Ray Rice could be reinstated within a month

Danny Kanell : 10/20/2014 2:39 pm
Quote:
Rice has maintained he did not lie in his testimony to Commissioner Roger Goodell, and his legal team will make the case that even under the NFL's new domestic violence policy, and as a first-time offender, Rice should be suspended a maximum of six games, which has already passed. Furthermore, they will make the argument that the video tape of Rice's actions were available to the team and the league throughout the process of determining his discipline, and thus nothing changed whatsoever with the case from the time Rice was suspended two games, until eventually being suspended indefinitely, save for TMZ obtaining and posting the video.

Numerous legal experts I've spoken to believe Rice has an exceedingly strong case, and, considering it could be Week 10 or so before this hearing is resolved, it's hard for them to conceive that Rice isn't reinstated by Jones as part of her decision. If he is, would a team like the Colts, coached by former Ravens assistant Chuck Pagano who thinks highly of Rice, or New England, where Bill Belichick has very strong ties to Rice's college coach, Greg Schiano, take a chance on Rice if they need a running back down the stretch?

We just might find out.

Dare I say it? Local guy looking for redemption? Has to be better than Peyton Hillis?

Yeah, baby.

When you need a tire
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/20/2014 2:47 pm : link
why buy a tire with all the tread worn off?
I can't think of any team willing to go near this guy
SHO'NUFF : 10/20/2014 2:48 pm : link
including the raiders and jets...OK, maybe the jets...
I have to be honest
Danny Kanell : 10/20/2014 2:48 pm : link
What he did was obviously horrendous. We all know that. But by many accounts, he is a better guy than what that video showed and people who have done much worse have gotten 2nd chances.

He'd bring a lot of talent and likely a relatively cheap price. And we all know Reese does well on "prove it" deals.

I'm sure i'll get shit for this, but i'd seriously expore it if I were Reese.
I wouldn't have a problem going after him because of the incident
jeff57 : 10/20/2014 2:49 pm : link
I just don't know how much he has left in the tank.
I don't think anyone will touch him this season,
Section331 : 10/20/2014 2:51 pm : link
he's still too hot. Some team will go after him in the offseason, though.
If the Giants playoff hopes
pjcas18 : 10/20/2014 2:53 pm : link
are alive I'd sign him and I'd be ok if the Giants signed him.

think of it as karmic payback for doing the right thing and releasing Will Hill, it's doing the right thing for the other players former team to allow him some civic redemption.
ditto ligmen
UConn4523 : 10/20/2014 2:55 pm : link
won't watch if we sign him, which I won't have to worry about.

That and in a month we will likely be out of the playoff picture and we'd still need time for him to get into gameshape. Just don't see how its even possible for this team.

A contender like New England would make sense, not a team that will struggle to get 6 or 7 wins.
Even if the NFLPA gets him reinstated,
Ben in Tampa : 10/20/2014 3:03 pm : link
the owners are going to collude to keep him out.

And I would argue, big of a piece of shit as Rice is, the union should easily be able to get that suspension overturned given the way Goodell bungled the process.

so I don't see how bringing in a guy with that kind of baggage is worth it. If we're talking AP, that's a different story, but seeing how the Giants operate, I really don't see it happening.

Hill was a habitual offender though. Rice just this one incident. That said Rice was not looking effective as a player any way.

too bad Hill was harming no one but himself. Although in certain states, it is legal. Whatever NFL. Thanks for suspending our 2nd best secondary player.

As my intense passion about sports dwindles as the years go by, not supporting the hiring of a piece of shit is really easy. I'd lose a huge amount of respect for this franchise.

Winning isn't everything, especially when the Giants winning does nothing for my personal benefit outside of saying my team won.

Did I ask about your dwindling passions. I hear Viagra may help. It's also to grow and evolve and realize what you posted.

I also think one incident doesn't make a person a piece of shit forever

It is humorous that people want Will Hill back when he had been a pile shit for years besides the pot smoking.

And I'm not lobbying for Rice to be signed.
Can he play on the O-Line?
nicky43 : 10/20/2014 4:22 pm : link
We need all the help there we can get. It sucks that Reece screwed it up so bad we are STILL 2 full drafts away from the upgrades it needs and the way Reece drafts more realistically it would be 3 full drafts away.

Well I didn't want Will Hill back either
UConn4523 : 10/20/2014 4:23 pm : link
so work on getting your facts straight.

And my opinion is just that. I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Many of my friends are totally cool with rooting for the dog killer or however many rapists roam the league as long as their team wins. I think thats shitty, they don't.

But Ray Rice is in fact a piece of shit for KOing his wife. Maybe he cleans up and never does it again, but that again has nothing to do with me. I won't support him and I'd be really disgusted if we ever did hire him.

