I'd rather see Eli kneel on the ball

jlukes : 10/20/2014 8:28 am
than watch Peyton Hills run with the ball. Every time Peyton Hills touches the ball, a little piece of me dies.

Hillis needs to retire and take Quintin Demps with him
i actually
Les in TO : 10/20/2014 8:31 am : link
would like to see hillis start over williams if jennings needs to miss another game. not as many negative yardage plays and williams is better in a change up back capacity.
watching Hillis is like watching a defensive tackle play RB
Greg from LI : 10/20/2014 8:33 am : link
That's the kind of speed and moves he has.
Yeah. Hillis
LauderdaleMatty : 10/20/2014 8:33 am : link
Is the issue. Sure.
Matty - there are a bunch of issues
jlukes : 10/20/2014 8:41 am : link
Hillis and the lack of quality dept is one of them.

Hills
Jerry
Demps

should not be on NFL rosters.

THE issue? Of course not.
Greg from LI : 10/20/2014 8:42 am : link
Part of the solution? Absolutely not.
But they play
dep026 : 10/20/2014 8:43 am : link
hard. Why should we complain about shitty players who give there all?

does mrs jlukes know?
After Jennings, Hillis is our best rb

Hillis

is a very serviceable number 3 back.
Hillis
Toth029 : 10/20/2014 9:00 am : link
Can block and be a decent receiver.

The Giants run game is pathetic whether he starts or Williams starts. At least with Hillis you can do more with the packages and realize who to pick up in the blitz.
I agree
Some Fan : 10/20/2014 9:09 am : link
I would start Hillis and bring Williams in as change of pace
It doesn't much matter who you hand the ball to
Mike from Ohio : 10/20/2014 9:38 am : link
when your offensive line is getting dominated virtually every down. The problem with the running game is that our offensive line can not open a hole, and our staff is determined to run the ball no matter how many are stuffed at the line of scrimmage for no gain.

Hillis does suck, but he is not even the beginning of the problem.
They lost their starting two running backs in Wilson & Jennings
steve in ky : 10/20/2014 9:44 am : link
This is what you end up with.
The 3rd and 11 in the first possession
RoadWarriorz : 10/20/2014 10:28 am : link
When we gave the ball to Hillis in Shotgun draw, I was about to break my remote.

I can understand being conservative, but using Hillis on a third and long run play has 0% chance of working.
Hillis's 4.8 YPC were the problem
Great White Ghost : 10/20/2014 10:29 am : link
I'm sure.
I don't mind a Hillis run, per se, as long as its 2nd and 10
ConMan22 : 10/20/2014 10:30 am : link
or 3rd and fucking 11 for that matter.

That first series was not a very promising omen of things to come.

The Giants are one of only a few teams who have yet to score on their opening drive, and yesterday it seemed like that might actually be part of the gameplan.
Hillis's
mrvax : 10/20/2014 10:32 am : link
6 carries got him 4.8 ypc. That's a lot better than 2.8 ypc for Williams.
as long as its *NOT* on 2nd & 10 or 3rd & 11
ConMan22 : 10/20/2014 10:40 am : link
Hi Monday!
Amazingly, some people were asking for Hillis to start
jcn56 : 10/20/2014 10:42 am : link
I like to refer to them as 'clinically insane'.
I don't have a problem with giving Hillis more touches while
Matt M. : 10/20/2014 11:08 am : link
Jennings is out. What i do have a problem with is calling a timeout before the half and then handing it to Hillis when it is guaranteed to be the final play. If you aren't taking a shot deep then don't call the timeout.
yeah, from Hillis to Williams is a change of pace
SHO'NUFF : 10/20/2014 11:55 am : link
from slowest to slow... THEY WON'T KNOW WHAT HIT THEM!
Cannot believe he's on an NFL roster
Kyle in NY : 10/20/2014 11:56 am : link
Awful.
His YPC was decent
Kyle in NY : 10/20/2014 11:57 am : link
because he got two carries at the end of the half when Dallas was playing way back in case of a hail mary pass and he got some easy yardage. He's awful.
That gameplan was a total joke.
GMenLTS : 10/20/2014 11:58 am : link
.
They need Hillis
phil in arizona : 10/20/2014 12:14 pm : link
because he's the only RB on the roster, other than Jennings, that they can count on to consistently read the right blocking assignment.

