Weeks into its air campaign against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, the Pentagon has announced a name for the operation: "Inherent Resolve." The final decision was made by the staff of Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said his spokesman, Col. Ed Thomas. Thomas offered no details about the process. But "Inherent Resolve" is less dramatic than previous names for Iraq operations, such as "Desert Shield," ''Desert Storm," or "Desert Fox" and appears to convey the no-drama approach that marks President Barack Obama's style. Military operations are routinely given official names, in part for administrative reasons. They usually are meant also to bolster public support and international credibility. The U.S.-led effort to protect Kurds who fled their homes in northern Iraq in the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf War, for example, was called Operation Provide Comfort. The U.S. military's effort against the spread of the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa is called Operation United Assistance. The naming of the current air campaign in Iraq and Syria comes as President Barack Obama wrestles with directing a coalition of partner nations toward a common goal: ultimately destroying the Islamic State group. The U.S. has more than 1,400 military personnel in Iraq, mostly in Baghdad, as part of the campaign against the Islamic State group, but Obama has ruled out sending combat troops. The U.S. says it has no troops in Syria. |
Operation we fucked up and will throw more money down the toilet dropping bombs to try to fix our fuck up.

That's too long...won't fit on to many plaques that will surely be made later.
LOL. I like this one a lot more.
Poor military, led by the most incompetant CIF ever!
I hope this is the one that pays for itself.
Overlord

...Inherent Resolve?
To paraphrase Longshanks, that should only encourage the enemy to invade the whole country.
Yeah, cause W. had nothing to do with creating this mess in the first place. What was that sign he was holding on the ship? Mission Accomplished? When his own father wrote a book about the very practical reasons that he didn't drive Hussein from power, and what the consequences would be if that happened...all the things we've seen in the intervening years. A long term occupation, a lack of a cohesive sense of a nation-state and resulting internal civil war, opening the region to terrorists, etc.
But it's all Obama's fault.
