Have we seen the last of Jon Beason as a Giant?

MookGiants : 10/19/2014 8:08 pm
Re-aggravated his toe injury today, who knows if we'll see him the rest of the year. Next year he has a cap number of nearly 7 million, 3.5 of it is dead money if you cut him I believe. It's hard to justify keeping a guy who isn't that great to begin with and is constantly injured. I'd like to upgrade the position in the off-season and cut ties
yeah

at least McClain isn't as bad as our past backup MLBs.
McClain is honestly adequate in the middle..
arcarsenal : 10/19/2014 8:10 pm : link
It's the OLB's who aren't so good. It would be nice if we could put a legitimately talented LB on the outside for once.
Mook..

you were correct about Beason and you were on this since last season. He just gets hurt too much.

I'm stunned at how bad Williams has been. We have Kennard but it will probably be next year when he really arrives.

Dude is ALWAYS injured.
Should have had surgery when he got hurt.
BlueHurricane : 10/19/2014 8:13 pm : link
Would have been ready to go a couple weeks ago.

this year, quite possibly. But even if he can play, he'll clearly be limited. We don't need even less speed at LB. His cap number is 7.3M next year. 3.8M cap hit if cut before June 1; 3.5M after June 1.

His contract is beginning to look like a mini version of what we did with Beatty. Overpaid for a player because we had no alternative at the position. I was wrong to criticize Reese for giving up a lowly seventh round pick for Beason, but the contract may have been a mistake.

shit for this...but another misjudgement by the medical staff.

re-signing him or having him return when he did?
I commented on the game thread

that I thought the defense was more effective against the run with Beason out of the lineup
I suspected he had not

truly healed when he started the season. Is this a case where toughing it out causes more long term damage than its worth? Possibly. I hope he heals and comes back to play for NYG.

Reese deserves some blame for him too, even if he checked out. The guy's been injured most of his career, it made no sense to sign a check like that regardless of what the medical staff said.
Beason's contract is similar
mrvax : 10/19/2014 8:22 pm : link
to Beatty situation. Decent player at their position, no possible way to pick up a better F/A.

Rolle's contract is very expensive too and 2014 is the final year. I think he either accepts a pay cut or is gone next year.
Eh Eric
DavidinBMNY : 10/19/2014 8:22 pm : link
It is only a matter of time with that injury until it can get fixed offseason. I think the signing is a better argument, since he has been injured a lot lately other then last year.
Beason's play as of late and health
Patrick77 : 10/19/2014 8:24 pm : link
Has been worth exactly a 7th rounder.
According to Antonio Pierce
pjcas18 : 10/19/2014 8:25 pm : link
that was Beason on the first Escobar TD who had coverage responsibility even though Hosley was watching the whole play like the FSU O-lineman a couple years ago who never left his stance and Rolle let him pass by while gesturing and yelling at Beason.

Beason's a goner
mrvax : 10/19/2014 8:26 pm : link
2015 cap hit is $7,366,666. Dead $ is $3,833,334.
Savings by cutting him is $3.5 million.
In the post game presser TC seemed exasperated when asked about
RDJR : 10/19/2014 8:26 pm : link
Beason. Said he thought they were beyond the toe injury, but it came up again. Not sure if he is frustrated with the player, the medical staff or the situation in general. Maybe all of the above.
last year
lecky : 10/19/2014 8:30 pm : link
most people on here were worried we wouldnt sign him. There were so many stud middle linebackers out there to sign and we signed a guy who couldnt play over Chase Blackburn. And he was an injury risk. I would fire the guy who decided this guy was our future at middle linebacker
He will go on IR Monday or Tuesday
Shockwave : 10/19/2014 8:32 pm : link
Then cut in the offseason. Really sucks, he was the best we had since pierce in his prime.
he should have had the surgery
ZogZerg : 10/19/2014 9:15 pm : link

He's well past his prime
Dave in PA : 10/19/2014 9:18 pm : link
He's doesn't make an impact on the game even when he's mostly healthy, if he's ever even been mostly healthy in the last 4 years. We need some legit linebackers badly
Another position NEGLECTED
phil fromphilly : 10/19/2014 9:18 pm : link
By JR. How many years has it been since Pierce retired? Haven't had a real middle linebacker since then.

Eric, what is your take on how Nicks was handled after the TB game that marked the end of his career as an elite player?

Just from the outside it seems they let him play through stuff that he never ended up recovering from. Now I don't have any idea if he would have recovered had they shut him down, but I don't remember anyone at the time thinking his injury was potentially career altering.
Beason
lugnut : 10/19/2014 9:33 pm : link
Yeah, love the commitment, love the attitude, love the desire, but he's a piece of farking glass. How do you justify paying someone $7+ million if he's not on the field even half the time?

BTW, don't you love the way TC always refers to "the medical people"? Like he might as well call them "untouchables."
Reese sucks
spike : 10/19/2014 9:34 pm : link
when is he going to get some quality linebackers on this defense.

This D seriously needs some retoolings, as wellas our OL. Dallas has shown how it's done in this league with a stud OL.
Reese needs to flat out do better
bubba0825 : 10/19/2014 9:38 pm : link
We gone down hill in talent for a few years now. What late round pick has been valueble on this team

I've seen nothing in print to suggest that Nicks' issues are related to his previous injuries - I don't even think they required major surgery.
This team needs to get younger & FASTER

Easy Eric! You might get run off your own board.

Btw, I agree with you. I just hope the masses who swear by the coaches and Drs are always right crowd quit being so close minded.
