Bye week comes at a good time. We have several key players that need to heal up. I think getting Schwartz back could be a real boost to the O-line. We obviously miss Jennings. Williams has been ok for a rookie. OBJ is the goods. Cox has been real solid taking a knee on kicks and even brought one back into + territory today. O's gonna get better and they'll get a few more wins even with Cruz lost for the season.
The defense is a real problem. I've been calling for Fewell to be fired for years. He's done not one thing this season to convince me that he's a serviceable DC. I get the whole thing about the players needing to make plays, and like every team in the NFL, we've got some guys nicked up, but Fewell's just not able to put the guys he has into situations where they are effective. That's the coaches job - put in game plans that expose opponents weakness and put your players into position to make plays. Fewell doesn't have the 86 Bears personal out there, but if he did, he'd probably drop them into soft zone cover 2 schemes.
People want to ignore it and use the 2 SB wins as a lifetime pass, but this team is so poorly prepared anymore and shows utter lack of discipline and understanding/communication.
Coughlin took far less talented JAX teams into the playoffs but they went in because they played smart, tough, football. These teams lately play scared, selfishly, cluelessly.
Also, the front office deserves a ton of blame for the OL and front 7 of the defense. They shouldnt escape scot-free either.
As Eric pointed out not one incomplete pass by Romo in second half. Not One!!!!! Our corners are Prince and DRC which happen to each be better than anyone on the Dallas roster. I've been saying it for a year now. Every time we play a decent QB we give up 30+ points. Plays more zone than anyone in the league. Cowboys played man all day and they have Scandrick playing CB...enough said!
First of all, I happen to think there is enough talent on the D to play well. Is this a top 5 D? No. But, it isn't bottom 5 in terms of talent as some here seem to think. they have a talented DL, but consistently fail to get pressure because they consistently rush just 3 or 4 and do so in a very vanilla way. Their blitzes are never disguised or timed well. Every year there are a ton of communication problems in the secondary, regardless of personnel. We continue to play too much zone, and very soft zones at that. We continue to allow teams off the hook on 3rd and long. We continue to allow those back breaker drives when we absolutely need a stop and/or a stop essentially wins the game.
Personally, I felt he should have been fired 2 years ago.
Besides another week of our D just getting abused Â
1) Why the Hell is a kickoff being run out from 8 yards deep in the end zone?
2) I respect trying to establish the run and the need to not completely abandon the run. But, for at some point you have to say fuck it. You can't can't keep running on both first and second down, with the D stacked in the box and leave yourselves with 3rd and 7, 8, 9, or worse. How about using that WCO short passing style to set up the run, like it is effective at doing?
3) Why bother to call a timeout before the half to run the ball with Hillis?
4) On every 3rd and more than 10 are we seriously going to just run a draw?
5) On the Cowboys 1st TD, you can clearly see JPPs jersey being held. But, that said, it was a a fairly evenly and well called game.
Play calling , and lack of play action, is a real mystery....this offense has more potential than it is showing....
The Giant defense can't stop a good passing offense.....I don't think they will have much "Luck" in their next game....
This team is what it is.....next year, tough decisions have to be made.......there are too many starters on this team that couldn't start for other teams....
which is probably worth as much…
The problem really is with the D. They cannot field a consistent pass rush, with the starting four.
Like two different teams out there at times. Give Romo time and forget it, he will kill you.
On O, I can't figure out the run run run when the run is obviously not working, didn't work since the first half and the pass is.
But really Eli brought them back within 7, if the D held I have no doubt he with the ball back ties it up, and likely continues on for a win.
But the D didn't hold, not a bit.
Maybe next year barring some significant play call differences on D I see no hope for this season. JPP is great at times but he is hot and cold and seems like he is the only one out there at times. The secondary has to much pressure if they have to much time to deal with. A nil receiver will get open if he has time it can't be helped. But the pressure is sometimes there and at times it is like they are just standing around.
Watching this team shoot themselves in the foot (or up to the kneecap) Â
for 3 hours is not fun. While some want to focus on Jerry Reese, there's a real problem in terms of the preparation and game day execution with this football team. The turnovers, penalties, and mental mistakes are on the coaching staff.
- People gave TC all the credit for stopping Tiki Barber's fumbling problems. Meanwhile the Giants have fumbled NON-STOP for 8 years since Tiki retired.
- Perry Fewell needs to be fired during this bye week. I cannot stand the mind-numbing stupidity of a defense that treats the opponents' stars like they're average players undeserving of extra attention. Why on Earth should a practice squad player be covering Dez Bryant just because he's in the slot??????? The same dumb shit happened week 1 with Calvin Johnson being covered by a LB just because he was in the slot. Last week they dared the Eagles to beat them with LeSean McCoy. In 2011, they let the 49ers only pass option (Davis) catch long TDs in the conference championship. Plus, I cannot take anymore of guys looking at each other after another opponent is allowed to run free through the secondary. Jason Witten caught a 3rd down pass between 2 Giants who were covering NO ONE in a zone defense.
- The offensive line is maddening. 3 different idiots made pre-snap infractions and they couldn't run with just 6 Cowboys in the box. Beatty took the mantle from Justin Pugh for worst offensive line performance of the last 9,000 years.
- The Giants were great at preventing long runs in 2013 with Will Hill and Rolle. Now they suck at it again.
- I just can't anymore with Rueben Randle.
Despite a few costly bad throws, I thought Eli played well. ODB was whipping Carr's ass. It would be nice to take a few chances deep with him.
I think the defense had too much say in what plays we run. I think they present a front knowing what we will check into and hope that we do it. I think that it's a well known secret as it were that you can make the giants offense change into advantageous looks for the defense. The giants should have tin pass options out of the same exact alignment do the font waste time moving to another look.
This loss was frustrating because they went away from what worked and never went back.

It goes both ways with drafts. The only way to get a top LT is generally get in the top 10 for a draft pick. It is not going to happen
