The Islanders are going to be tested over the next two games with a road trip to Pitt to follow tonight's game.
I'll be keeping an eye on the Isles related twitter accounts today to see if Calvin de Haan is going to play. If he is activated then someone needs to go to Bridgeport. I'd suspect that would be Reinart. I also wonder if CdH is activited whether they will pair him with Donovan (who he's been practicing with) or if they'll stick with Strait.
The Islanders have an advantage in team speed over SJ I think but are a little undersized. I'm looking forward to it tonight!
Not sure if you noticed, during the Rangers game, Boychuk turned over the puck then skated towards the Rangers player who got the puck and checked him. I liked how he recognized his error and took it out on the opposing player. What a difference between him and MacDonald.
Reinhart is already better than Strait and Donovan, with a high ceiling he has not even come close to reaching.
Just play Reinhart.

I actually disagree a bit. I think Reinhart would really benefit 25+ AHL minutes a night playing with Pulock. The game just looks too fast for him.
Staple tweeted that Viznivsky skated today so he might be ready to return in a week or two. CdH skating today but no word yet on his status tonight.
Less than 300 tickets left on stubhub for the game tonight. I'm not sure if it's a nightly thing, but before the puck drops everybody lights up their phone.. it's a cool thing. Come charged lol
Marbles.. the Reinhart thing depends on Visnovsky. If it's a straight swap : dehaan for Strait.. well, that's one thing. But it's eventually dehaan/viz for Strait and.. ?? It almost has to be Reinhart.
It's better he's a ice time leader in the AHL than an NHL scratch.
Having deHaan in the line up is great. You know that feeling you have when Boychuk and Leddy are on the ice and you know that feeling when Strait is on the ice. Well, deHaan is closer to having the Boychuk/ Leddy feeling.
Leddy/Boychuck
dehaan/hamonic
Hickey/Visnovsky
where does Reinhart play? You want him up here getting experience, but you're banking on someone being injured. Yes, Viz is old but you can't bank on him being hurt.
Donovan is the perfect extra dman.
Maybe I am talking gibberish because I do not know how to deal with depth on defense has some depth, which is a welcome
This is why having depth is so important. In previous years, we'd be forced to have Reinart learn on the job because he didn't have any other options. Now, since we have quality depth, we can let Reinart get some more seasoning and bring him up when injuries occur later in the year, or to replace Viz next season.

We're not used to having actual depth! It's a good problem to have!

Yes it is. I still occasionally pinch myself to make certain I am not dreaming of legitimate NHL roster.
Again, it could just be a simple case of being forgetting what it is like to have real options. I am getting old afterall.
Reinhart
Pulock
Church-Mon
Ness
Pedan
Pelech
Mayfield
let's do lots of THIS tonight:

Of that group, is Ness skating on thin ice?
[quote] I think he's a very good depth dman.. now HE is a great 7th dman.. fits right in.

That was awesome!
I doubt he's on thin ice because he looked relatively good when he came up last year. Played a very sound game and moved the puck. I don't think he's considered a future blueliner for NYI, but good insurance down at the 'port.
One guy I saw play the first two games that shocked me was Pedan. If he can put his game together, that's a gem. He's very physical, very big, has a massive shot and a serious fist.
He's just nasty.
I think this season we're going to have an interesting time at the trade deadline
Need the return of Rush lyrics
From the point of conception
To the moment of Truth
At the point of surrender
To the burden of proof
From the point of ignition
To the final drive
The point of the journey is not to arrive
anything can happen

I chose Ness in the numbers crunch because Pulock, Pedan, Pelech (imagine the entertainment value Butch Goring will give us trying to keep those names straight, but I digress), Reinhart, and Mayfield are locks.
I kept Church because he is younger than Ness.
He just looked so composed when he came up, I'm sure they feel comfortable if they had to bring him up again.
fair enough lol
it's easy to bash him (I do) during the broadcast.. but when you see him in person you quickly remember who he was/is, and what he did for this organization. Talk about an important part of a dynasty.
that's the $.01 question lol

That's awesome. I was half in the bag by 3:30. I heard some people slept in their cars the night before to get prime tailgating spots. Lunatics!
that's the $.01 question lol
I'd rather play him with Donovan (until CdH is ready to move back into the top 4). A 3rd D pairing of Donovan and CdH would give us a pretty sweet puck moving pair at the back end of the D.
that's the $.01 question lol
If Fred Flintstone had his way - both
By the way, I only have a laugh at Goring's expense because of his maloprops. He is an all time Islander, and he was the missing piece to that team. The trade for him in midseason 1980 was a part of Torrey's genuis.
Pair Pedan and Pelech
Pelech/Pulock/Pedan
Pelech/Pulock/Pedan
Put them with Nelson and Nielson or Grabner and Grabovski and it would be one fun line to listen to
Reinhart Will be back soon enough. He definitely looks like he needs to work on things. I'd like to see Donovan get a start over Strait tonight.
what happened to strait? he was good last year
