Good News: Odell Beckham Jr. looks very good..

Sean : 10/19/2014 8:24 pm
when he missed training camp and the first 4 games of the season, I assumed this would essentially be a lost year for him.

This guy seems to have grasped the offense quickly and he is making a big impact. There have been a ton of threads on here debating not taking Zack Martin, but Beckham is a weapon and I'm very glad to see him playing so well.
I wonder what Giant

Some of moves in the slot were looking like Cruz only he was faster making those.

He is the No 1 WR the team needs

He is a stud, so glad he is a Giant. Will be fun to watch the next few years
Its still early.

I am curious to see how he handles defenses playing him as more game tape is available. That's going to be the test for this system overall and Ben M.

I'd say we collectively failed that test last week in Philly...some better signs today

Cruz didn't look this good as a rookie. In his breakout season, he wasn't considered a rookie.
He looks like he has great skills.....
Simms11 : 10/19/2014 8:53 pm : link
runs crisp routes, quick in and out of breaks, nice speed and elusiveness and nice hands. He will be a good receiver regardless of how defenses play him IMO.

We needed a playmaker on Offense and he looks like a good piece for the O.

Hey old fella. You're 3 hours past your bedtime. Take a nap
We suck because our defensive front 7 sucks as a whole
lawguy9801 : 10/19/2014 9:01 pm : link
And our OL is mediocre.

Eli and ODB are two things that are NOT wrong with this team.
He draws a bunch of penalties
Phil in LA : 10/19/2014 9:01 pm : link
too.
I know
Arcanum : 10/19/2014 9:19 pm : link
One thing, he seems to get held every damn play. And yet, the refs don't call it
Believe your eyes!
idinkido : 10/20/2014 7:04 am : link
Even if Cruz was not hurt , ODB is the best receiver , talent wise, on the Giants. This is not to knock Cruz who is clearly a big play maker but to emphasize ODB"s tools. ODB is born to this game. He gets what he has to do very quickly and can make adjustments on the fly. Plus, his speed and his ability to instantaneously come in and out of his cuts, he has a natural affinity to catching gracefully the ball. He is also a natural punt returner who I think has the ability to not get hurt: has the instinct as to where the pressure is and where to move after catching the ball. I think Nicks was a great talent, but he was more like a comet who burnt out. ODB has staying power.

And we should have taken either one over Beckham. He looks like a nice receiver. But given his height, he's unlikely to be that dominant #1 receiver. Martin's already playing on an all pro level, and Donald is coming on. You win on the lines.
I don't want to think about this team
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/20/2014 8:55 am : link
if he wasn't on it.

Reuben Randle and Preston Parker would be the starting WRs.

You don't want to think of Martin on the OL instead of Jerry? I won't say receivers are a dime a dozen, but other than the top guys (Johnson, Jones, Green, Bryant, etc.), if a decent QB gets time, he can make most receivers look good.
OBJ!!
gidiefor : Mod : 10/20/2014 8:58 am : link
YeaH BabY!!!
At that spot in the draft
JonC : 10/20/2014 8:58 am : link
you're not getting a blue chip left tackle, and an impact WR has more value in the modern NFL than virtually any other OL position.

OB is a weapon, the total package.
We got Beckham
Headhunter : 10/20/2014 9:00 am : link
and he is ours, stays healthy will own all the receiving team records. An absolute STUD
It's a start, if stays healthy for the most part
micky : 10/20/2014 9:06 am : link
he'll likely be one of the best WR's Giants have ever had. Looking forward to his career here.

We don't know that he won't be a top guy in his own right. It took Dez Bryant about 3 years to break out.
At draft time
Mike in NY : 10/20/2014 9:24 am : link
People here scoffed at me for saying that Odell Beckham Jr. was the 2nd best WR in this draft behind Watkins and that, among others, I would take Brandin Cooks ahead of Mike Evans. I know it is early but things are looking good
I thought Mike Evans would be at least decent.
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/20/2014 9:26 am : link
I don't think many Giants fans were paying attention to the draftees aside from Mike Evans and Eric Ebron.
Dez Bryant comparison
jeff57 : 10/20/2014 9:33 am : link
Bryant is 3 inches taller and over 20 pounds heavier than Beckham. Except for Steve Smith, the dominant receivers in recent years have been over 6 feet. Doesn't mean Beckham won't be a good one. Maybe he can replicate Smith. But taking an under 6 foot receiver at 12 is a bit of a reach.
Honestly...
jtb nyg : 10/20/2014 9:33 am : link
He might be the best player on this team. Skill wise he's already top 5 in my eyes. That may speak more to our team, but I'm liking this draft already. Williams will be fine if we develop a blocking scheme at some point.

