Two tackles, never gets near the QB. Give Moore a chance to start.
I love running the ball

But the Giants may have to rethink this run at all costs stuff.

90% on the defense

The offense did OK considering the fact they're down Cruz and Jennings. Defense was a no show
Demps and Hosley are useless...

Who is responsible for them being on this team?

FStubbs : 10/19/2014 7:30 pm : link
We're still so pitifully weak along the lines. Every game this year this team has been at a disadvantage in the trenches. And the back 7 is awful.
looks like we will have plenty of time to evaluate rookies

this season.
wondering about Moore myself
bc4life : 10/19/2014 7:30 pm : link
Kiwi gets some pressure but nowhere near enough.

Giants can beat this team. Safety play sucked - for God's sakes make a play for that 2nd TD to Escobar.

Everyone will be on Dallas sack even more now, but the Giants can beat them.
I blame this game mostly on Coughlin.
Riggies : 10/19/2014 7:30 pm : link
Between the punch-him-in-the-face-worthy run first (not even balanced) game plan for most of the game and just how poorly disciplined pretty much the entire team is, this is just a really badly coached team right now -- even if it's also a team lacking in talent as well.

I've put most of this team's downfall at Reese's door until now (and still will going forward), but Jerry Reese isn't the one getting these guys ready every week, for every game. He's not the one who can't get through to these guys' brains and instill basic fundamentals at this point. That's Tom Coughlin's gig.

Disappointing and not enjoyable.

Dallas mauled us.

4-3 would have felt a lot different with the next 3 games against some of the better teams in the league.

2 weeks to have to watch this defense play Andrew Luck. Yikes.
what is frustrating about our running
mdc1 : 10/19/2014 7:31 pm : link
situation is that we do not
have a competent runner since
Jennings is out. So we double down
on the running with a rookie power runner
with no field vision or allusiveness.

Lots of Murray's yardage
bc4life : 10/19/2014 7:32 pm : link
was from cutbacks and poor LB play. Losing Jenbkins early hurt the team - who else is going to get pressure up the middle?
Going forward...
Reb8thVA : 10/19/2014 7:32 pm : link
Not much reason for optimism without some change. Clearly an infusion of talent and speed is needed as well as toughness. I have no faith in Reese to fix this mess. I have no confidence in Fewell either. I will always respect Coughlin but if an entirenrebuild is in order lets start anew.
Good news is we're only a couple of pieces short.
bceagle05 : 10/19/2014 7:32 pm : link
Couple of offensive linemen, couple of backs, couple of TEs, couple of WRs, couple of defensive linemen, couple of linebackers and a couple of defensive backs.

No playoffs this season. On offense we have Eli, Beckham and a whole lot of questions. Defense is a mess. I haven't been a "Fire Fewell" guy, but we could use a change.
Dallas mauled us
bc4life : 10/19/2014 7:32 pm : link
The game was tied at halftime and within reach before the first Donnell fumble.
What's disappointing
rebel yell : 10/19/2014 7:33 pm : link
is we were desperate and needed a win (a must win said JPP) and we just couldn't hang with them. We're fighting, but we just don't have all the pieces and some injuries at key positions are hurting us.
don't like what I see from Reese
mdc1 : 10/19/2014 7:33 pm : link
but quite honestly what has the organization
done to give him linebackers or dlinetne
that have power and quickness or in the cae of linebackers can actually cover in space?
D got a key turnover
rocco8112 : 10/19/2014 7:33 pm : link
seemed to contain the run for three quarters or so.

But man, this D can not buy a big stop.

LBs are the biggest need

When you lose your best lb, your best corner is dinged up, your 3rd and 4 th corners are out, you cut your safety, your second highest paid ol is out, your best rb and your best wr are out. The season is over as far as making the playoffs. We are 30 mil under the cap without clearing room with Eli. It is important to sign Prince and JPP and other free agents.

They really need to get a couple of free agent lineman...a DE who can put pressure on the QB and a center who won't let the pocket collapse

That's my take away.....no holes to run in, and no pressure on the QB who didn't have an incompletion the entire 2nd half

Plus welcome to the NFL Larry Donnell

at the end of the first half. Tom botched the clock management, and the second half was all Dallas. Not that I'm pinning it on him.

