NFT: Roku sound issues

Jints in Carolina : 10/15/2014 3:13 pm
My folks have an older HDTV which is component cable. They hooked up the Roku to the TV and are able to get a picture but no sound. They told me they have the audio component cables plugged in where they should be (who knows).

Any ideas as to why they aren't getting sound?
could be a bad HDMI cable right?

maybe?
It's not an HDMI cable.

Have them go to Settings

And then Audio and check the audio settings. It might be on the surround sound setting instead of standard.
they said they have the compnent audio cables hooked up right

Are they sure they have the seperate audio cables hooked up and not just the 3 video cables?

I've had a few problems since I installed mine about four months ago. I get online and set up a chat and have had all the issues fixed

When used with the A/V cables, and not HDMI, the Roku only has a single Video output channel (yellow coded), and separate Left and Right audio channels (Red & White connectors). It is not a RGB composite device.
so i need RGB to component?

cables could mean composite cables, Yellow for video, White/Red- (LR) for audio.

If they are using RGB or component those are strickly video..you will need a white/red audio cable.

My wife's mom once tried to change the channel on the cable box with the cordless phone so anything is possible.

You need to go over there.
