Justin Pugh

Anakim : 10/19/2014 10:12 pm
So far...not so good at OT. Obviously, there were concerns about his short arms (hence the T-Rex jokes) and his lack of strength. My concern is how slow he is off the snap. It seems like whichever DE he plays consistently gets off the LOS faster than Pugh, which leads to QB pressure.

Is his future at Guard? His lack of strength would be an even more glaring need there, although Pugh seems to have the athleticism to be a pulling Guard. Could next year's line look like:

Beatty---Pugh---Richburg---Schwartz---FA/Draft pick
He is hurt.

He has to he. You don't play extremely well against JJ Watt and then suck balls against the Conor Barwins of the world.
don't you mean

Justin Barwin?

He got married last weekend.
lets hope he feels better

It's been a dramatic decline

So maybe he's got some health issues dragging him down. If that's the case, hopefully the week off helps him, because it's been ugly out there.

I honestly think Brett secretly hugged Pugh.
Ruined him

Please stop. I'm tired of hearing he played well against JJ Watt. He had a lot of help, they schemed against JJ Watt. I recall one play where Watt was triple teamed.

I don't think a position change is warranted.
It's a little known fact
Stufftherun : 10/19/2014 10:25 pm : link
that short armed NFL OT's are more susceptible to elbow injuries.

Was that thing on his arm ever explained?
I heard he hurt his elbow

One play..... Ok. One play you remember. They ran about 50. The general consensus was he was mainly responsible for keeping Watt at bay. He is dinged. He is being the typical good solider and not making excuses.

And the sad part is that he was on a ladder...
Pugh has tremendous difificulty
Hammer : 10/19/2014 10:49 pm : link
Stopping ends that come across his face. He holds his own on outside rushes but when the end jukes outside and then takes an inside angle He is not strong enough to recover.

Opponents have seen this and Pugh is going to have to figure it out. Until he does, the struggles will continue.
His play in a loud environment (i.e. on road)
Andy in Halifax : 10/19/2014 10:52 pm : link
is significantly worse than how he plays at home. I assume this is something he`ll develop as he gains experience.

Agreed. And as others have noted, he's hurt.
He is not an NFL caliber Right Tackle
TrueBlue'02 : 10/19/2014 11:09 pm : link
in my opinion. Maybe can be an okay left tackle, and probably best at guard.
If he's hurt,
Doomster : 10/19/2014 11:15 pm : link
it had to have happened before the first preseason game.....
brace or no brace
SHO'NUFF : 10/19/2014 11:57 pm : link
doesn't account for shitty footwork...which was heavily touted during the draft.
If it was nothing serious
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/20/2014 12:31 am : link
he wouldn't need a brace of that size.

He's got to be playing with some injury. He doesn't seem like a guy that would ever admit to being hurt anyway.
He has very good feet..
RAIN : 10/20/2014 1:35 am : link
but like some other Giants in the past few weeks it seems like he's stuck in mud. The whole team seems to be playing slow.

If he's hurt
rdt288 : 10/20/2014 5:52 am : link
to the extent that he can't perform, get him the hell out of there

This whole playing hurt stuff is stupid. This is the nfl. No if you can't go you can't go.

If it is in fact that he is injured
Don't know what you people were
section125 : 10/20/2014 6:09 am : link
watching yesterday, but after the 1st quarter the olines pass protection was petty damn good. Eli was hardly pressured. The ron blocking sucked.

SanFranGiantsFan : 10/20/2014 6:17 am : link
Dude's injured.
I don;t know either 125
Essex : 10/20/2014 8:26 am : link
I got to watch the tape again because the offensive line looked ok to me in pass blocking. I really do not recall Pugh having a bad game beside the false start penalty and that one play in the first quarter. I think some of the run game issues is with AW not being NFL ready. He is ok to be a change of pace back, but he really doesn't have the ability yet to carry a full load. Just doesn't see the holes fast enough. Jennings is a polished back and it shows.

Chris Snee played the entire 2012 season hurt.

Linval Joseph played while needing offseason surgery on his knees. It happens.

Umm, who do you want to put in there in his place? Cupboard looks bare to me.
He's already proven himself
Randy in CT : 10/20/2014 12:30 pm : link
so it must be "something else" and injury makes sense.
So he was an all pro
LauderdaleMatty : 10/20/2014 12:45 pm : link
When hurt vs the Texan and Skins but not against the Eagles or Dallas.

He's been over estimated here. Teams get film on young guys and adjust. They are adjusting. He played well for a rookie and somehow people penciled him in as some sure fire plug in guy for the next 10 years. Find an OL who isn't a bit dinged after 7-8 games. His problems in the Eagle games went far beyond an elbow. He was a total mess

He's been bad more than good this year. Doesn't mean he can correct some of his issues but his play hardly inspires confidence short term and is leaving potentially bigger questions long term.
