join the long list of FA signings who end up injured, drawing pay, most of their tenure here. Thats why you have to connect in the draft. These discards who were not resigned by their original team usually do not work out. Reese has been great at identifying them and signing them. But does not do well in the draft. What does that tell you ?

Tells me two things:

1. Some people apparently don't realize Reese drafted those guys who won us two Super Bowls.

2. Some people are so in love with their stupidity that they copy and paste it from one thread to another.
A "run" ...
Mike in Raleigh : 10/20/2014 8:43 pm : link
could mean they win 4 or 5 games in a row ... and then ... only end up 7-9 or 8-8 (AGAIN!). ;)
The one GLARING thing ...
Mike in Raleigh : 10/20/2014 8:47 pm : link
about this team ... and it is consistent ... game in ... game out .... Fewell's D puts teams in 3rd and 8 or worse (a lot of 3rd and longs or very longs) ... but then it gives up those 3rd and long/very long situations with seemingly peculiar regularity - IMO.
-
puts opposing teams in 3rd and long situations a lot ... but then lets them convert for FIRST DOWNS ... a lot !!!! VERY ANNOYING !!!!

through the press. You want to know in tough times that your leader hasn't lost his faith and composure. Certain morons just lay in the weeds waiting to tell us how they don't want to listen to him anymore and they take the time to make that point over and over and over. You know what? Don't read or listen to TC, but stop telling the rest of us how tired you are of reading and listening to him
It's amazing how dumb

odds are you will never experience another Giants super bowl win in your lifetime let alone TWO super bowl wins.

BE careful about running this guy out of town. Sure the team has struggled a bit the last 2 years or so...but things can turn around. Why people are so quick to run this guy out and rebuild with a new regime just doesn't make sense to me. If Coughlin had clearly lost this team, clearly lost the locker room and clearly struggled with adapting to the NFL, i'd say OK it's time to move on. But none of those things have clearly occurred here.

2 years of shaky play. TWO. And really we should probably throw out the 2012 season and give the entire ORG a pass. 9-7 after a super bowl title isn't exactly awful. So we have 2013 which sucked and now we sit at 3-4 here in 2014. Lets say we finish 8-8...are you really sure that Coughlin is the problem here? It's hard to maintain excellence for an extended period of time in today's NFL. The Pats are the exception. How many other teams have won for 10 straight seasons? NONE. And the Pats haven't won a super bowl since 2004!

I just don't get it. It's one thing to wrestle with Coughlin's future here..they have struggled a bit so I don't think it's insane or stupid to question where things are headed but so many, shit, probably EVERY fan I talk to can't wait to run this guy outta here if they miss the playoffs this season. Why? Why not stay the course and rebuild with this regime? They rebuilt before and built a winning program. Then won it all. Then kind of got stale in 2009 and rebuilt again and won it all again in 2011. The proof is in the pudding. The guy wins when things are in place.

Is it asking that much to give this franchise a little bit of some breathing room and allow for a 2-3 year rebuild? A period that hasn't even seen the team truly STINK, mind you. Yea they were bad last year but they did go 7-9. They probably hang around this year. They aren't even terrible in this rebuild. I don't think it's crazy at all to give this franchise a little bit of a pass and allow for some leeway here. Teams are gonna struggle after a run of excellence. That's life. The Giants are better than last year and they are better than late 2012. They could be on the way up and they could win again with this regime. But no, go ahead and throw it all away for the new guy. The new guy could be worse. Much worse.

And one last thing, we need to stop with this no playoffs 4-5 years talk. They WON A fucking super bowl 2.5 years ago and went 10-6 the year prior. That 2009 team is so far removed from this current team that it's not worth even mentioning anymore. So why do people insist on bringing up the 2009 failure as some kind of indictment on Coughlin? Didn't Coughlin validate himself a bit in 2010 and even more so in 2011?

To me it's no playoffs two straight seasons. That's fair because it's true. The 2013 failure is still linked with this roster and franchise. 2009 is done.