No. Guys like Bryce Brown, Tre Mason, Antone Smith, and Branden Oliver are very serviceable 3rd RB's. Hillis is just too slow to do much of anything with the ball in his hands.
He's a mess right now.
Curtis in VA : 10/20/2014 12:47 pm : link
So is Williams, who looks like Joe Montgomery out there.
Dont get the hate for Hillis
GeneInCal : 10/20/2014 12:51 pm : link
Jim Brown would have issues running behind this line.
Nobody is going to confuse Hillis with any of the top backs
Matt M. : 10/20/2014 1:07 pm : link
But, I don't think there is a need to or that it would be fair. To say he doesn't belong on a roster, I think, is a gross misstatement. He is serviceable, holds onto the ball, makes the correct reads in blocking assignments and blocks well, will surprise you just enough running the ball, and has good hands. He was not amazing last year, but the effort and attitude he played with made an impact in a couple of those games. He picked up some nice yardage almost completely on his own.

By no means would I want him getting 20+ touches a game. But, I do think he is a decent security blanket to have on this team and is good for short yardage situations as well.

I mean really, do you guys watch the game? Hillis got most of that average based on two garbage time runs.......almost half.

Watch the game with your eyes, not on the stat sheet........
actually, Matt, Hillis doesn't hold on to the ball very well
Greg from LI : 10/20/2014 3:13 pm : link
He's fumbled quite a bit for a guy who hasn't gotten all that many touches in his career.

I'm not expecting much out of the 3rd string and lower players on the roster, but if you can't beat me in a foot race, you shouldn't be on the roster at any level of an NFL team.

I watched the game with my own eys and saw clear as fucking day he had more success runnign the ball than williams did, who got stuffed in the fucking backfield every other play.Seriously. How do you call out hillis and not williams? Give me a break.

19 of the 29 yards gained by Hillis in the game came on the final two plays before the half. Essentially "clock runners."

If you took those away, Hillis would have finished with 4 carries for 10 yards.
If a pig were a horse you could ride it out of town
Great White Ghost : 10/21/2014 2:34 am : link
but it's not so we are stuck with you, and reality, instead of wishes and buts.Shit, lets pretend the Cowboys weren't on the field for Williams top 2 runs.Or we could just ,mention the fact that HALF of Williams 18 rushing attempts went for 1 yard or less. That's a damn sight uglier than juggling Hillis stats to come up with 2.5

Half of Williams runs didn't even reach that lofty mark.
Andre Williams can't block and runs the ball poorly.
Mike from SI : 10/21/2014 3:34 am : link
Hillis only has one of those problems.
....
SanFranGiantsFan : 10/21/2014 6:10 am : link
Hillis sucks, but what would you expect from a 3rd string back? We need Jennings back ASAP. That's as clear as day.

So basically we are arguing who sucks less.

Great.
honestly the O-line could make either of them look bad
Great White Ghost : 10/21/2014 10:19 am : link
, or good, depending on how they block. I think both Hillis and Williams could get the job done were the OL up to snuff.Neither is good enough to carry a team if the line isn't blocking. Jennings was a cut above the both of them.
It's true williams has a higher ceiling, but as far as actual gameday performance right now, williams is no bargain over Hillis.Over the long term Williams will hold up better.I don't think you could get more than 4-6 games out of Hillis before he broke down.Yeah he's slow. He also always makes psoitive yardage, can block, can catch and knows his assignments, and is less likely to cough it up.Williams is younger Bigger and stronger and faster. He'll be good one day, that's if he ever develops the vision Hillis has.Right now as it stands he's no upgrade to Hillis in my view.I rather kinda like them both.Hillis is OK for a 3rd string or 3rd down back.