Him getting a 2nd chance is between him and his potential employers, not me or anyone else on BBI.
I think Ray Rice did a horrible thing
PaulBlakeTSU : 10/20/2014 4:42 pm : link
but I don't think he's a piece of shit. This was literally the only questionable thing that has ever come up with him. He had a sterling reputation in college and in the pros for how he comported himself, and how he represented his school/team in the community. He was a great ambassador for the sport. He isn't a repeat offender, or someone who is always getting himself into trouble. His act was unforgivable, but I don't view him the way I view other pieces of shit in sports, some of whom have played for the Giants and other teams I've loved.
Pre Jesse Jackson, you can't touch him.
NoPeanutz : 10/20/2014 4:45 pm : link
After you get the Reverend involved, I'm willing to bet there's some redemption in him (and Goodell) yet.
I haven't done exaustive reaserch on him and his characher
Blue Baller : 10/20/2014 4:50 pm : link
outside of this incident.

But I'm inclined to agree with Paul Blake's stance here

Jennings will be back by the time Rice is reinstated, so no.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/20/2014 4:51 pm : link
Hell, Jennings better be back the week after the bye.
I also thought AP was the role model RB
UConn4523 : 10/20/2014 4:54 pm : link
in the NFL. Boy was I wrong.

More heinous than Rice, but it means that even the most liked guys can be absolute pieces of shit.

In any case, we aren't hiring that baggage considering said baggage looked awful so far this season (and that was before being away from football for 2 months or so).
Yeah he's not coming here anyway so its moot.

I'm not a jet fan , I would stick to my word. If I did that my job would cut ties with me and I would have a hard time finding work again. I'm disgusted by it, I admit he has handled it better then anyone else now involved since it happened but those other people didn't actually do the crime. I always liked the Steelers a little and that all went away when the rapist got to stick around. If Ray Rice was a practice squad guy everyone would throw him out and not give him another chance but he's a superstar and worth money to a lot of people so all should be forgiven since we are now talking about the almighty dollar.

jpennyva : 10/20/2014 8:30 pm : link
they certainly wouldn't sign Rice. If I'm wrong about the rationale regarding the lack of cheerleaders (I heard that reason long ago), then perhaps anything is possible. Rice will be picked up by someone, but I doubt it would be the Giants.

Also this. He'd be depth/a backup. not something the giants would do, and IMO not something they should do either.

Also, I find it hard to believe he'd be able to contribute a whole lot this season in the final month or so not knowing the playbook. He doesn't have much left to offer - a year or two maybe, and can he be better than last year? Just don't see the reward being enough for most teams.

The Jints would never
Rocky Thompson : 10/20/2014 10:17 pm : link

Bring in Rice but if they did, he wouldn't be depth, he'd start over Jennings.

The Pats make the most sense. Boston is the most racial/non sensitive market in the country. They live and die on what Belichick says and does. They could get away with the bad publicity hit.

Rice would also help them immensely.

The thing about Rice is, the TMZ video is damaging but what people fail to realize is that Ray Rice was the face of the Ravens, the Cal Ripken of football for Baltimore. He was hanging with the elite politicians, had more charities than anyone else, he was a pillar in the community.

Belichick could make that work, if he could sell Kraft on it. Ray Rice would be a very nice addition to Tom Terrific's anonymous arsenal...
The Patriots
pjcas18 : 10/20/2014 10:32 pm : link
cut Christian Peter a week after the draft because of his abuses of women (which were worse than Rice's), but Myra Kraft was very vocal about not wanting that kind of player on their team and there was a ton of PR backlash after the draft and his latest arrest (assault of a woman in a bar or something like that) came out.

So, since Myra Kraft is no longer living, I guess there's a shot, but think it's a longshot he signs with the Patriots.

Rocky Thompson : 10/20/2014 10:38 pm : link

It's a long shot he signs anywhere.

I know what he did is reprehensible but I hate to see TMZ ( which represents all that is wrong with today's society) win.

I'd like to see him get a chance to redeem himself, there's been far worse scumbags allowed to play because twitter didn't exist...
Agree with that Rocky
pjcas18 : 10/20/2014 10:41 pm : link
I think he'll get another chance with someone, just not sure if it will be this year.

and the Patriots are an obvious potential landing spot if it does happen this year, with the Ridley injury
What he did was disgraceful but I would sign him if he could help
Essex : 10/20/2014 10:58 pm : link
He deserves the right to make a living after being punished, and plenty of NFL players have done serious crimes that included death and still play. I have rooted for plenty of bad apples before and will again. That is sports.
LT had sex with a minor and I bet half the board would run to get a picture taken with him.
Hey
Rocky Thompson : 10/20/2014 11:17 pm : link

It's nice when you have a stand up guy as a star. LT was the best ever but I wouldn't let him pick up my kid from school, ya know.

We're watching a star QB who raped a college girl in a bar bathroom with hired security keeping people out. He got married as quick as possible and it all goes away. He's still a scumbag that deserves his ass kicked but I'm watching. It's football , I don't give a shit about your personal life, what can you do on the field.

Most of the people that had Ray Rice banned aren't football fans, they watch the stupid assed pre game music and then go in the other room to watch taped versions of Castle or Rizzoli and Isles. They shouldn't have any say in it but the NFL in all it's greed has opened it up thinking they can maximize their audience. I'm sure Goodell is happy he signed off on that.
