NFT: Burlington, VT recommendations

pjcas18 : 10/17/2014 2:38 pm
Staying at the Sheraton this weekend. One of my daughters is in the regional New England figure skating championships so were here all weekend. Ate breakfast at a place called the skinny pancake which someone recommended to my wife.

Looking for dinner recommendations and any other convenient attractions we can do in our down time.

Casual is probably best since there will be kids. Thanks in advance.

has some great pizza and draft beer selection.
Leunigs - favorite place in Burlington

good stuff
Leunigs - ( New Window )
Leunigs is a bit upscale for kids IMO

But agree with Flatbread as Zero Gravity Brewery is right there. I would also recommend Farmhouse Tap & Grill as it has the best tap selection on Vermont and very nice food, even a kids menu. enjoy!
Thanks

saw both those places. One of my kids saw the flatbread place and wanted to go there. We will narrow it down. And we're here two nights anyway. How crowded do those places get on weekends when school is in session (like now)

When in Rome, do as the romans. When in Burlington, do as the nut jobs. Check it out online and see if its for you. It's down Pine st.
pjcas18...both will be crowded. Expect everything to be crowded on

Fri/Sat nights. I also recommend enjoying a Heady Topper.
Thank you

More upscale, no kids - love Trattoria Delia. Vermont Brew Pub is nice and as others have said Leunig's. Cool spot for kids is the aqua life museum down near champlain
If you can get downtown

I'd highly recommend it. I'm partial to Pizzeria Verita on St. Paul Street: traditional wood-fired Neopolitan pizza. Also, Bove's is a 50 year-old cheap Italian landmark that Vermonters love.
Verita - ( New Window )
All the landmarks I used to really enjoy...

have been overtaken by newer, presumably better restaurants. Sweetwater's is an institution, it's not great and it wasn't at the time but it's still worth checking out if you don't find better options.
If the weather holds up

Shelburne Museum is really fun. It's a huge property along the lake just south of Burlington with tons of historic relics from an old railroad station to a giant paddleboat from Lake Champlain to impressionist paintings and Remington sculpture. We take our kids there every year for trick or treating.

Lunch at the Bearded Frog in Shelburne while you're there.

And if you want to take the old lady out

for a romantic evening on the town I'd recommend L'Amante on College St. The best Italian in Burlington. Fried cheese-stuffed squash blossoms drizzled in honey. Yeah.
There was like an hour plus wait at

All the recommended places so we went to pascolo which wasn't exactly kid friendly but was excellent. Plus I had three heady toppers. Bold ruler I've seen you post about them before but holy crap they're awesome. My wife had to drive back to the hotel. College town and I didn't want to risk being pulled over with the buzz I had from three 16 oz beers lol.

Thanks again. Tomorrow we'll try and make reservations some where.
We will try and get some of those

Activities in tomorrow Mikey. My daughter skates at 11:30 and that's it for tomorrow.

Handy's for breakfast. Small diner near the water.

Prohibition Pig is south in Waterbury, very good beer selection and good BBQ also.
