Amazes me how quickly things change on a dime in the NFL

TexasGmenFan : 10/19/2014 10:01 pm
I don't mean mid-game necessarily, but just perceptions from week to week.

Rewind to a month ago...and this team is 0-2 coming off of a brutal preseason and everyone was ready to pack it in, with some in the national media debating whether we were in fact THE worst team in the league.

Then in the matter of literally 4 days, we're 2-2 and the west coast offense is working and the D is flying. We go tack on a come from behind W the next week with the offense again looking great and a new weapon emerges on O. Some are now arguing we're the most balanced team in an underrated division.

Now in the matter of 7 short days, we're 3-4...without our top WR for the season; look mistake-prone and flat out inept at times. Losing in the trenches and almost no one stepping up to make a play when it matters.

Now we have 2 weeks to let this all sink in, and moreover, know we are looking up not only at TWO teams in the division, but probably no less than 7 or 8 in the conference.

Things look mighty bleak...but perhaps we can take solace in the fact that hey, maybe things can flip yet again. Never know.
In my opinion
TheNeumann64 : 10/19/2014 10:08 pm : link
most of that "flipping" was because they played 3 mediocre to bad teams in a row, followed by going back to quality opponents. Unfortunately the quality won't be dipping any time in the next 4 games.
They're F'd

The rest of the schedule is really tough. As currently assembled, this Giants team is the least athletic in the NFL.
When I was a kid, in the early 1970s,

and the Giants stunk, it always frustrated me that they always seemed to be playing a good team, or at least a team better than they were. They played a lot better against crummy teams like themselves.

I don't think I quite had my head around the difference between a good team and a bad team.

It doesn't really matter
NoPeanutz : 10/19/2014 10:20 pm : link
who is a good team, who is a bad team, or which is better in each game. On February 3, 2014, the Patriots were the better* team. But that didn't matter when the clock hit 0:00

Any of these Coughlin teams have shown the maddening ability to turn it around and get it done, pretty much any time, anywhere, and with any players.
It's frustrating, but it makes watching on Sunday worth it. The Giants are mediocre, sure. But mediocre with a chance to win.

I enjoy watching my team "game by game", and expect them to be competitive. (Don't get me wrong, I've had more than my share of sleepless nights over games thrown away).
Over the course of my rooting for the NYG (since 1954) I have to say I'm very pleased with their performance over that period. (No, I don't tolerate incompetence and some of those years were BAD. But some were very good!)
Those of you who are fair weather fans have not experienced the REAL down years (or those of many other teams in the NFL); remember the league is structured to reduce the probability that successful teams repeat.
BTW I will sleep well tonight.

I don't think anything changed on a dime.

The Giants were 0-2 and essentially handed Arizona that second game. There was a little to be optimistic about and they built on those positives and came out with 3 wins in a row. Then they get absolutely obliterated by one division rival and fairly well outplayed by another. Two bad losses is not "on a dime".
if hey were on a chart it would look like
Frank ' Harrisburg : 10/19/2014 11:18 pm : link
first two weeks holding up the chart, second 2-3 weeks on top of the chart and the last two weeks somewhere in the middle,

our getting to the top again seems very possible.

Dallas is hot but we didn't lose by much. i still believe the giants and Dallas will fight for a playoff spot
One win against a team
Doomster : 10/19/2014 11:20 pm : link
with a winning record in two seasons, and the backup was in that game.....that should tell you where this team is......

It is a team that is more than a few players away, from leaving that middle of the pack group....

Rams shouldve rolled over and kissed the seahawks rings cause they were the better team today.
Turn on a dime??

Christ, when you are on a game thread wanting people to fired and acting like a petulant brat at the first sign of problems, I don't think the NFL is the only place you see this phenomenon.

"I've failed to be properly entertained, so I'm going to proudly make an ass out of myself and whine incessantly!"

This team has not turned on a dime...

your emotions and expectations for this team have. If you step back from the past few games and look at this team from a 3 year view....then nothing has changed.

We have an average or below average team that really cannot consistently win against better teams. We are a team with holes in far too many areas. We are a team that has had the same basic problems for the past three years. We are a team that has a lot of bad wins with a couple of "fools gold games" thrown in just to keep you coming back.

So, this is exactly what we have been watching for a while. Nothing has changed.

Bipolar disorder should be renamed BBI syndrome. When its a win, this is the bestest team ever and when they lose, everyone needs to be fired

oh joy its you again. please check my thread history/post history whatever you want...ive *never* advocated anyone being fired. ever. ever. Coughlin has earned the right to go when he pleases. there's a difference between calling for someone to be fired the second a bad play happens versus venting frustration at the glut of mistakes that quite frankly a more disciplined team simply shouldn't make.

or in yesterdays adventure, calling a guy that was barely a 5th string RB in camp "waiver wire" fodder.

but continue to preach from your soap box lumping me in with whomever else you want. dont care.
We are going to win . . .

You have consistently..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/20/2014 10:42 am : link
posted stupid shit on game threads. Last year, you would even stand by some of the stupid shit the next day.

That says enough about your football knowledge to me that needs to be said.

Just another reactionary jackass on a game thread who proudly owns his idiocy.

Good work.

As an example, you lost your shit last night when Cox didn't get back to the 20 yard line on a return. When I asked why you didn't bitch the kickoff before when he made it to the 35, you spouted off some crap like we should put him in Canton.

And it looks like you stand by it today.

Stupid, reactionary fuck.

yes because some of what i said was in fact TRUE. you leave out the part where others in your classy callout threads would also essentially say something to the effect of "um. ya that's really not that bad and yes it was a dumb mistake"...but let's just leave that out.

in terms of my football knowledge? i really care what "FatManInCharlotte" thinks of that. ha. you know nothing about me or my history, so correlate reactionary - - not absurd, but reactionary - - posts to football knowledge. because that sounds like a pretty intelligent conclusion to make too.

in terms of yesterday, its funny how you've spun things. i was angry he took it out from several yards deep when it was clear there was nothing set up. yes he got out to the 30 (right?) the ONE kick before, but go ahead and count how many of our kick returns have made it out past the 30 in say the last 3 years.

you got butthurt because i called him waiver wire fodder...period. and he was the FIFTH string RB. again, what the hell do you call that? but i guess that's just me being reactionary.

get off your soapbox. you fail to mention all the positive things i've written in gamethreads as well...or quite frankly anything i've ever written. but then again, you don't seem like the type to write a cognizant complete picture story. just pick and choose.

oh and i forgot who i was writing to...so fuck shit balls cock fucker.

I agree Dallas is hot, but they now have a 3 game lead on the Giants. I don't see them fighting with the Giants for the same spot. With some of the other pre-season favorites struggling, the Giants are still in the thick of the WC hunt. But, they are more likely to be fighting with Philly and some others than Dallas.
