OK, the Boys didn't play bad D and the Giants' O line isn't All Pro, so we got that out of the way. But having now watched enough of Andre Williams, I'm bothered by what I see. All too often he plays soft at the point of contact. And it has nothing to do with anything but his play, because when Jennings or Hillis are about to make contact, they will usually accelerate into the tackler. Andre most often will not. He will usually either slow, or stop, and attempt to do a spin. It worked once tonight for about 7 yards. The rest of the time it didn't.
He did the same thing in school. Is this something that can be coached out of him? Are the Giants even trying? Is this why the Giants are constantly talking about him being a load? To build up his confidence? Yeah, he will sometimes truck a DB, but far more often he is stopped wherever he first makes contact.
He's certainly built for short yardage, and is in great shape. I just can't understand why he has this problem?
This.
And TC basically giving away our game plan by announcing to the media his commitment to the run.
Loss of Jennings was a season killer.
Especially Walton and Jerry.
Really?
Absolutely right. Jennings wouldn't be running for big yards behind that line either.
no blocks. ..
Maybe having him as a check down option or out there blocking would at least separate Tom a little from his run-run-run obsession that cut their balls off today.
The D isn't playing well at all. Some of that is injuries no doubt. They have a zillion injuries. But they haven't been good all year against good teams. (Detroit, Arizona, Philly or Dallas). They are 0-4 in those games. Not all of it is there fault but they have not played well.
And that's true. They didn't. or, um, er, they did. Whatever.
But the answer to this question is: the interior line got pushed around by an inferior DL today.
This is not about Andre Williams.