If you're gonna say 4-5--then why not say playoffs in 5 of the last 9 seasons? Because that doesn't fit with the commentary I guess...

IF this team fights and shows progress the Giants better make damn sure they aren't firing a winning coach because of a bad stretch that could be behind us by season's end...and if they do, they better hire a winner.

The Steerlers had a great run in the mid 90s and then hit a rough patch with Cowher. Did they fire the coach? Nope...they rode it out and were rewarded with a super bowl title in the mid 2000s--many years after their first good patch of years.

Coughlin isn't the problem. It's a talent issue. The talent base is better than last year. Patience.
and my take
djm : 10/21/2014 11:27 am : link
is that Coughlin bought himself two more years when he agreed and supposedly pushed for the McAdoo hire.

Why would the Giants bring in some hot shot OC and then fire the head coach one year later if they only win 7-8 games? Then what? They fire McAdoo too? The guy they just moved heaven and earth to hire 12 months earlier? Do they promote McAdoo to HC and fire Coughlin? So they are gonna turn this franchise over to some OC who probably couldn't even rescue the offense from another average season?

It doesn't jive with me. I think Coughlin is here for at least one more season after this one even if they miss the playoffs. They will go McAdoo Coughlin for one more go at it in 2015. THAT will be the win or else season.
jcn56 and djm nailed it
Giants11 : 10/21/2014 11:41 am : link
people here do feel the need to paste the same stupidity thread after thread whether it makes sense or not. It really hit me Sunday watching a bit of the Redskins game of all things. They flash to the crowd and there's a woman decked in all red with pom poms, then a guy all dressed up in some crazy Redskins garb.I think to myself thats what being a football fan is all about. When did enjoyment of being a Giants fan become only about winning Super Bowls? Surely not when I was a kid in the late 70's! I just looked forward to every Sunday no matter what. These Redskins fans haven't experienced winning in decades. Saw it during the Rams game too. Sure I got pissed later on when we lost to Dallas. However I think around here there are a lot of spoiled fans who think the only success of an NFL season is winning a championship. Geez how long are we going to hear about Reese's drafts? The same people who parrot that garbage probably don't realize that the guy was HEAD OF SCOUTING when we drafted virtually the whole team that won 2 Super Bowls. 3 short years later people want to run him out. Man get a grip.
You're high if you think Tom is getting fired this year
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/21/2014 11:41 am : link
Capitulating on Gilbride and choosing to follow the company line on reforming the offense bought him more years.

Most of the core players on BOTH those Superbowl team were draftpicks or FA signings by Accorsi.
we may not start that run until November 30th.
Dinger : 10/21/2014 1:20 pm : link
If the defense can't hold a lead and the offense cant hold onto the ball, which has been the theme for the last year and almost a half then the next four games could be brutal. Colts on Monday night -we dont do well against good teams on national tv.
@ Seattle - best 3 and 3 team in the league and they match up REALLY well against us.
49ers - another running QB and a tough defense.
Cowboys on Sunday night....well maybe our 'run' could start a week early IF we learn something from this game, get a few injuries back and change the two things I noted at the top. Otherwise its looking like a 7-9 record and maybe some changes at the top again.
SPOILED BY SUCCESS...

..the Giants are the second most popular franchise in football right now.

MANY bandwagoners here, too young to remember the 60's and 70's, or the Handley years, or the false-hope Reeves tenure, or yeah, even the pogo-stick up's and down's of Jim Fassel's teams.

Before last season, Coughlin delivered nothing but winners - not always ugly, but 9 and 10 win seasons were the norm. Throw in 2 Superbowls and one particularly nasty team in 2008 - and yeah, we now have a spoiled fanbase who wanted to trade Eli and fire Couglin AFTER OPENING DAY.

So - "We're going to make a run". I'M ALL IN. Cause I'm smart enough to realize that when I'm old and grey, I'll look back on my life, and I won't be looking at the Parcells era as the greatest in Giants history. I'm still living it, and I'll ride with Coughlin and Eli until the day they respectively leave East Rutherford.
