Ahmad Bradshaw killing it for indy this year

MarshallOnMontana : 10/20/2014 11:05 am
They've been very careful to limit his workload this season and have been open about the fact that he is on a pitch count off neck surgery and with several foot surgeries in his past, but he is making the absolute most out of limited work

He is on pace for 1,253 yards from scrimmage with 16 touchdowns. Leads the colts in receiving tds with 6, and has been an ace in pass protection. 4.8 yards per carry on the ground, so clearly their best back. Im thrilled to see him land on his feet. Great giant, now a big part of a legitimate contender. Hope for his sake he stays healthy. He has been spotted around the colts facility in a walking boot a couple times this year, he will always be playing through something. Still runs just as angry though

This thread is not meant to call out the front office for moving on. Im just happy to see him have this second act

I doubt Bradshaw would have much success with the Giants. Not even he can make a go at it without some decent blocking.

Bradshaw could do more with less than any other back the Giants have had recently. It would be tough sledding for him but I have no doubt we'd be a better team with him.
Don't know if you guys saw his second TD yesterday
SB : 10/20/2014 11:20 am : link
... a real thing of beauty. Total body awareness and control, he twister himself as he was perpendicular to the ground to keep from touching the ground and then with his body facing up he reached back and broke the plane with the ball.

The guy is a total pro with tons of heart. Now, Richardson on the other hand...

i litter up the discussion

see how good he can be in the receiving game with a QB who is outstanding throwing to his RBs. eli is shockingly bad throwing to his backs, he looks incompetent on his touch, location, timing, footwork etc. he is the reason we can not run a screen pass
We

let go injured guys (Bradshaw) who get healthy, and bring in and resign injured guys (Beason) who get even more injured.
Always graded out at one of the best RBs in pass pro

In the NFL. Underrated because he's not a home run guy and injuries, but does everything else really well.

Have to love how they got rid of Ahmad

in part because of injuries and the guy they drafted in place of him had to retire a few years into his career due to...an injury. Typical.

Last season he got hurt in the first month during a big outing vs sf and had to miss the whole year because of neck surgery, only played 3 games

this year he has played every game so far, hope it keeps up for him. But he has dealt with foot related stuff (missed practices, required a walking boot). Really not much different than most of his time with the giants. He was never a guy who missed a ton of games, he was just often playing dinged through various issues. Something that endeared him very much to this staff. Tom coughlin was a massive bradshaw fan and he was very open about the fact that moving on was extremely tough. One of coughlins all time favorites
I think the key to his health is his weight...
bradshaw44 : 10/20/2014 11:27 am : link
He keeps that pressure of his ankle's. That and a decent OL. I'm always happy to see him do well, as you can tell by handle. He was my favorite Giants for his span here.

but I think at the time the Giants FO made the right call.

Sure hindsight being 20/20 he's been healthy this year, but the reality is you cant take a chance putting your eggs in that basket.
Always liked him and glad to see

he is having success. He's a very capable player, when healthy no doubt. Hard to kill the Giants for wanting to get younger, cheaper and healthier though.

Bradshaw staying healthy in Indy? Really? He's been hurt or out constantly there. I am thrilled he's succeeding and he's been outstanding this year, but he's been absolutely more of the same on the health front for him there.
Forgot about the injury.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/20/2014 11:44 am : link
Even more impressive that he was able to come back from his neck injury, especially with the amount of miles already on his body. We're now halfway through this season and his neck has held up well thus far. Wish Wilson was able to do the same.
One of the highlights of the season
bceagle05 : 10/20/2014 11:49 am : link
has been watching Bradshaw play. Always look forward to the Colts' national TV games for that reason alone. What a player.

As for Nicks, he has 17 catches for 147 yards on the season. He might be finished.
it's not even half the season yet
SHO'NUFF : 10/20/2014 11:49 am : link

my ass. 2 receiving TDs in his career under Gilbride.
Big fan of Ahmad! Definitely glad to see he is in a good spot.
Johnny5 : 10/20/2014 11:52 am : link
That said, if he stayed on the Giants, with our run blocking right now, he'd already be on injured reserve.
I thought the decision to jettison was a bit early
JonC : 10/20/2014 11:53 am : link
but it's difficult to complain about letting go a year too early rather than too late, especially when the medical team is concerned about a player's feet. Happy for Ahmad at the same time, he's definitely dropped some muscle lbs and looks like he got some of his burst and quicks back.