Can we break up the Larry Donnell Fan Club? That night in Washington will probably be his lone career highlight. No tight ends and no linebackers, year after year.
I'm sure nearly everyone here predicted this team to be
Go Terps : 10/19/2014 7:37 pm : link
anywhere between 7-9 and 9-7. So now that we're on the way there, people still freak out. This wasn't a bad effort...no one to really blame for anything. They didn't blow the game...they got beat.

The people blaming Coughlin, Fewell, or anyone else are very stupid and would serve BBI well to never return to the site.
Indy, Seattle, SF and Philly.
RDJR : 10/19/2014 7:37 pm : link
TC says we have to have balance. He's so stubborn. Says we were in no huddle most of the game. Big difference between no huddle and hurry up. Got ornery when asked about it. Reporter backed down.
Donell
bc4life : 10/19/2014 7:38 pm : link
had some ball security issues - but he's a good player. Once they see you cough up the ball - it's like chum in the water. Thinking he is not going to be a pretty decent player is short sighted.
Biggest
AcidTest : 10/19/2014 7:38 pm : link
problem is the lack of team speed on offense and defense, at RB, WR, TE, LB, and S. This problem has existed for years. It's on Reese.

Play calling was unreal. Had to know that Dallas would gang up to stop the run, given our lack of speed at WR and TE, and our marginal OL. So we played right into what they expected, and did so not even with a speed back, but a smash mouth runner who needs a hole to get to the second level to do damage. And we kept doing it, apparently to try and "establish the run." Stupid.

The OL was very bad. Didn't see anyone who played well. Just awful.

On defense, no pressure, and no speed at LB and S killed us.

We also made a shit ton of mistakes.

Agreed.
AS others have mentioned, if you are behind a "better" team in their house in the 4Q, the last thing you should worry about is "balance".
So what if we SHOULD be able to run on Dallas, we had 3Q to prove that we CAN'T. I don't remember any outlet passes to Williams (other than designed screens). When he is in they just gear up to stop the run. (And we can run a screen.)
But all in all, given our state of development, I thought they gave a good effort and I enjoyed the game.
Sad that the defense

The offensive play calling was real, real bad. I bet the Cows will laugh at it when they review the game tape tomorrow.
Coaching
scottyl : 10/19/2014 7:40 pm : link
Fewell and McAdoo played not to lose instead of balls to the wall. Eli had all day to throw yet we continued with one yard and a cloud of dust running attack. And Fewell is clueless. We rarely blitz and have poor blitz schemes when we do. Play of the game....after Dallas penalty 3rd and 6 from inside their 15 Fewell rushes three and gets toasted by Romo. We have no pressure and he rushes three. Gutless.

That can cover the te.another run stopping dt.another safety besides rolle.they also need more oline help and a blocking te.until then this crappy football is what we will continue to see.at least they will be picking high up in the draft.also time for a new coaching staff.
The lines remain the biggest problem

Cold Blooded Assasin : 10/19/2014 7:42 pm : link
on the stubbornness to run the ball with our shitty OL. Saw it last week and again this week. At some point, you have to run less and throw more. As soon as we started throwing the ball to our receivers we scored a much needed TD. Definitely looked like dull old Gillbride's offense without the down the field plays. Beckham is the goods. Have faith they will come back strong after the bye.
Poor LB play on the run

I agree, but Giants didnt help their cause either.

Penalties, TOs, stubborn play calling, miscommunication... etc.

Despite Dallas being a better team, this a game the Giants could have won
DL did not play that bad
bc4life : 10/19/2014 7:45 pm : link
Murray is going to get some yards but the biggest problems were due to invisible LBs.

Thought Bryan was just too much to deal with - no Corner can really shut him down.

Dallas will find a way to f**K their season up, they always do.

last two seasons in post games: making mistakes, miscommunications, etc etc

Don't understand why they can't correct these.
We were just out-classed by Dallas...
M.S. : 10/19/2014 7:47 pm : link
...it's as simple as that.

