And our punt coverage was good...maybe we have more depth than I am whining about below :) But Weatherford kept putting the ball close to the sidelines or inside the ten.
Brown put the ball deep in the end zone
Cox didn't make it out to the 20 on one return from 4.5 to 5 yards deep in the end zone.
That is not a good stat at all! first off cowboys scored more points so therefore had more opportunities to return the ball
And the MOST obvious stat is that the cowboys did not return the ball on kickoffs they downed the ball (good kicking by brown)
Its not like it had anything to do with the ST if the cowboys took the ball out of the endzone say 4 times at 20 yards a pop, the stats look pretty similar then
Notice that we didn't use Parker or Demps on returns? Cox accelerates much faster on KR when he decides to bring the ball out. He did get stopped once inside the 20, but he looks much better than Demps. Beckham has much quicker feet than Parker on PR. Randle handled the PR when we needed security.
It's nice when Brown just booms the ball out f the end zone. And Weatherford lives up to the Giants tradition of great punters.
but not exactly game changing. (Weatherford might have been had our D been able to get some stops pinning them deep.)
Meanwhile, on a team with more impressive STs, the Rams got a TD on a very well executed "trick" return in which they all acted as if a punt went to the left corner, when the blocker of a gunner actually peeled off and caught it on the right side of the field (they'd noticed that when the punter rugby kicks it tends to go to that side). The Seattle coverage team all followed the Rams to the left and the real returner was alone with the punter (who actually knew where it went) on the right half of the field and it went for 6.
I believe the Rams also executed a fake punt with just a couple of minutes left to keep the ball and burn a lot of the remaining clock on Seattle when they only needed a FG.
THAT is STs that change momentum and have an impact. Did I mention the Colts have had 3 successful on-sides kicks this year already? I did? Good, because we play them this week.
1) Weatherford had perhaps his best game in 2 years. He not only boomed the kicks but pinned the returner to the sideline. He also had two nice punts downed inside the 10.
2) the punt coverage was also outstanding.
3) The kickoff returns were limited because of the kicks booming to the back of the end zone.
4) I agree Cox seems quicker to accelerate, but who the Fuck told him it was OK to run the ball out from 8 yards deep in the end zone?
5) I really like the addition of Beckham as a PR. He takes some chances that could probably be deemed ill advised, but his strong hands and quickness have had them working out thus far.
its because we ran kicks back from deep in the endzone
can make all of the excuses you want, but the Giants had 100 yard advantage in special teams.
Not really. When Michael Cox returns a kick from deep in the endzone to the 18 and Dallas takes a knee for a touchback, in reality Dallas did better by 2 yards. In your scenario, we outgained them by 18 yards.

Great kicking by weatherford ill give him that

I was surprised how fast our guys got down there and hit the returner. I think they got most of those 6 yards on 1 punt return.
They got 6 yards.
Eric - I don't think you read his post correctly.
Sure, we had 4 kickoffs - but all 4 balls were kicked out of the endzone so Dallas never got to return kickoffs
We had 3 kick returns that totaled 87 yards

the giants had the time advantage going into the second half
