Bromley?

Tony in Tampa : 10/21/2014 12:40 pm
I searched for threads mentioning this guy and did a Google search and found nothing on both. I presume he has been inactive most weeks. Have there been any reports/tweets from the beat writers on how he's doing in practice. Is he injured? If he's healthy I presume if C Jenkins is hurt Bromley will get to play.

I ask because there's a lot of discussion about picks our GM could have made and a head scrathing 3rd rd pick like this guy hopefully is doing something to justify his selection over the other productive players not chosen.
He's
AcidTest : 10/21/2014 12:46 pm : link
been inactive because until this week all the DL were healthy. It's a bit premature, but it looks like Jenkins won't be able to play after the bye. That puts Bromley on the game day roster by default. But how many defensive snaps he gets is another question.
From what I've read
Mendenhall : 10/21/2014 12:48 pm : link
the guy can't play.
As has been exhaustively documented here,
Enoch : 10/21/2014 12:49 pm : link
backup DTs aren't very useful on Special Teams. You activate the number you need for your rotation, and the other gameday active spots go to guys who cover punts, etc.

Bromley is being treated just as Joseph and Cofield were in their rookie year. It doesn't say much of anything about him as a prospect, going forward.
Selected one pick ahead of Tre Mason.

Terrible.

teams don't activate five DTs on game day.

Bromley was drafted to eventually replace Jenkins and/or Patterson.

But Jenks and Patterson are run stoppers. ..
Bromley can get to qb and stop run..
3rd rounds needs to play
Jenkins
Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/21/2014 1:41 pm : link
is not a run stopper. He's the best pass-rushing DT we have.

He will play... When he's ready. See:

Hankins, Jonathan
Joseph, Linval

etc
Cullen Jenkins is not just a run stopper.
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/21/2014 1:42 pm : link
He's got 43.5 sacks and had 5 last year.

Incredible insight, thanks!
Can't wait for Fewel to drop him back into coverage.

please tell me what we are getting from Kuhn that we can't get from Bromley. The next play Kuhn makes will be his first.

Blown off his position?
Understood that
Tony in Tampa : 10/21/2014 2:33 pm : link
the nature of a DL position means you can't just activate him on game day. But has there been any news on this guy. Last year there seemed to be some practice buzz on Moore from the press even though he wasn't playing.

I had to check to make sure Bromley was still on the roster
I don't know what is so hard to understand...
NYGmen58 : 10/21/2014 3:05 pm : link
He is a rookie and they aren't going to activate 5 DTs so when the 4 ahead of him are healthy, he does not dress.

In week 1 they activated only 3 DTs and in week 2 he was active and played a decent amount (made a nice tackle). Kuhn was healthy for week 3 and has played since so Bromley has not played since.

It has nothing to do with his ability or being injured or not being ready, etc. There are guys ahead of him and you can't dress everyone on gameday.

Hankins was inactive for 5 games last year and he was a 2nd round pick...
His calves are too lumpy.

Because our defense is playing so well, especially the DL

we can afford to sit a 3rd round draft pick. The luxury of being a "good" team, don't you know that.

Just because he's a 3rd round pick, he's not guaranteed playing time. What is this, high school?

He's not better than the 4 healthy guys they have right now. And that's not some admission of a failed draft pick or some such nonsense. You can't cry about lack of roster depth on one hand, then complain that there's no snaps for a rookie on the other. Pick one.
On MOST teams
OldPolack : 10/21/2014 9:01 pm : link
he would be a 3rd down pass rusher.
Year after year we go through this with DT's..
arcarsenal : 10/21/2014 9:13 pm : link
.. and year after year, people don't figure it out.
Everyone should understand
giantgiantfan : 10/21/2014 11:24 pm : link
this coaching staff sits rookie DTs. It happened with Linval, it happened with Hankins, and its happening with Bromley. It means nothing and he's not on the injury report, which means he's learning both the mental and physical side. All good until otherwise noted.
If he is not better the. Kuhn
hitdog42 : 10/22/2014 5:37 am : link
He should switch sports
I know the Giants way with dts.... But good lord we can't get a push up front can we pls not play a guy wgo has no hope of qb pressure. Kuhn is not a good player.... So don't play him over a dt that can generate a much needed dt pass rush.
I don't like Kuhn at all.
arcarsenal : 10/22/2014 8:46 am : link
But maybe they didn't think Bromley was ready. I don't know what the reasoning is.. but I'm going to trust it seeing as Joseph and Hankins both came along quite well this way.

In any event, with the Jenkins injury, Bromley will get a jersey against IND so he'll get a shot.

Had high hopes for this guy, third rounder, but there he is -- inactive. Fair to give him a year to be ready, but I had something like high hopes for Herman, too, and there he is in year two, on the PS. Bottom line: Bromley might become an NFL player, but might not, too. He doesn't seem to be viewed now as better than Kuhn -- and that's a very low grade.
Bromley and Eric Herman are two very differently tiered players

Again. Hankins was a 2nd rounder and so was Joseph. Both spent their time inactive on Sundays as rookies. I don't know why people continually fail to realize this. Joseph was inactive 10 of 16 weeks his rookie year. Hankins was inactive for 5. Bromley is going to get his chance now but him not dressing early in the year says nothing about him as a player.
how can you not like Kuhn, arc???

Nobody remembers anything. There are no lessons learned by watching the games or considering cause and effect.

In keeping with OL critique tradition ...

If your draft picks are constantly getting cut there's an issue. Troubling thing is they said on Finding Giants that he could be a Jay Alford type of role player. I don't want to look for role players in the 3rd. That's maybe 4th round down. Especially for a guy who a consensus Ufa.

Not if you believe his coach. If you listen to the radio broadcasts, you hear Banks over and over again calling out players for abandoning their assignments; never hear Kuhn's name in that context. Some folks just want to see more penetration and sacks from the interior DL. Kuhn hasn't flashed, but he hasn't sucked either.