Romo looked very comfortable in the pocket today.

And Eli did not.

But that's very much part of the talent gap between these two teams.

At the L.O.S we are talking about two very different classes of teams.

Dallas is first class.

The Giants are third class.

Quite noticeable gap between the two teams.

Aikman just said Jason Garrett believes the Cowboys of the 1990s are the blue print for building a great team. Back then the Cowboys had the best OL in the NFL and they won 3 Super Bowls. Since Garrett became the Cowboys head coach they have drafted OL in the first round 3 out of 4 years.

Parcells had a similar philosophy.

I hope the Giants return to the philosophy that says we need to have a great OL.

!!!! If I can predict plays from watching the game on TV, then I think the Cowboys can figure it out as well, and I am no professional coach. Two draws to Hillis at the end of the first half? Are we trying to pad our running stats? Why call a TO with 3 seconds in the first half to give Hillis a draw play? Yea he's a gamebreaker!

Dallas. Finally they seem comfortable with their coaches changes. They also should get props for going OL in the first round 3 times. Now they have thatbOL for Romo. Their RB had talent but is injury prone. Now he is healthy for now and behind that OL isn't doing good things.

They have a HOF TE and very good X. That's a lot of damn things on offense going your way.

Defense I am impressed that they r getting production out of no name players. Maybe it fails? Let's see how things go when more and more tape comes out. I am not impressed with them overall but to get so much out of no name guys is admirable.

Props to them.

We have a ways to go in terms of talent everywhere. That's going to be on Reese and Ross. Maybe for once we can fix this OL. Add a lot more weapons on offense. Defensively , add more talent as well.

We have a ways to go.

stretch234 : 10/19/2014 8:06 pm : link
The same tired thread of LB's. Do people watch this league - there are no LB's.

Rewind to college - there are no LB's

The Giants are not losing because of LB's. They make mistakes that they can not overcome

They took a 14-7 lead and 3rd & 6 Romo completes to Bryant, 3rd and 9 Romo completes to Witten (soft zone). TD - WR gets lost in end zone

Game tied: Giants have 1st & 10 on Dallas 35 (Run, penalty, run)

Dallas 3rd and 6 at own 11 - 44 yard to Dez (mystery zone coverage)

Romo TD to go up 21-14 Bowman on coverage

next Giants possession have 1st & 10 at Dallas 40 - penalty on 1st down and run on 1st and 20

After the fumble, Dallas - 3rd & 8 to Bryant - game over

Anyone see Rolle today

ability to stop the run was unexpected to me. They did a good job.

Our Oline can get away with providing a tiny crease when Jennings is playing. Williams needs a small hole. Our Oline wasn't able to do that except maybe 2-3 times today.

Imagine how freegin' great our offense would be if we had the Cowboy's Oline?
Yeah he threw them all from deep passes

to slants, check downs and found Jason W. Just good when you have time to make plays.

Eli had time or more time this game and he made plays. You need a good OL and guys to make plays and protect the ball.

Agree with the ridiculous insistence on one-yard runs with a cloud of smoke. The opening "drive": 3 one-yard runs into the middle of the Cowboys' defensive line. McAdoo and TC would rather be balanced than score points?

Also, Fewell's bend-and-snap defense was on full display. Get them to third down and rush 3 or maybe 4. The defense was gassed by the 4th quarter.
Not sure why Fewell didn't blitz
mrvax : 10/19/2014 8:12 pm : link
much in the second half. We couldn't stop a single Romo pass so the risk on blitzing was non-existant.

I'd have sent an extra 2 guys to blitz Romo on every passing down. Result would be either you whack 'em or he completes another pass.

Its all pretty simple
Hammer : 10/19/2014 8:16 pm : link
The Giants are just not a very good football team.

They have issues at just about every position. At the positions they solidified during the off season they have suffered debilitating injuries.

This season is going to be up and down. It is going to be good and bad.

They'll be better, just not this year.

Thats it in a nutshell.

Amen.
This game was not as close as it seemed...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 10/19/2014 8:18 pm : link
First, the positives..
The WRs are actually not letting us down as we thought. They are not the problem right now. We got a turnover and actually scored on it. Thank God for the short field. Special teams did not hurt us today and in fact we had one or two nice kick returns. Oh, and we did not get blown out today.

