers me is I thought TC had done a fantastic job coaching this year, until Sunday.Sunday makes me rethink a lot of things. It's not a run of the mill loss.Trying not to over react but after Sunday I don't feel optomistic about this year anymore, I think a lot of people feel that way, after having so much optimism leading up to the game.

I've seen few, if any, more demoralizing losses, all things considered. Luckily it didn't kill the season, but that showing was pathetic.

telling people on here how to express their opinion. What makes those people "in the know"? They agree with you? Seems like in a 16 game season a win is extreme and a loss is extreme. As is our reactions. To those who do express their opinions, do not let guys like this sway you from doing so.

the one game trend. There are so few games in a season that each game is significant. But if you think this is bad, wade through the off-season and training camp where fortunes and outlooks turn at the speed of a tweet.

I like to look ahead to the next game. If a different outcome in the next game is likely to sway your opinion of the team right back again, then maybe things aren't as bleak as one is tempted to feel at the moment.

I thought there were a wide range of realistic outcomes on this season to begin with (more so than any other in recent memory), and each incremental data point (game) moves us towards one extreme or the other.

Going into the season, I thought we'd be a six to nine win team - a wide range to begin with, and I thought the floor could be lower. After week 2, I really thought this was a four win team - an average football team should have beaten the Cards that day (they were missing four or five defenders and had a backup QB). After the win streak, we played well enough that ten would be realistic. After getting demolished by a good team in the Eagles, I'm starting to think seven or eight wins is the likely scenario on the season. Win this week and that may move up.

We haven't beat a quality team (with their starting QB) in quite some time. The next five games will be interesting. Win two and we have a shot at the playoffs. Win three and I think we have a really good shot given our late November/December schedule.

Point being: I think there's reasons behind some of the extremes we see this year. Of course, some (most?) are just being idiots.

Exactly. If they aren't emotionally involved then they wouldn't be fans would they? Fan - short for fanatic. You expect fanatics to be middle of the road sort of people?