No doubt. He is always going to be a popular giant. He was productive as a 7th round pick, His timing was also awesome, rookie year sb championship and got out before things have gone south, so you only associate his giant career with that success.

sometimes it just irks me we have to be the choir boys all the time. will hill just returned to the field and looked outstanding for the ravens. i have to watch quintin demps and stevie brown

ahmad bradshaw is being ahmad bradshaw, and i have to watch us use a rookie RB without NFL speed to run outside. if he wanted to keep playing, did we really care so much about his ability to walk at 50? it's his decision isn't it?

was the idea to get rid of injured players or build a team that wins football games? we now have a bunch of undersized high character, God-fearing players you'd be happy to have ur daughter date. and we are treated to a team that gets its doors blown off every time it faces a quality opponent
I wonder if AB

His last 2 years here he could not walk during the week in between games. He was great for the Giants but had 2 bad wheels

He was question mark week to week

He did not look good last year

Wilson breaking his neck robbed the team of speed out of the backfield
Maybe the Giants should trade for the Colts trainer (grin)

the colts and broncos are the two best teams in the afc in my view
MarshallOnMontana : 10/20/2014 1:29 pm : link
Ive watched enough nfl football in my time to not look too far ahead, but its entirely plausible that the conference champ will be one of these two. And with the manning/colts storyline, that would be a wild playoff week should they meet

i find the colts very easy to root for because of many reasons, not the least of which is bradshaws presence. I would love to see him go get another one.

The Colts are really impressive.
BrettNYG10 : 10/20/2014 1:35 pm : link
There's been a perception (incorrect in my view) that they've beaten up on shitty teams. Their division does suck, but they're a very good football team.

They are in the sense that both could still be here, if not for decisions made by team management - and we'd be better on both sides of the ball if they were.

will hill's a thug who smokes pot. i dont care. do i like it? no, but i realize the landscape, there are a lot of "will hills" flying under the league's radar. i dont think hill is any worse than a high % of the NFLPA. i liked seeing him play football and it ended there. i dont need choir boys. bradshaw didn't practice. did i really give a sh#t when he was laying it on the line and making ridiculous plays to keep drives alive? get another good RB to share starting responsibilities with and get on with it.

we took the high road - fine. we got sick of bradshaw's injuries - fine. but it cost us on the field.

We already discussed the Hill situation on anther thread. We disagreed, but even if I conceeded the point on Hill, Bradshaws is no where near the same. The bottom line is he couldn't stay healthy when he played for us. They couldn't justify paying what he wanted for how his health was declining. That was purely a buisness decision, it had nothing to do with being "chior boys." Let's not forget he missed most all of last year with an injury as well. The way our line is playing he'd be injured again.
I haven't seen him play with the burst he has right now...
arcarsenal : 10/20/2014 2:25 pm : link
...since he was a young buck here. He looks great.

But before we go nuts in blaming the Giants staff for handling him wrong and a change of scenery being the answer, Nicks still looks slow, shitty and ineffective. (0 catches yesterday)

seasons that he did not have foot surgery. He felt great without the foot problems this year.

Some almost seem to be saying that if Bradshaw had stayed with the Giants he would have suffered the same fluke neck injury that he received in Indy that cost him the season. Very logical.

Bradshaw was a two ring back who was a team leader by example as well as a fan favorite. His last season with the Giants was a 1000 yard season with a 4.6 average. The year before does anyone remember the run he made in the playoff game against the Packers that allowed the Hail Mary?

I don't understand why so many here automatically back management in their personnel decisions. This would be a much better team with Bradshaw and Hill on the field. Ravens and Colts have no problems accepting our gifts to them.
How the fuck does somebody..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/21/2014 3:12 am : link
compare the Bradshaw and Hill situations based on character?

Bradshaw was let go because of persistant injuries that the team thought would limit his effectiveness. We also don't have the luxury to use him the way the Colts have.

But his situation is completely different from Hill's.

I thought even Thomas/area junc would easily realize this. Once again, I've been proven wrong.
Reese's Pieces
Rob in NYC : 10/21/2014 7:19 am : link
You are half right with Bradshaw - extend your thinking and maybe he doesn't suffer the flukey neck injury if still here, but by his own admission he was healthier this offseason than any in recent history.

Any chance that is the case because, you know, he didn't play last year? Can't have it both ways.

Both these decisions just boiled down to TRUST based on signficant track records. The team felt it could not TRUST Bradshaw to stay healthy, and coudn't TRUST Hill to stay out of trouble. In both instances they were well founded in their opinions. It had abolutely NOTHING to do with on field performance for either, and you're only benefitting from hindsight right now since Hill is finally back on the field (for now) and because Bradshaw found an excellent situation in Indy. It has nothing to with choir Boys vs criminals or anything else. Yes, there's a decent chance the team will regret one or both of those decisios, but I guess they forot to consult their Ouija board those "fateful" days.