Now for the harsh realities..
O-line is exactly what some of us thought they were before the season began. Richburg is playing well. That's it. Pugh regressed. We cannot run for shit right now even if we had Jennings. I am watching the O-line get pushed backwards, miss guys completely, etc. The number of pre-snap penalties is incredible.

Our defense is still a huge problem for the third year in a row. We got the ball shoved down our throats in the first half, then up our ass in the second. Murray had 100 yards just one minute into the third. After the first quarter, we could not stop them unless they stopped themselves. We get zero pressure on Romo and definitely not on third down when we really need it. Missed tackles constantly. It has become epidemic.

I agree with some of you about the run plays. I am all for running the ball. However, when we can't then why continue to bang your head against that wall? Spread the field and pass until they soften the middle, then run. Throw a few more screen passes too. It was invented years ago.

Eli played well enough to where our losing was not his fault. It was neither a good game or a bad game. However, he left a lot of throws out there that he would like to have back. A few drive killers.

Coaching - WTF? Coughlin...for a discipline guy your team sure as hell is not playing that way. Not saying that I want you gone. BUT you need to fix this shit immediately. The mental mistakes are incredible. Fewell is clueless. Just let Beason call the defense when he comes back. Can't be any worse and he probably has a better feel for it than Fewell.

Can this team get into the playoffs? Sure, we are still in it. However, we are not playing like a playoff team. We do not appear to be mentally tough right now either.

Donnell is our offensive MVP so far this year so I am not getting on him. We probably do not have two of our wins without him. That fumble shit needs to end today and Coughlin better not bench him over it. Not yet anyway.

Reese - These players are playing you right out of a job. You are just lucky to work for a very loyal organization. I am done watching our team with our small corners that are physically mis-matched, our sub par O -line, our one LB we can count on, our under achieving D-line.

But if the defense doesn't learn how to play during the bye and Donnell can't remember how to hold on to the ball, then it will be in short order.

Play-calling by OC and DC can nullify any talent the Giants have. How many one-yard runs did McAdoo call? I thought he was bringing in this "West Coast" offense that would be an aggressive, pass-happy approach. I didn't see it. Also, Fewell is afraid of pressuring the QB. He gave Romo forever to stand back and wait until someone got open.

Eli played well enough to where our losing was not his fault. It was neither a good game or a bad game. However, he left a lot of throws out there that he would like to have back. A few drive killers.

I thought some of the play-calling was very suspect, but in Fewell's defense, it doesn't matter whether he sends the blitz or not. The d-line got no pressure on Romo and the blitzes didn't get home so I'm not sure what else Fewell can do. I am sick of the soft zone shit though. If you're dropping eight (!) into coverage, there shouldn't be any openings.

stretch234 : 10/19/2014 8:36 pm : link
LT - 2nd, LG - 2nd, C - 3rd, RG - 3rd, RT - 1st

Dallas LG is a 7th rd pick, the starting RT today was undrafted, Free is a 4th and their other G was undrafted

Without Jennings they do not have a RB to stretch the field. Dallas sold out for the middle.

When you lose Wilson and then lose Jennings, you lose your quickness at RB
Why did we run the ball so much
jLefty : 10/19/2014 8:40 pm : link
Down the middle play after play. As if we didn't have a passer who could throw the ball . Kept running that same play. Insanity.
This new offense SUCKS
giantsfan227B : 10/19/2014 8:41 pm : link
i am not asking that we bring back Gilbride. He needed to go a few years ago. But it truly seems like amateur hour on offense. How many times is Manning moving someone in the backfield to the other side of him? How many times when we see Hillis or Williams in the game do they hand it to one of them? Then when we need to score co tinge to throw 7 yard passes.

The end of both halves we almost like we need to get some fantasy stats because we know we won't score. Let's hand it off 65 yards from the end zone and then call timeout so we can hand it off again? WTF was that? Then down by 10 I don't expect us to score or win but how about trying. 48 seconds left and we dump it for a 7 yard pass. Then run it again and fumble. What was the point? How about rolling out and throwing a bomb. Maybe catch it or get a penalty. Kick a FG and then onside kick.