Steve Smith is a freak of nature doing what he does at 5'7. But Beckham is 3-4 inches taller than Smith. It's true that he doesn't fit the prototype, but I'm not too worried that he's 5'11 and not 6'1.

Randle has all the physical size you want in a WR and we're still wondering what he does well.
OBJ is a great
mrvax : 10/20/2014 9:42 am : link
draft pick. Thankfully we got a good playmaker.
I like what I see from him so far. It was funny the way he sort of "felt up" the 2 guys covering him just 2 seconds before his 2nd TD.
38.5 vertical
Headhunter : 10/20/2014 10:10 am : link
catches the ball at the apex, has huge hands, is quick and fast, runs great routes. I'll give up 2 inches in height

Just compare him to Barden. Hell, he's just about as fast as DeSean Jackson but much stronger.
But the Bad News: The Giants prefer to give Peyton Hillis
eclipz928 : 10/20/2014 11:15 am : link
more touches. It's amazing that everyone sees the impact that this kid Beckham can make on a game, yet the ball only has come his way a just handful of times.
I said ODB! Meant OBJ

How did I get ODB? Meant OBJ. LOL my age is telling

Think of a healthy Nicks
Matt M. : 10/20/2014 4:18 pm : link
and then upgrade that. That is how i view Beckham. He is everything he was advertised as. He is certainly NFL ready as a rookie. He runs crisp routes. He gets in and out of his breaks quickly and cleanly. He has amazing hands. He uses his body well to shield the ball from defenders and to draw penalties. He goes up after the ball. He is also a lot quicker than he looks.

I hope this is a joke. I don't think this is the case at all and it is not based on hindsight whatsoever.
Stop calling him ODB
Giantology : 10/20/2014 4:36 pm : link
His name isn't O. Dell Beckham

It's Odell Beckham Jr - OBJ
ODB is perfectly acceptable
MarshallOnMontana : 10/20/2014 5:28 pm : link
So is 'Ole Dirty Beckham

I wont ever see it the same way as the obj folks. He will always be odb to me

I've only seen him play
section125 : 10/20/2014 5:39 pm : link
one game, but to me he looks like Victor Cruz with better hands. I did not see the blazing speed. I saw quick, clean routes and making the catch seem easy.
ive never seen "jr" initialed
MarshallOnMontana : 10/20/2014 5:42 pm : link
I have seen a name (s) broken into its 2 syllables and double initialed, much like in the case of making o.d. out of odell.

Also, odb just sounds better than obj.
I've had this ODB argument already
AnotherGiantsFan : 10/20/2014 5:53 pm : link
I have no idea why people give a shit what someone else calls an NFL player.

There was a bunch of other stupid on that thread. Calling him ODB in part because of Ol' Dirty Bastard, BBI making up the nickname ODB, etc.

What I'm surprised about with ODB more than anything is how much of a redzone target he's been. With his hands and speed you'd expect him to be more of a big play in the middle of the field type of guy. Not a 5'11 guy catching 3 TDs in 3 games. Very encouraging that he's getting open in the redzone.
.
AnotherGiantsFan : 10/20/2014 5:53 pm : link
Calling him ODB in part because of Ol' Dirty Bastard was considered a reach**
i missed that thread
MarshallOnMontana : 10/20/2014 5:59 pm : link
I dont care what anyone else calls him, but i will call him odb. The fact that it has a tie in to ole dirty bastard is just icing on the cake. It just sounds better
Just wonder how many Cowboy fans wished that Odell Beckham
Headhunter : 10/20/2014 6:06 pm : link
dropped to them? I am getting sick of reading about Zack Martin like we missed out on John Hannah( look him up ) I bet that Cowboy fans imaging Bryant and Beckham and are upset he didn't drop
