Honestly, Eli is playing as well as he can...........

sxdxca : 10/21/2014 1:27 am
The last 5 weeks he's been almost perfect, and still the team is 3-4. That's telling me the team around him needs to be strengthened. If he wasn't playing as well as he has we'd be even worse.

Also Reuben Randle has been a pleasant surprise, definitely not a bust. And the last game he showed me he's a pretty solid receiver.

The team in my opinion isn't that far away. It needs another pro bowl DE on the other side of JPP, so we can bring pressure with our front 4. Kiwi is not the answer.

Also another pro bowl player on the offensive line should greatly strengthen the team. Hopefully we can nail a couple of great players in next years draft.
Its the lines

A turnstyle o-line and minimal pressure by d-line are the problems.

That said, the schedule going forward after bye is not very scary. A .500 year is likely the best case, IMO. This team does not have the horses for more than that.
Lately Eli under pressure looks like the last kid picked

in Gym class for dodge ball. I prefer to think of the Eli that was so tough under pressure in NFC title game against 49ers. You can't do that week after week and expect to survive the season. The Giants should have built that O-line before they worried about who was going to catch the ball.

Like a giants power run team...let romo
throw only on 3rd down...keeps him from
getting hurt for 1 and not making mistakes. ..
IMO pope helped them block...protect qb...
Te coaching ..ect
The OL sucks and the DL is mediocre. Hard to win that way.

In the end, the games are still won in the trenches.
on this team
newmike2 : 10/21/2014 8:40 am : link
Eli is not the problem. The issues with the team are more longer term. Difficult decisions are going to have to be made in the offseason and the team will need to decide if it's worth it to keep him and the salary he will command over rebuilding because this team and franchise isn't going anywhere as currently constructed.
I just hope ownership decides to go in the direction of building a champion again instead of throwing shit against the wall and hoping enough sticks to construct a team.
Eli's definitely not the problem
islander1 : 10/21/2014 10:32 am : link
very few mobile quarterbacks will perform with the type of OL he played behind against Philly. He was fine this week. He was atrocious in the season opener - that's it.
no, Eli isn't playing as well as he can
SHO'NUFF : 10/21/2014 11:26 am : link
because the coaches are too stubborn and would rather run for no gain than unleash the Eli!

Bingo. Exactly right. Giants won two SB's because our OL was solid and we could rush the passer without blitzes. Now Giants are weak on both lines.

Giants are two solid OL's away from competing with the big boys.
Eli is good but there are more then a few other QB's

What, this? He took a career-shortening beating in that game. Looked like Rocky after the fight with Drago.
Eli has been the saving grace of this offense
PaulBlakeTSU : 10/21/2014 11:45 am : link
The offensive line has been poor, with the top FA signing on the line out since before the first game of the season. He has been without his top RB for a month. He lost is second best and HR-hitting RB for his career before the season started. He lost his best WR for the season last week. His next best WR, the outside receiver, (Randle) is among the worst YAC receivers in the league. His rookie, playmaking WR has been out due to injury for everything until the last three weeks. And his tight end (who he has made into a revelation) is still a raw project.

On top of that, his defense isn't generating pressure on other teams to keep their scores low and his special teams are a net negative on the scoreboard.

Eli has been great. He has turned chicken shit into chicken salad. But at the end of the day, it's still just chicken salad.

This has to be the dumbest thing I've read on this site this week and that's saying a lot..
I don't think the DL is mediocre.
Matt M. : 10/21/2014 12:34 pm : link
I think it gets mediocre results because of the defensive scheme and gameplan. If this D could step up and get a coupe of reasonable stops, this team is probably sitting at 5-2 instead of 3-4.
OL AND DL
NYG007 : 10/21/2014 1:37 pm : link
Are NOT GOOD. Also, the Staff clealry doesnt trust Eli or they wouldnt keep pounding dumb basic runs for 1 yard or a loss.

We simply waste plays - 80% first down runs vs Dallas, the opening series was embarrassing for a professional team.

Run the damn pistol or Shogun offense and do your dumb draws, play action or pass. Its that simple for how bad our line is - but noooooooooo, were Tommy round peg into a square hole Coughlins team
what i didnt understand was
blakjedi : 10/21/2014 1:59 pm : link
we were actually getting good first down runs from williams.

i remember a series where he gained five and six yards on first down. how can you be 2nd and 4 and 2 nd and 5 and not make the first down? Penalities.

Reuben Randle is my least favorite Giant right now. I feel like every time we see him on camera its an f up.
The lines are brutal and as also stated earlier that is where the

game is won or lost. Eli is the best QB we have had in my life time. Sorry Phil Simms fans. I don't really remember Fran Tarkenton in a Giants uniform but no matter, Eli will wind up as top two or three Giant QBs all time (maybe Connerly or Tittle above him). If you look at the list of recievers he's had since he's been here he makes THEM better. Steve Smith, Kevin Boss, Plaxico, martelus Bennett, Cruz, Nicks, Manningham, Jake Ballard, etc. they all had better careers because of Eli. for the last two years his OL has gotten worse and worse. He needs them to be consistently good both in pass protection and in run blocking. If he can get a decent run gme going he's lights out.
not sure when TC got so obsessed with the run
SHO'NUFF : 10/21/2014 2:22 pm : link
wasn't Gilbride's 'east coast' offense about using the long pass to set up the run. there was even an article about it.

Priority number 1 in rebuilding is having a franchise QB. Ditching Eli is like telling me "hey your favorite team is going to probably suck the next 3 years"

Probably all those years of having Tiki, Bradshaw, Jacobs, and Ward...

Look how much Romo "got better" after the Cowboys used 3 of their last 4 first round picks on the OL.

Nothing against Beckham but it was a mistake for the Giants to pass on Zack Martin. Eli deserves a good line.

Not sure how anyone could critique Eli this season. He's far & away the best player on offense.