Plus 13 penalties in the last 2 games. Every time they take a step forward and have 3rd and short false start or holding. And that is when they are not giving up sacks or fumbling the ball away.

Can anyone sit here and say Eli is playing terrible? No. The play calling though is killing me.

Did we watch the same game? Dallas controlled the game. Eli played well, but in the trenches our D was badly outplayed by Dallas O.

right now with no Cruz for the rest of the year and no Jennings, so I can't crush them too much. I think 90% of this loss again is on the defense

are not a good football team, and will continue to be a bad team until Jerry Reese realizers that you have to draft OL early. Until then, we will continue to suck. We will be lucky to win six games this year. And, by the way, Will Beatty is not good! Needs to be replaced. With six wins, we may have an opportunity to replace him.

drafted players vs free agent cast offs
Big Blue Fan 74 : 10/19/2014 8:57 pm : link
Picking up a free agent cast off that was drafted in the 1st or 2nd round is not the same as drafting a player in the 1st or 2nd round.

If the team that knows the player best does not want to keep him, then he is not worth his price.

If you disagree then why don't we draft the OL players and get the WRs on the free market?

Also if you disagree, then we does our OL suck year after year?
Not hitting the panic button yet...
trueblueinpw : 10/19/2014 9:02 pm : link
Bye week comes at a good time. We have several key players that need to heal up. I think getting Schwartz back could be a real boost to the O-line. We obviously miss Jennings. Williams has been ok for a rookie. OBJ is the goods. Cox has been real solid taking a knee on kicks and even brought one back into + territory today. O's gonna get better and they'll get a few more wins even with Cruz lost for the season.

The defense is a real problem. I've been calling for Fewell to be fired for years. He's done not one thing this season to convince me that he's a serviceable DC. I get the whole thing about the players needing to make plays, and like every team in the NFL, we've got some guys nicked up, but Fewell's just not able to put the guys he has into situations where they are effective. That's the coaches job - put in game plans that expose opponents weakness and put your players into position to make plays. Fewell doesn't have the 86 Bears personal out there, but if he did, he'd probably drop them into soft zone cover 2 schemes.
Coaching is an issue
Sammo284 : 10/19/2014 9:07 pm : link
People want to ignore it and use the 2 SB wins as a lifetime pass, but this team is so poorly prepared anymore and shows utter lack of discipline and understanding/communication.

Coughlin took far less talented JAX teams into the playoffs but they went in because they played smart, tough, football. These teams lately play scared, selfishly, cluelessly.

Also, the front office deserves a ton of blame for the OL and front 7 of the defense. They shouldnt escape scot-free either.
Perry Fewell is a BIG part of the problem
Chris L. : 10/19/2014 10:23 pm : link
As Eric pointed out not one incomplete pass by Romo in second half. Not One!!!!! Our corners are Prince and DRC which happen to each be better than anyone on the Dallas roster. I've been saying it for a year now. Every time we play a decent QB we give up 30+ points. Plays more zone than anyone in the league. Cowboys played man all day and they have Scandrick playing CB...enough said!

That good offensive line in 2007 featured 2 UDFA players, a 4th rd pick a 5th rd pick and Snee as the only high draft pick.

It goes both ways with drafts. The only way to get a top LT is generally get in the top 10 for a draft pick. It is not going to happen
I absolutely can't stand Fewell
Matt M. : 10/19/2014 10:32 pm : link
First of all, I happen to think there is enough talent on the D to play well. Is this a top 5 D? No. But, it isn't bottom 5 in terms of talent as some here seem to think. they have a talented DL, but consistently fail to get pressure because they consistently rush just 3 or 4 and do so in a very vanilla way. Their blitzes are never disguised or timed well. Every year there are a ton of communication problems in the secondary, regardless of personnel. We continue to play too much zone, and very soft zones at that. We continue to allow teams off the hook on 3rd and long. We continue to allow those back breaker drives when we absolutely need a stop and/or a stop essentially wins the game.

