I’m currently taking classes in college and working part-time. I got classes all day on Tuesday and Thursday as I do have work literally all day Wednesday and Friday. I sometimes do work on Monday’s but usually that day is a clear slate for me. I make enough from those 2-3 days a week to hang my hat on for the week and school keeps me pretty busy outside of school.
I’ll admit that I hate working and going to school in comparison to being at home with family, going to the gym, playing PlayStation, watching sports etc., on my own free time. It’s night and day. Now, the other day, before I looked at the calendar I said “Oh, my Verizon bill is due in 2 weeks” and then I looked at the calendar and it was the 14th, the bill was due that day. I’m like whoa, where the F did all that time go? I can’t remember anytime where I cared about the date (I always write fake date son my paper to make it look like I did them earlier) throughout the last two weeks and thought it was October 3rd.
I feel that me pushing along the week to get to get to the weekend and not paying attention to what time of day it is makes the days go by quicker, which leads to weeks. I also feel like I can sit at home, accomplish nothing, wake up at 9 a.m. and the next time I look at the clock it’s 1:35 in the morning. I have no problem with going out, going to school/work and being social but I feel like it is a double-edged sword because when I get home I become a different person and I like it so much better. Some people say they “always have to be doing something and be out” and I’m the complete reverse.
Also, my business closes for 3 weeks for Christmas break in December/January. I do like being active, but if I had a choice, I would spend all day staying at home 24/7 and reading BBI threads. I’m not going to lie again, watching Giants games and spending all day watching NFL is my highlight of the week. I even make sure all of those “chores” like mowing the lawn are done so my girlfriend has nothing to complain about.
What is your week pace like in regards to work and what not? And is it customary to your liking? What would you change if you could?

The weekend is my respite. Almost makes me feel like I'm in control of my life for 48 hours.
I'd love to love my job and maybe one day I will do something that I love. But right now i'm alright dealing with it just being OK as long as I can still have my other comforts in life. That's generally my mindset week to week.
The job is key. Not just the job but the subsidiary benefits. If you have a job that is "meh" but you are meeting lots of women through it, that makes a big difference. That was my case when I first started my job ten years ago.
Now, it is more routine, and that always sucks.
I have 3 kids so time is flying by at a light speed pace but I try to make the most of it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the life I made for myself. I just can't wait until my little guy is a little older so we can have some real fun together.

This is the best way I've ever heard it explained. You nailed my feelings perfectly. I doubt we're supposed to be cramped up in offices all day doing things that make someone else rich. I know some of you have your own businesses and I envy you all. I know you have a different set of problems but at least you're the one calling the shots.
I've had jobs that I hated for EXACTLY the reason you're talking about. That 9-5 grind sucks. Commuting sucks. Eating lunch with the same 3 dickheads in polos every day sucks. Clock watching sucks. It's all sucky to me. I'm not a schedule guy, I typically work with the ebbs and flows of our business and I appreciate down time I get but I am always thinking about my job because I truly do enjoy it.
The HUGE advantage I have is that I can work from home most days and I do. It's not as formal as the office 9-5 and it is immensely more satisfying that I don't have to sit in traffic, pick out clothes, go to lunch, wait for quitting time and then sit in traffic again. My day starts when I wake up and ends when I go to bed and it's usually work most of the day but the good part is I can take a few hours to unwind here and there and then get back to it. I usually work 10 hours or so but it's broken up into 2, 3 or 4 blocks of hours spread over the entire day. Yesterday I was at it by 0700 and still working at 10:30 last night, but I was able to nap for an hour, and work at my own pace. COB is when I go to bed, so those time crunches aren't 5 or 6 PM which works better for me.
It's not for everyone, I know several work from home people who don't do shit and get paid for it. You have to want to do the work, which I do, so it's not really much of a chore of me. I have the most job satisfaction I've ever had and I'm doing more work wise than I ever have but I have a much bigger window to do my work and the freedom to plan my own day.
I feel like finding a good career for yourself is like finding a good roommate. You probably don't want to live with a complete stranger (or start a career doing something you don't like/have any ability in), and you don't really want to live with your best friend either (i.e. take something you actually love doing and turn it into your everyday occupation). You want a balance between familiarity/ability/interest, and room to grow.
Regarding the whole 9-5 jive, I seriously think our country should extend weekends a day by including Monday, and lengthen the work day by 2 hours (8-6, 9-7, whatever). I think it would only help the economy as people would have more free time to themselves and/or time with their families, resent working and their jobs less, feel more refreshed, thereby work harder, etc. The service industry would probably also see a boom in general but especially because NFL Sundays would become that more more of a weekly event. It's hard to come up with many possible negatives, but I guess I'm biased.
Does anyone actually get anything done on Mondays anyway? I know I rarely do.
Don't work your life away just to make some rich asshole wealthier and give more taxes to Uncle Sam.
8 hours a day most of us are just waiting for 5 or 6pm to roll around so we can just get out of work and go home and have those few hours to ourselves before we have to go to sleep and wake up to do it all over again.
I hate living that way but it's just the world we live in. It's not easy to find a job you love and make enough money to support yourself (and sometimes others, too)
Life is short. Having to rush through such a large portion of each week seems so wrong but it's incredibly difficult to avoid.

I don't know anyone who works only eight hours a day.

The reason it sucks so much is because you spend about 70% of every week wishing time away. One day you wake up and realize an entire decade passed before you had even had a chance to blink.

Probably because you're like 15.
I'm 15. I don't have bills.
I don't live to work. I work to live. I do a good job, I even go above and beyond when needed but I refuse to work 10-11 hour days with little to no reward. And I don't really like when others work longer, insane hours. I get the whole human progress thing but when you work 10 hours, they expect everyone to work 10 hours. I know that some people have little choice but I don't agree with it.
And yes, as stated earlier, someone did fuck up. The 5 day work week is just terrible. I wish more companies would adopt the 4 day work week. 5 days sucks. Traffic is horrible, people are burnt out and the family unit is suffering. Time to wake the fuck up.
I could work from home every single day. But my idiot of an office manager doesn't trust us. Why she cares I have no idea. It's not her money. I honestly think my boss would be cool with it, but he's doesn't like getting involved in the management of the office.
Ok talking about this is pissing me off so I need to stop.
Nice way to run a department---out of fear.
The sad thing is you can monitor people just as effectively from home as in the office.
This. This is exactly why Saturday is the best day of the week. Its the only day you are actually totally free. Mentally and physically.
Yup... I used to feel this way with school too. I hated Sundays.
My sleep schedule was a wreck because I worked until 10 pm or midnight but it was awesome.
Of course having an 11 month old ball of fire that wakes up guns a blazing at 630 a.m. kind of lessens the weekend rest thing...but she's awesome and cute so it's all good.
If you don't have kids and plan on having kids, enjoy your weekends to the fullest. Mainly, enjoy sleeping in.