Personally, I felt he should have been fired 2 years ago.
Besides another week of our D just getting abused
Matt M. : 10/19/2014 10:43 pm : link
there were a few things that really bothered me.

1) Why the Hell is a kickoff being run out from 8 yards deep in the end zone?

2) I respect trying to establish the run and the need to not completely abandon the run. But, for at some point you have to say fuck it. You can't can't keep running on both first and second down, with the D stacked in the box and leave yourselves with 3rd and 7, 8, 9, or worse. How about using that WCO short passing style to set up the run, like it is effective at doing?

3) Why bother to call a timeout before the half to run the ball with Hillis?

4) On every 3rd and more than 10 are we seriously going to just run a draw?

5) On the Cowboys 1st TD, you can clearly see JPPs jersey being held. But, that said, it was a a fairly evenly and well called game.
What really kills me
Matt M. : 10/19/2014 10:53 pm : link

you are not going to win many games.....

Play calling , and lack of play action, is a real mystery....this offense has more potential than it is showing....

The Giant defense can't stop a good passing offense.....I don't think they will have much "Luck" in their next game....

This team is what it is.....next year, tough decisions have to be made.......there are too many starters on this team that couldn't start for other teams....
Well my 2 cents
ron in new mexico : 10/20/2014 12:19 am : link
which is probably worth as much…
The problem really is with the D. They cannot field a consistent pass rush, with the starting four.
Like two different teams out there at times. Give Romo time and forget it, he will kill you.

On O, I can't figure out the run run run when the run is obviously not working, didn't work since the first half and the pass is.
But really Eli brought them back within 7, if the D held I have no doubt he with the ball back ties it up, and likely continues on for a win.
But the D didn't hold, not a bit.

Maybe next year barring some significant play call differences on D I see no hope for this season. JPP is great at times but he is hot and cold and seems like he is the only one out there at times. The secondary has to much pressure if they have to much time to deal with. A nil receiver will get open if he has time it can't be helped. But the pressure is sometimes there and at times it is like they are just standing around.
Watching this team shoot themselves in the foot (or up to the kneecap)
Shockeyisthebest80 : 10/20/2014 12:51 am : link
for 3 hours is not fun. While some want to focus on Jerry Reese, there's a real problem in terms of the preparation and game day execution with this football team. The turnovers, penalties, and mental mistakes are on the coaching staff.

- People gave TC all the credit for stopping Tiki Barber's fumbling problems. Meanwhile the Giants have fumbled NON-STOP for 8 years since Tiki retired.
- Perry Fewell needs to be fired during this bye week. I cannot stand the mind-numbing stupidity of a defense that treats the opponents' stars like they're average players undeserving of extra attention. Why on Earth should a practice squad player be covering Dez Bryant just because he's in the slot??????? The same dumb shit happened week 1 with Calvin Johnson being covered by a LB just because he was in the slot. Last week they dared the Eagles to beat them with LeSean McCoy. In 2011, they let the 49ers only pass option (Davis) catch long TDs in the conference championship. Plus, I cannot take anymore of guys looking at each other after another opponent is allowed to run free through the secondary. Jason Witten caught a 3rd down pass between 2 Giants who were covering NO ONE in a zone defense.
- The offensive line is maddening. 3 different idiots made pre-snap infractions and they couldn't run with just 6 Cowboys in the box. Beatty took the mantle from Justin Pugh for worst offensive line performance of the last 9,000 years.
- The Giants were great at preventing long runs in 2013 with Will Hill and Rolle. Now they suck at it again.
- I just can't anymore with Rueben Randle.

Despite a few costly bad throws, I thought Eli played well. ODB was whipping Carr's ass. It would be nice to take a few chances deep with him.
I think eli is allowed to think too much.
blakjedi : 10/20/2014 4:45 am : link
I think the defense had too much say in what plays we run. I think they present a front knowing what we will check into and hope that we do it. I think that it's a well known secret as it were that you can make the giants offense change into advantageous looks for the defense. The giants should have tin pass options out of the same exact alignment do the font waste time moving to another look.

This loss was frustrating because they went away from what worked and never went back.
